Deer leg in garden

SquishyBones · 28/06/2020 12:11

I get my dogs deer legs to chew on (complete with hooves and hair). As it’s been hot my dog has been off her food and I gave her a deer leg on Friday to chew on. She carried it around the garden then tried to bury it in DH veg pots so I told her off. She then carried it to the back of the garden and pushed it through a small hole in the fence landing in next doors garden. They were sitting out in the garden at the time and the woman screamed and ran inside and her husband just said “what the fuck is that?!” I went over to the fence and apologised and explained it was the dog. He asked me where I got it from and if I make a habit of killing and chopping up animals!! I explained they are bought from the pet shop. He apologised but added “it’s disgusting though, the wife is in a right state”. I asked him if we could have it back and he refused to touch it so I had to go around to their house and get it myself (they don’t live next door, they live down the street but their garden backs onto ours.

I retrieved it and told DH that dog was to have no more until she got her appetite back.

Well she’s only gone and done the same thing with a big fucking black fury cows ear that DH gave her. They’re going to go ballistic when they see it.

AIBU to insist that DH goes for it this time?

I am sorry but that is horrific and disgusting! - I could not touch that! - poor deer !

You realise deer populations have to be managed? Might as well use the leftovers that humans don’t consume.

Isthisfinallyit · 28/06/2020 13:30

I don't cars what you feed your dogs but I do think that your belongings should stay in your garden.

donquixotedelamancha · 28/06/2020 13:31

@speakout

I wonder how many of the posters who think seeing bits of dead deer is disgusting and traumatising have bits of dead cows pigs and chickens in their fridges

But that is someon'es choice.

I eat meat but I don't throw leftover sausages or any other type of food into my neighbours garden.

OMG that's terrible. I missed the update where OP has been throwing meat into their garden. I thought it was about them massively overreacting to a dog treat.

That's terrible of OP, stop it.

butterpuffed · 28/06/2020 13:32

Your dog is dropping you huge hints that he'd rather have a 'full of shit' dentastik , that's why he's shoving them through the fence.

It's a bit like kids , everyone knows what they'd choose if offered a bar of chocolate or a bowl of salad.

Attach another cow's ear so they know what to look for.

That made me giggle!

donquixotedelamancha · 28/06/2020 13:34

I do think that your belongings should stay in your garden.

Sure, but the neighbourly thing to do is to throw the ball/frisbee/limb back over the fence.

zingally · 28/06/2020 13:34

To be fair, I'd also likely lose my nut if a disembodied deer leg randomly appeared in my garden.

You sure that's a dog you've got? Is his name Cujo?

RedRed9 · 28/06/2020 13:35

Lol at all the posters who are shocked that dogs eat other animals.

The rest of the meat gets processed into dog food. Why waste hooves, snouts, necks etc of an animal that has already been slaughtered? Surely chucking those bits in the bin is more disrespectful to the animal and bad for the environment.

You need to sort your fence out though @SquishyBones

SquishyBones · 28/06/2020 13:35

Ok neighbours are home. As I said they don’t live next to us but behind us so it’s impossible for me to know when they get home until I see them in their garden. I saw bloke in garden so rushed out to apologise and explain. He said he’d already seen it 😩 hair cow ear along with a duck foot and a carrot. He said he’d taken a photo so I assured him that DH would be fixing the fence today (ASAP!)

He's taken a photo. He's clearly pissed off that you didn't sort this out the first time.

purplecorkheart · 28/06/2020 13:38

I think you also need to reassure that that you will feed the dog indoors.

donquixotedelamancha · 28/06/2020 13:39

That seems a bit of a leap. You clearly haven't been to many modern art galleries lately.
callmeadoctor · 28/06/2020 13:40

Gross!

StoppinBy · 28/06/2020 13:40

@purplecorkheart you would feed your dog those things inside? How ridiculous, what is needed is for the fence to be fixed. The OP is allowed to feed her dog outside.

justanotherneighinparadise · 28/06/2020 13:40

Omg this made me laugh so much. Please buy the dog a bloody sheep’s head or something just so he can push it through the neighbours fence 🤣🤣

AppleJane · 28/06/2020 13:40

Why can't the hole be blocked now and then fixed properly later? You said it was a small hole, surely you could put a box or something in front if it?

sonjadog · 28/06/2020 13:42

What's he planning to do with the photo? Does he think the dog feeding is a cover story for more sinister activities..?

justanotherneighinparadise · 28/06/2020 13:42

What’s he going to do with the photo? Does he think your running an illegal abattoir or grave snatching at the dead of night? 🤭

VenusTiger · 28/06/2020 13:43

I'm confused as to how your dog can get it next door through a gap, but you can't get it back through the same gap or with a stick/net or something?

justanotherneighinparadise · 28/06/2020 13:43

@sonjadog snap lol

butterry · 28/06/2020 13:44

Just block up the hole in fence or refrain from offering these items until it’s done. I would pop a note in their door to apologise and let them know you are on the case and call you to retrieve it when they are in. Nothing wrong at all in feeding these animal bits, where else would these parts be used otherwise? Better than being wasted and nutritious for dogs even if unpleasant for humans to look at!

Wolfiefan · 28/06/2020 13:44

Taken a photo! Grin
I’m sorry OP but I think he’s massively overreacted. No your dog shouldn’t be shoving food through the fence but your DH is actually out now getting the stuff to fix the hole? You’ve apologised etc.
Chatting to a friend who raw feeds. She gives hers whole lamb carcasses. It could be worse for your neighbour!
Oh and training treats? I have a dehydrator. Best treats EVER!!!!

donquixotedelamancha · 28/06/2020 13:44

I assured him that DH would be fixing the fence today (ASAP!)

Do let us know when DP has filled your hole. Tell him to take his time- it's not good to rush these things. I think it's polite to offer to let your neighbour take photos.

1forAll74 · 28/06/2020 13:44

Shame that you have iffy neighbours, as your dog is the comedian here, and this made me laugh, your neighbours are stuffy, and have no sense of humour !!
