I'm mean, yes I want things back to normal BUT I am still concerned in case we get a spike again. I agree we all need to be careful BUT clearly all these people just thought F* it.
All we've put up with so far with lock down and it seems every one on the beach in question decided to piss it into the wind.

If I were the government I would think I couldn't trust people to use sense at all and put lockdown back in place until either a vaccination or until people realised that if they want lockdown relaxed then they need to prove they can be trusted to show a bit of caution.

Rant over.

Interesting how those being positive rarely up to speed on actual figures and data as though they can't actually be bothered to discover the truth on case it shows their positivity as somehow misplaced...

I'm up to speed @MonkeyToesOfDoom, I'm not stupid, I'm not ignorant.... but hey you carry on with your doom!

Go look at ONS data. And dance with joy. I'll slow clap you...

A little perspective is needed I think. And please don't take what I am about to say the wrong way, if it clearly doesn't apply to you or the people you love.

The majority of the people who died with Covid would have been expected to die of something soon anyway. So to talk about 40 whatever thousand families being "devastated" by unexpected loss is simply hyperbolic. I know for a fact that if my dad - who died with pneumonia but of Alzheimer's after a long and miserable last few years - had caught Covid in his care home, I would be sad and bereaved, but not devastated by unexpected loss.

Life has a 100% mortality rate.

It may well be the case that by the end of 12 months, deaths from flu and other infectious diseases will be down, simply because Covid got there first.

Again, don't take the above as applying to you if it clearly doesn't.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 28/06/2020 19:20

Do you have a break down of the figures? I see this said a lot on here but haven't seen data that supports this. I'd be really interested to have a look at it.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 28/06/2020 19:26

I tbink it is argued because most deaths were the elderly (care home disaster policy) and those with pre existing conditions but those pre existing conditions won't kill you on their own. I have mild asthma for example but I have never had a hospital admissions. So I am not convinced.

Awesome, I'll be sure to let those grieving families know..
"Dead from.covid... ah well, you'd have fucking pegged it soon anyway so who gives a shit?"

@MonkeyToesOfDoom oh my, you do realise that my link correspondents with the government figures?

Are you a close friend of @Hearhoovesthinkzebras ?

Doooooooooommmmmmmm

Redcherries · 28/06/2020 20:23

@HesterShaw1 are you shitting me? I’m shielded, 40 (just) with 2 teenagers, a husband and run a business. I’m not close to popping my clogs but Covid19 could well kill me, so could a chest infection. You would never know I was vulnerable, I’m not ill, I’m not old, I don’t have hospital appointments for the reason I’m shielded, I work in an active job, not disabled but I would be one of the statistics of underlying illness people assume are people close to dying anyway.

I see you're a bit dim.

Sorry I assumed you had a modicum of intelligence. I shan't bother you further with grown up words and complicated figures.

ONS excess deaths over average. There, That's all I'm saying.

Please do explain why you seem to believe the ONS figures are less reliable than the government reported figure and why they're much higher than the government figures.

Do so I words with few syllables as I'm a bit thick. Thanks.

Wilkiemini · 28/06/2020 21:36

I live in Dorset, please don’t come here you won’t be welcome because it’s pissing people off! The facilities are not open and people have left tons of rubbish and human shit on the beaches it’s disgusting :( locals are out from sunrise to midnight litter picking

I’m ashamed of the human race right now!

FFS RedCherries I specifically said if you don't think my post applied to you - which is clearly didn't - don't take offence from it.

I could not have been any clearer.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 29/06/2020 05:49

Putting that proviso in doesn't make it any less offensive.
Its like saying no offense than saying something offensive or no disrespect when saying something disrespectful.
Also I think you will find a lot of people are in the the pre existing conditions category so thats a lot of people who have to not take offense at your offensive post.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 29/06/2020 11:14

@HesterShaw1

You said that the majority of people who died were going to die soon anyway - how can you not think people will find that offensive?

Where is the data that backs up what you said?

PermanentCobOn · 29/06/2020 14:11

I live in Dorset, please don’t come here you won’t be welcome

Oh no, how will I cope Hmm

HesterShaw1 · 29/06/2020 15:16

Stop selectively paraphrasing me Hearhooves

If people want to take offence from a perfectly logical observation, that's their issue.

That is not what I said, and not what I meant.

Jourdain11 · 29/06/2020 16:01

I cannot help but feel that some people get enjoyment from taking offence.

I'm also not quite sure why people who are shielding feel that society has decided they should be sacrificed. It's quite obvious that this isn't the case.

I wonder (and sorry if this is slightly morbid) if deaths will be lower than usual in winter months because some people who might have died from seasonal illnesses then have (struggling to find a way to put this delicately and giving up) died earlier from Covid-19?

Genuinely, I don't think we'll be able to analyse or compare this data effectively for a while yet.
