Just wondering how many people believe in the government after failure after failure? What an absolute shambles!! I genuinely had my heart set on doing the right thing!! I feel so let down by people and politics 😔

OP posts:
LilBlackLab · 27/06/2020 11:11

And how do you think the Labour Party,had they been voted in, would have handled the coronavirus then??

Newjez · 27/06/2020 11:13

@Livelovebehappy

And to blame Brexit and Tory supporters is ridiculous. Lay the blame where it belongs, at the door of an opposition party who failed its supporters by not fighting an election with decent policy proposals and chaotic manifesto. The government were on the ropes at that time and any decent opposition could have thrown them to the kerb. The electorate had very little choice, it was either Corbyn or Johnson. A no brainer really.
So, you are blaming this cluster fuck on labour? Really? Why not accept some responsibility?
Chaotic45 · 27/06/2020 11:13

I agree that huge mistakes have been made. But I acknowledge that this was a new and unprecedented situation.

You can't blame the government for everything. Our entire system is built around people paying taxes in order to provide essential services and benefit where needed. You can't expect the government to continually be able to protect people from the financial fall out of the economy grinding to a halt due to a virus that they did not create.

They have had to react to a situation whereby the economy stopped working. It's not in their remit to be able to shield us all from the negative impact of that- because other than an actual money pot there is no solution.

Cam77 · 27/06/2020 11:17

@Newjez
I’ll never get how anyone can look or listen to Boris Johnson and think “charismatic”. Obama was charismatic. I think a lot of people mix up “scruffy,compulsive bullshitter,braggart,posh” for charismatic. I cringe with embarrassment whenever I see a photo of scruffy dog Johnson to think he represents the UK and it only gets worse when he opens his mouth.

TooGood2BeTrue · 27/06/2020 11:18

Tories blaming Labour for their own utter incompetence AGAIN. Will it ever get old?! The Conservatives have been in power for 10 years; please own the shit you have created!

Cam77 · 27/06/2020 11:20

@Kazzyhoward

Perfect? Nobody expects perfect or anything like it.

But the UK has 66,000 excess deaths, the second worst record in the world.

Look at a list of 215 and then take away Belgium and Peru and a handful of tiny states with population in the thousands.

That leaves around 200 countries with better governance than the UK.

FizzFan · 27/06/2020 11:23

Wahahaha so it’s Labour’s fault now? Seriously?

icansmellburningleaves · 27/06/2020 11:24

Just think how chaotic it would have been if Jezza and his cronies had been in charge. It’s been a completely unprecedented time, never happened before in even our grandparents lifetimes. I think under the weird circumstances it’s gone well. There will always be people who have struggled or think it was handled wrong. It’s so easy to complain.

HeyBlaby · 27/06/2020 11:24

@Anditsgin111

I am not interested in defending a government I did not, nor would ever vote for, I am presenting a balanced view.

As for the Wikipedia link, yes of course London isn't there as one of the most densely populated cities, because it is data for EU countries! May I add that it also has no source for the data and says on the page itself 'This sections factual accuracy is disputed'. Wikipedia is not a good source.

HeyBlaby · 27/06/2020 11:25

No idea how I have managed to tag you @Anditsgin111 it was meant for @Cam77 Confused

Cam77 · 27/06/2020 11:26

“Just think how chaotic it would have been if Jezza and his cronies had been in charge. “

Oh look another one! BuT wHaT aBOut LabOUr?
You mean more chaotic than the second worst record in the entire world? Yeah. Sure. Ok.

FizzFan · 27/06/2020 11:27

And if you’re not a Tory supporter, of course you’re not going to be satisfied with what the government has done. Ever.

Equally I’m not an SNP supporter but I’ll hold my hands up and admit they’re doing a half decent job up here. Not perfect, definite fuck ups too, but overall Ok.

TheWhalrus · 27/06/2020 11:29

The Government's role first and foremost is to protect its citizens. 66,000 have died so far, more than in any other European country. You are not being unreasonable to feel that the government have let you down. They have clearly failed us.

Or, to put this another way, can someone please explain how this is not a failure?

I should add i'm not even a labour voter and i still think we've been let down.

Cam77 · 27/06/2020 11:30

@HeyBlaby
No, London is not there because London has a population density of juts 1500 per sq/km while, for example, Frankfurt, 44th on that list has a density of 3000.

Google is your friend!

Splodgetastic · 27/06/2020 11:33

It is beginning to become obvious to me that we are developing a significant corruption problem in this country again. There have been too many red flags in the past few months. It is really surprising that we are perceived as a low-corruption economy after all this. After my recent dealings with the authorities I am also quite shocked about what large companies can get away with compared to the average man in the street.

Cam77 · 27/06/2020 11:34

Sorry Tory apologists but I will never forget Boris Johnson at the beginning of March bragging about shaking hands with Covid patients as though those silly Asian and continental European nations were making a big fuss over nothing. The Tories started from there and with the “herd immunity” mindset and ended with the second worst record in the entire world. It’s on them. All of it.

Splodgetastic · 27/06/2020 11:34

A free market only works properly in the absence of corruption.

HeyBlaby · 27/06/2020 11:38

@Cam77 ok Wink

InOutofmymind · 27/06/2020 11:38

But I acknowledge that this was a new and unprecedented situation

No it wasn't the world has had Pandemics before and CV is a respiratory illness, not Bubonic plague.
UK planned for a pandemic in 2016 but did not take any notice of its findings, even now Johnson won't publish the Exercise Cygnus report.

We have a populist leader, the default is to be popular, not to take the tough decisions, add to that the constant lying from Johnson and you have a recipe for disaster.

However, what i will never forgive him for is the decision to empty the hospitals of the elderly into care homes, no testing, no quarantines, that was nothing short of murder.
New virus or not, in January and february it was very clear that CV affected the elderly the worst, and only done so the UK public would not see the scenes we watched in Italy and Spain as their health systems were overwhelmed, a PR stunt that killed at least 16000 people... worthy of Stalin.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 11:43

The WHO has recently been praising the UK to be fair. It is very easy to criticise when you are not in charge. Of course things have not been perfect but far better here than e.g. the USA. Get things in perspective

InOutofmymind · 27/06/2020 11:45

The World Health Organization praised the Prime Minister for finally upping the UK's response by calling for people to stop socialising

Damned by faint praise!

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 11:46

No it was the step by step approach to easing the lockdown they praised

InOutofmymind · 27/06/2020 11:49

UK has a death rate per capita almost twice that of the USA...... yet you think the UK has handled CV better than the Yanks... FFS.

InOutofmymind · 27/06/2020 11:51

Oh yes, the scenes in London, Liverpool and our seaside towns show an exemplary easing of lockdown.

The WHO also praised China.

Livelovebehappy · 27/06/2020 11:55

newjez nope. And I guess you deliberately mis interpreted my post? Of course the Covid situation and how it’s been dealt with has not been perfect, but obviously is not the fault of Labour, indirectly. But upthread someone said she blamed brexiteers and Tory supporters for voting in the government. That’s the point I was responding to.
