Deer leg in garden

SquishyBones · 28/06/2020 12:11

I get my dogs deer legs to chew on (complete with hooves and hair). As it’s been hot my dog has been off her food and I gave her a deer leg on Friday to chew on. She carried it around the garden then tried to bury it in DH veg pots so I told her off. She then carried it to the back of the garden and pushed it through a small hole in the fence landing in next doors garden. They were sitting out in the garden at the time and the woman screamed and ran inside and her husband just said “what the fuck is that?!” I went over to the fence and apologised and explained it was the dog. He asked me where I got it from and if I make a habit of killing and chopping up animals!! I explained they are bought from the pet shop. He apologised but added “it’s disgusting though, the wife is in a right state”. I asked him if we could have it back and he refused to touch it so I had to go around to their house and get it myself (they don’t live next door, they live down the street but their garden backs onto ours.

I retrieved it and told DH that dog was to have no more until she got her appetite back.

Well she’s only gone and done the same thing with a big fucking black fury cows ear that DH gave her. They’re going to go ballistic when they see it.

AIBU to insist that DH goes for it this time?

Holy shit OP
YABVU for not fixing the hole after the first time.
I'd be furious if you were my neighbour and wouldn't have picked it up either, and now it's happened again.
I suggest you send DH round with a sincere apology and a bunch of flowers.

vanillandhoney · 28/06/2020 12:28

@Allmyarseandpeggymartin

Jesus Christ op can’t you give the pooch a dentastik like the rest of us Shock
Dentastix are full of additives and sugars and are actually not very good for dogs. Natural chews like raw bones, pig/cow/rabbit ears etc. are much healthier and better for them.
RoseDog · 28/06/2020 12:29

I raw feed my dog but draw the line at the treats. Dp got her a deer ear once, it was dried and still furry and she loved it but it freaked me out and constipated her...we stick to dentastix and gravy bones as treats now!

picklemewalnuts · 28/06/2020 12:29

I'm a raw feeder too. Though my dog is a bit high maintenance and wouldn't go for either of those!

You must be able to hook it back? Unless your dog has an extremely long nose.

comingintomyown · 28/06/2020 12:29

Amusing as this is you should have gone to retrieve it as soon as you realised - the ear that is - and not be pissing around on here asking us !

3cats · 28/06/2020 12:30

Why on earth not? The dog doesn’t care what it is just that it’s a tasty animal.

Well, obviously the dog isn't into it either if they keep shoving it through the fence

SquishyBones · 28/06/2020 12:30

I’m not finding it a joke at all, I’m annoyed too.

She normally eats the cows ears straight away so I’m surprised she’s done this. We have rabbit ears in the freezer so just hoping she hasn’t been poking these through too. DH will be fixing the fence as soon as he gets home.

GrinGrin Sorry but this has made me chuckle!

vanillandhoney · 28/06/2020 12:31

I love how people are advocating mass-made sugary treats over all-natural healthy ones for their dogs.

I don't see a problem with feeding them deer legs OP but maybe it's best to fix the fence before you let them have them again Grin

okiedokieme · 28/06/2020 12:32

No way is it appropriate to allow a dog to put such things in a neighbours garden. Very poor taste to find it funny. My vet told me raw food carries a lot of risk of bacteria, if you want it in your garden fine but not the neighbours. My dog will stick to food that is safer

SquishyBones · 28/06/2020 12:32

They’re not in! Of course I tried to go around as soon as I realised what she’d done as I was hoping to get it before they saw it. Chances are they will see it now so I think DH should go around this time.

😂 at the dog 'shoving it through the fence' to get rid of it

ginrocks · 28/06/2020 12:33

I don't have an issue with what you feed your dog, but I can see the neighbours point in asking you to come and collect it yourself, I really don't think they WBU to ask you to do this

RightOnTheEdge · 28/06/2020 12:34

I have never heard of treats like that for dogs and I would have freaked out as well if I'd found that or any other random bits of animal in my garden.
Your OP is funny though and it's given me a giggle.

Definitely your DH's turn to go round to the neighbours!

okiedokieme · 28/06/2020 12:34

Ps for "snacks" he has carrots and frozen cucumber. Dried pigs ears and paddywack occasionally but he's not bothered by dog treats really

Singlebutmarried · 28/06/2020 12:35

My two love the deer legs, rabbit skins and all sorts of wars (beef lips were a bit much as they stank). But again raw fed dogs, and the whole animal is being utilised.

Dogs happy. They’ve not managed to poke it over the fence (though one has nearly cleared the fence after chasing a pigeon)

Ukholidaysaregreat · 28/06/2020 12:35

😂😂😂😂 funniest thing I've read this morning. Send DH for ear asap and block up hole.

TheVanguardSix · 28/06/2020 12:35

Jesus Christ op can’t you give the pooch a dentastik like the rest of us.

Proper LOL! Grin Grin Grin And so bloody true! Dial it back OP. Your dogs are hyper. Walk them more! Don't throw them out back with a stack of deer legs, is my unasked for advice. Jesus.

purplecorkheart · 28/06/2020 12:35

Can you look through the hole and see it? Could you push a sweeping brush through and reach it.

kennyjenny · 28/06/2020 12:35

This is hilarious I've just read this out to my hubby.

My mum has always done a raw diet for the dogs and would often bring back smelly animal parts that she had got from the local pet shop. The dogs loved them. Maybe I'm used to it but it wouldn't bother me, I would prob find it funny.

Definitely send your hubby round this time.

Sparklesocks · 28/06/2020 12:35

As others have said I don’t mind what you feed your pets but I would also be a put out if an animal body part popped up in my garden! Definitely get that hole fixed ASAP.

CommunistLegoBloc · 28/06/2020 12:36

I don't give a shit what you feed your dog but I'd be pretty unhappy if I kept finding bits of animal carcass on my land, courtesy of it.

Singlebutmarried · 28/06/2020 12:36

@SquishyBones at least it wasn’t a bull’s pizzle.

Dellow · 28/06/2020 12:37
  1. Your neighbours sound very precious ‘wife in a right state’ Hmm have they never seen roadkill? If they eat meat it’s even more ridiculous.
  2. Fix the hole though Grin. Once is an accident, twice is too many really.
CluelessBaker · 28/06/2020 12:37

Jesus, I would be horrified too if that came through the garden. You need some wire netting or something along the back fence of your garden to stop the dog from doing that.
