Just wondering how many people believe in the government after failure after failure? What an absolute shambles!! I genuinely had my heart set on doing the right thing!! I feel so let down by people and politics 😔

OP posts:

I agree that the government haven't been great, and at times far from it, outcomes could have been much better, however I think it's important to recognise that we are a very densely populated country, London is one of the most densely populated cities in Europe, our outcome would always be worse than many due to that.

@sashagabadon

As long as mental health services are so underfunded, we will never make any progress

PenelopePitstop49 · 27/06/2020 10:31

I think we need to hold the scientists to account who quoted R rates of 500............ when it was only ever 3 at its peak in this country. Measles has an R rate of 15 to show perspective.

We've damaged the economy for decades, locked an entire population down when it only needed to be the over 70s and people with serious existing health issues, and kids are going without education and people with serious health conditions going without treatment.

It feels like the country is being run by hypochondriacs, frankly. Not a Government.

True. I agree money should be spent here too to keep people in their homes. I was involved in a rough sleeper initiative in the 90's in earls court. It is not s straightforward issue and mental health plays a huge role.
I guess i think that if everyone of all political stripes praises the gov when it does good stuff , it will be more likely to do more good stuff. positive reinforcement like training a puppy.
If everyone just ignores the good stuff in the press then Gov could take the view why bother! Not saying they will or should.
I just believe in credit where credit is due.

WitsEnding · 27/06/2020 10:33

I thought this was going to be about the copious excrement around our 'takeaway pubs', I don't know why I clicked on it really

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 10:35

Hmm So you think Jeremy Corbyn would have done a better job? You know that the first thing he said was a protest that he would not join in with the rules? Yes I think everything would have been fine if he has been in charge! Confused

Do you mean the ferguson imperial model? I am hearing thar argument more and more now, that the lockdown was an over reaction and we shouldn't have lockdown at all. I don't agree with this but it is certainly an argument that should be heard. Maybe it will win in the end. Who knows!

Shows what a difficult decision lock down was. Two sides to every argument.

cardibach · 27/06/2020 10:42

People saying we didn’t know much about it at the start - well, no. But neither did anyone else, we had advance notice as we saw what was happening in Europe and those countries who were exposed earlier have still done better than us. I really don’t understand how anyone can think they’ve even done a mediocre job. It’s appalling.
And for those going on and on and on about recession and damage, have a look at the figures. Any austerity will be a political choice - as the last lot was.

Corona crap?!
magicmallow · 27/06/2020 10:46

this govt are a lying, self serving shambles, they couldn't have done worse if they tried

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 10:46

Yes more here from that scientist <a class="break-all" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53193615?intlink_from_url=www.bbc.co.uk/news/coronavirus&link_location=live-reporting-story" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53193615?intlink_from_url=www.bbc.co.uk/news/coronavirus&link_location=live-reporting-story

Cam77 · 27/06/2020 10:48

Yet another Tory bashing thread. Yawn!

Better get used to them!

Cam77 · 27/06/2020 10:54

And if you’re not a Tory supporter, of course you’re not going to be satisfied with what the government has done. Ever.

The Irish Government has 87% domestic approval rating for its handling of the crisis. They received 29% of the vote, coming third, at the election a first months back.... the response in Ireland has been far from perfect - serious mistakes have been made. But it’s been largely coherent, sensibly conservative, informed by evidence, hasn’t chopped and changed, and clearly communicated to the public.

The reason the UK government has one of the worst approval ratings for their handling of the virus is simple. Nothing to do with party politics. It’s that it’s been complete shit. An embarrassment.

ssd · 27/06/2020 10:54

I agree op

BTW, has anyone else noticed the first post in any thread title critical of the government, is always ready to immediately leap to defend them?

It's almost as if there's a little person sat glued to mumsnet ready to leap on any criticism with a robust defence, although yawn another tory bashing thread" is scraping the barrel, even by their standard...

sashagabadon · 27/06/2020 10:54

@magicmallow

This is a silly thing to say. And very disrespectful to the hundreds of thousands of people that have been working in hospitals, care homes, prisons, supermarkets, food production, civil service throughout the pandemic And to the researchers, vaccine trials etc where the uk is doing brilliantly.
SonjaMorgan · 27/06/2020 10:57

I am one of the self employed with a new business who fell through the cracks. The handling of covid has changed my life significantly. So yes I am bitter and no I don't trust them to make the right decisions.

Hingeandbracket · 27/06/2020 10:58

@Drivingdownthe101

I knew this government were a shit show, that’s why I didn’t vote for them. So no, I don’t feel ‘let down’, it’s only what I expected.

Hahahahahahaha the Corbyn response AKA my shower of shit are less shit than your shower of shit.

Is that the best argument you have?

Really?

"yes we are crap but Corbyn would have been worse" - it's a bit sad, isn't it?

Roselilly36 · 27/06/2020 11:03

@ChangeThePassword spot on there, totally agree.

Cam77 · 27/06/2020 11:04

@heyblaby
London is very big. But it is not densely populated at all compared to many in Europe. Athens, Paris, Porto, Lisbon, Dublin, Munich and on and on... London doesn’t get in the top 50 in Europe.

Those looking for excuses will always have another to pick at but sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and sometimes shit and incompetent is just shit and incompetent.

AlexaShutUp · 27/06/2020 11:05

The government is crap and Boris is a self serving twat, but we knew that anyway. Nothing has changed.

Kazzyhoward · 27/06/2020 11:05

To the OP, please provide a list of all the other countries whose governments have dealt with Covid perfectly?

Scolopendra · 27/06/2020 11:06

I wish people would stop saying that they couldn't see this coming. They were supposed to have been pandemic planning for years. It should have been assumed to be deadly and treated as such from the get go, that is what a sensible Gov would have done. See New Zealand, Vietnam, etc. .

I did vote Tory, mainly to stop Corbyn getting in, but yes, if we had better opposition at the time, I would have voted Labour

I am sad and angry at the whole clusterfuck.

Newjez · 27/06/2020 11:09

Until people start voting for people because they are intelligent rather than charismatic, this will continue.

We should have voted Rory.

Everyone knows Boris is s bumbling idiot. What did you expect? Honestly?

Cam77 · 27/06/2020 11:11

Ignore what the rest of the world (never mind Europe) are doing and follow our own “higher” ideals! is a typical Tory response not a Labour one. The Tory Brexit shit show on top of this virus is going to sink the country.

Bill gates was warning in 2015. It really shouldn't have come as a shock.
