Hut tub dilemma

As did half the country we decided to get a hot tub during lockdown , its causing no end of problems with the neighours though

We have lived in the same new build home for a while , friends with the neighbours no problems whatsoever and generally get on well. Dont socialise together but always pleasant exchanges so no problems , we turn a blind eye to some antisocial behaviour on their part. mainly smoking weed in their garden that blows into ours because on the whole they are good people , no loud parties or noise from theirs ect

They seem however to have taken exception to our hot tub as they dont like what they call a loud humming sound that they can hear , we are at a loss what to do about this as we canny move the hottub anywhere else in the garden , we have a large decking for garden furniture /bbq and a home made bar that take up the other spaces in the garden , my husband has spent a considerable time putting electric cables in the garden so repositioning this would be out of the question, we are mindful not to put the jets on after 11pm (checked with local council and this is the time that noise wouldnt be acceptable after) we also spent a fair whack on a set up so we would not consider not using this
Any suggestions other than moving house ?
AiBU for wanting to enjoy my garden ?
Neighbour came.round fairly angry knocking on door

i’ve read her posts and she never called you a chav.

I've searched the thread and there are three posts where the word chavvy is used to describe the OP's purchases. You're being disingenuous if you claim she shouldn't feel insulted.

Sunshineandmoonlight · 27/06/2020 08:40

This thread lost me at “ range rover evoque”. I’ll never understand the purpose of that car.

@PrincessConsuelaVaginaHammock

My thoughts exactly, I thought they was a bit cheeky

Just turn it off at night 🤷‍♀️ It’ll save all that unnecessary wastage of electricity. Awful for the environment. Have to say I never knew people left them on all the time...another reason not to buy a sex pond...

GalesThisMorning · 27/06/2020 08:41

Did you ever see the Greyson Perry exhibit 'the vanity of small differences'? I think he also made a tv show about it. It was very eye opening as well as being artistically interesting. It showed how caught up in class signifiers the British are. That's also what we're seeing on this thread. It's ridiculous, pretty and mean.

nogreenfinger · 27/06/2020 08:42

Buying a hot tub is a chavy thing to do

Is there a list available?

Apple1029 · 27/06/2020 08:42

offer to go over and listen from their side? the only way both of you can agree.

The poster she referred to said her car was chavvy, not OP. If you buy a car and I say it’s ugly, am I calling you ugly? No, I’m not.
RandomLondoner · 27/06/2020 08:42

Four posts now, where a search for "chav" finds a derogatory comment.

GalesThisMorning · 27/06/2020 08:43

@nogreenfinger oops sorry I was being flippant using that word, didn't mean to bandy it about any more than it was! I understand it is offensive.

whiteroseredrose · 27/06/2020 08:43

@cuntycovid surely dull neighbours are the best - no noise and no bother.

Part and parcel of living in a town is that you have neighbours. And nobody is silent.

New buyers of the adjoining semi to us started major renovations a couple of weeks after lock down now that DH and I are both working from home. Drilling and hammering all day. And the builder's music and singing are dreadful. Nothing we can do about it though.

There are always the sounds of children playing in the gardens around us which is fine (apart from one screechy one). People mow lawns, our dog barks when he goes out first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Thank God the woman with wind chimes moved.

I'd hate the hum of your hot tub but it's your garden to enjoy largely as you wish.

If it does become a big issue with the neighbours then have a polite chat. We all have to put up with things that other people do. You don't like the smell of their weed either. Call it quits.

Fattyboom · 27/06/2020 08:44

Hot tubs are awful antisocial selfish things to live next to, they make constant noise and the people in them make constant noise too - even without the jets on after 11pm people will sit and chat loudly, often playing music when they do (so voices are louder than normal over the hun, the water and music)

You know we’re talking about a specific poster, right? Or did you miss that memo in your hurry to push yourself in and defend OP’s abusive posts?
Jason118 · 27/06/2020 08:44

I've used a hot tub on holiday. Strange things, decided on balance that having a bath indoors is better.

MsTSwift · 27/06/2020 08:45

We are quite posh 😁 and have a hot tub. It’s a hard standing one built into the garden you can’t hear it but yes can hear the bubbles but we read in ours or talk quietly and usually go in by 9ish. Love my hot tub! Use it most days

Esspee · 27/06/2020 08:46

Been reading this thread with amusement. I’m disappointed that nobody has referred to chalmydia soup yet. Happy to throw that into the mix.

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/06/2020 08:47

A neighbour of ours, three doors down, has one and we can here it. The immediate neighbours also hear the splashes and giggles that go with it as he entertains his many girlfriends at all hours of day and night.

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/06/2020 08:47

Sorry that should be hear it.

RandomLondoner · 27/06/2020 08:48

That argument is just wrong. I agree the word ugly implies nothing about the owner. The word chavvy absolutely does though.

There are some contexts where you could accuse a person you know well and like of having a chavvy attribute, and you'd both know you didn't think they were a chav, but that is exceptional. It doesn't apply to anonymous comments to a stranger on the internet.

Yes, that is the reason I, personally, won't be get in one.
BigSandyBalls2015 · 27/06/2020 08:48

Oh dear is this a wind up!

Thisbastardcomputer · 27/06/2020 08:48

Love it when the op asks a question, then starts arguing with everyone

glueandstick · 27/06/2020 08:49

One corner we have hot tub people. Next to them are barking dog people. Other side is loud as fuck family and another hot tub.

The constant hum from the hot tub with the dogs and bloody people noise is bringing me close to a breakdown. IT IS CONSTANT and you cannot escape it in any room.

HighOnStilts · 27/06/2020 08:49

Our neighbour has one and the noise really isn't that bad. Ffs people need to get a grip.

dontdisturbmenow · 27/06/2020 08:49

Why shouldn't we enjoy our garden
That same old 'me me me' statement.

The problem is the selfishness of people putting instruments in their garden that were really only intended for selective households with large gardens, ie. the well offs.

I can't imagine anything worse than a noisy hot tub just about under my bedroom window and having to listen to a couple conversation and giggles for an hour when I go to bed at 10pm and need the window open due to the heat.

Oh God, I can se my neighbours getting just one of them. In addition to their kids constant noise during the day, that would just too it!
