To be delighted that Keir Starmer has already managed to get rid of the horror show that is Rebecca Long Bailey.

I wondered why he appointed her in the first place. Glad to see he has managed to ditch her pronto. Shame he can't do the same with Rayner.

He definitely needs to up the quality on the front bench. Angela Rayner’s main claim to fame is her baby mama routine. Labour has gone so far done the extreme left socialist path that mediocrity has become ingrained within the leadership. No matter how much people beat their chests about needing ‘everyday normal people’ running the show, no one wants the kind of leadership that couldn’t run a bath, let alone govt.

Alchemila · 25/06/2020 15:36

It is heartening to see him acting so decisively in respect of anti-semitism. Corbyn wouldn’t have done a damn thing about this.

Bloodybridget · 25/06/2020 15:39

Agreed, Alchemila.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/06/2020 15:52

I suspect he didn’t shed any tears at her sacking.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 25/06/2020 15:54

He asked her to step down according to the newspapers. Doesn't sound like he sacked her so not sure how decisive he was.

IntermittentParps · 25/06/2020 15:57

I don't mind Angela Rayner.
Long-Bailey has been at best a bit dim in retweeting this thing and not thinking how it might be perceived. I think he gave her the job at first as a sop to the left, so it didn't look like a purge; and because it made him look magnanimous to give his rival a job.

LellyMcKelly · 25/06/2020 16:01

Asking somebody to step down ‘is’ sacking them.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/06/2020 16:03

I agree

She can join Corbyn on the back benches along with others (hopefully Rayner shall follow soon)

Not surprised by Maxine Peake she supported Ken Livingstone Hmm

At least Labour is looking like a credible opposition party again

SerendipityJane · 25/06/2020 16:05

What did she do that was anti-semitic, out of interest ?

Janaih · 25/06/2020 16:05

I'm getting more impressed with Kier Starmer by the day.

vinoandbrie · 25/06/2020 16:06

Hurrah. Great news. Keir Starmer isn’t messing about - fair play to him.

lemonsandlimes123 · 25/06/2020 16:11

serendipityjane - the story is being carried by all the major news sites. I am sure you can find the details

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 25/06/2020 16:11

Mmm, the papers have now changef to say that KS sacked her. I wish they wouldn't edit their stories and make it look like I mis-read it. Grin

He has shown JC how it should be done.
@SerendipityJane BBC report here
She said: "The tactics used by the police in America, kneeling on George Floyd's neck, that was learnt from seminars with Israeli secret services."

Is that true or not ? Or are we at the stage where the truth in a statement is irrelevant ?

Obviously if it's not true, then - bad reporting aside - it could be a slur. But if it's true, surely it's true ?

lemonsandlimes123 · 25/06/2020 16:18

serendipityjane - the faux wide eyed questions are somewhat revealing. The allegations are refuted in the original article.

That’s the same thing.

serendipityjane - irrelevant link it's the content of the training that is being contested not the existence. Read the article if you can be bothered.

@SerendipityJane

That AmnestyUSA blogpost has been thoroughly debunked here:
mobile.twitter.com/JeremyDuns/status/1276106416462364673

And Peake’s statement, endorsed by Long-Bailey, is antisemitic because it blames Jews for a problem that is not their fault. It indulges in the millennia-old phenomenon of accusing Jews of having a hand in everything that goes wrong, and deliberately seeking to harm humanity.

Blaming Jews for American racism is no different to Europeans in the Middle Ages accusing Jews of creating plague outbreaks by poisoning wells, or blaming the local Jewish population whenever a Christian child went missing or was murdered.

Furthermore, it also lets American cops off the hook. American white supremacy existed for hundreds of years before the state of Israel was even created. American police have been murdering people of colour for far longer than Israel has existed as well.

If you see something bad happening in the world, and instantly see the ‘hand of Israel’ then you are an antisemite.

TooGood2BeTrue · 25/06/2020 16:32

Yes, good to see that Corbynite go!

LaurieMarlow · 25/06/2020 16:34

Yes, great news

donquixotedelamancha · 25/06/2020 16:34

Is that true or not? Or are we at the stage where the truth in a statement is irrelevant?

No, it isn't true but sharing an anti israeli slur wouldn't get RLB sacked on it's own. It was her reply to the Board of Deputies which did for her. From the Guardian:

Marie van der Zyl, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, praised the Labour leader for taking "swift action" over the row.

She said: "I would like to thank Keir Starmer for backing his words with actions on antisemitism. After Rebecca Long-Bailey shared a conspiracy theory, we and others gave her the opportunity to retract and apologise.

Alegedly RLB has also had warnings in the past from KS for some of her comments.

lydia7986 · 25/06/2020 16:35

Besides, all Western police forces collaborate on training and share ‘best practice.’

For obvious reasons, Israeli police have far more experience dealing with suicide bombers and conducting counterinsurgency operations than most of their western counterparts. That is largely what their ‘training’ of other countries’ police forces consists of.

If you seriously think that it was Israeli police who trained American soldiers how to kneel on people’s necks then you need to get a grip of yourself and hold American police accountable for their own actions.

American police were kneeling on people’s necks before Israel existed.

Clawdy · 25/06/2020 16:38

I'm surprised Maxine Peake talked about a theory with no proof, guess as an actress she feels she can say anything! But Rebecca LB should have had more sense.
