Am I the only one that doesn't like this weather?

This may possibly just be me but I actually can't stand this weather! I get anxiety every summer. The thought of being outside sweating, itching, burning and surrounded by wasps/flies is like my worst nightmare. My poor kids/hubby think I'm insane (they do go outside obv) but I am much happier being in doors with windows open and fresh air/sun coming in than being outside and so uncomfortable. I do burn easily and hate the feeling of suncream (especially when it drips off in white streaks, stains clothes etc...) please someone tell me they have the same experience, I feel particularly naff about it today and friends invited us for a bike ride and felt bit crappy turning them down as I cannot fathom how on earth that would be enjoyable but felt shitty turning them down with no real reason as to why! I often turn stuff like that down in this weather as I just do not enjoy it. Favourite time is around 6pm when it is cooling off so we often do stuff in the eve. Is it just me???

The highest ever temperature recorded was 93.9c in, you guessed it, Death Valley 1972.

Not according to the World Meteorological Organization, they say 56.7 °C, at Furnace Creek Ranch, Death Valley in July 1913, but that is disputed. The number you refer to was the ground temperature, & I can easily outdo that with a saucepan on the hob.

I hate the heat. Nothing nice about sweating and feeling uncomfortable for hours on end. I'm in London and it's unbearable for me at the moment. My friends all seem to love it, I'm very much the odd one out. I am overweight which I think plays a big part, I like to be covered up and can't wear shorts or dresses as I look a state! Roll on Autumn...

I hate hate hate it. The kids love the pool but we all burn easily so they wear uv suits and hats and cream/. We’re getting a big awning soon to help. I had malignant melanoma which is the scary spreading killer one 😭and am nearly clear after having a large chunk of my forearm removed 5.5 years ago. This is despite me being fair and always staying in shade and using cream so now I’m paranoid for us all. I can’t wear long sleeves in this heat to keep the sun off of it :/

Can’t stand it! Roll on autumn! Better still winter!
I catch the sun really easily and my line of work doesn’t make it easy either, I sweat as soon as I wake up and I miss my feather duvet!!!

I like the brightness, my MH is always better in the summer. I like the fact I can hang washing outside, I like that my children can play out more than they can in the winter.

I don't like it really hot (25c+), I'm fair with strawberry blonde hair and freckles and I only have to wink at the sun and I'm frazzled. I also hate the sweatiness of it all.

Oh and the pollen. That can do one!!!

I wish I could enjoy it. I don't know what's wrong with my skin but direct sunlight on my skin on days like this actually hurts after a few minutes so I have to lurk in the shade. I'm not fair, mixed race actually, so it doesn't make sense but yeah. I like slightly cloudy, breezy days at about 22c but blue skies and 29C not my thing at all.

Born in winter and hate summer. Hay fever. Hot and bothered kids. You’re def not alone!

While I like the heat, I do understand why some people don't. However, I like being able to hang my washing out, being able to not have to bundle up in thick clothes, the long, light evenings, the brighter days (I have poor eyesight and see much better when it is bright), going for walks in the lovely countryside we have where we live, seeing my garden come alive, the heavenly scent of the honeysuckle on a warm evening, and not feeling depressed because it is dull and gloomy with short days.

Ugh, the nights are the worst!

Normally I'd open every window and create a wind tunnel but DD is a climber and I don't trust her not to wake up in the night and do something stupid.

It’s too sticky hot. We couldn’t sleep last night and ds is not happy with the heat. We all have headaches today and I’m flagging.

DH is from the ME and although he really likes sunshine and nice weather he can’t sleep either.

PhoneLock · 24/06/2020 12:55

Luckily, both DH and I cope well with both ends of the heat spectrum. We still have a 13 tog duvet on the bed, have walked in Death Valley at 50°C and regularly visit Australia in the summer.

It's just over 30° here at the moment. Pleasantly warm, but not hot by any stretch of the imagination.

Hate this weather! Everyone else seems to wet their knickers with joy when the sun comes out but I actually dread it. The heat makes me lethargic and as I am several stone overweight it just makes me feel like a sticky fat mess. All my own fault in that sense obviously as if I were slimmer I would be more comfortable wearing strappy tops and shorts and things that would keep me cool. As well as that I feel like the good weather just brings out all the morons. Everywhere is busy and its suddenly acceptable to make horrendous amounts of noise in your garden whether is be children screaming or someone booming out shite FM on the radio for all to hear. I much prefer cold, rainy days where people stay indoors and dont affect each other.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 24/06/2020 13:35

You aren't alone OP. I like it up to about 22 degrees with hardly any humidity. Fortunately my home is quite cool and I'm not having to commute to central London and my un-airconditioned office at the moment.

I had a fan on all night last night so I could sleep.

I've never liked the heat, but am fine when it's freezing.

I can’t wear long sleeves in this heat to keep the sun off of it

Why not? I feel cooler with arms and legs covered in loose clothing, also keeps the sun and insects off

I posted on a similar thread last year.

I'm 100% on the "anything over 20 degrees C is hell" team.
I'm Irish, I'm just not built to withstand temperatures!

Ever since I was wee, I've never really liked the sun. I don't mind the "nice" weather but I don't like the heat or being out, I prefer to lay in the shade. My family are all sun worshippers and used to give me a light slagging about being so pale and hiding in the shade. I didn't really think anything of it until last year when I read an article about anxiety during the summer and it all clicked.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.insider.com/hot-weather-cause-anxiety-2018-7%3famp

It mimics too many of the symptoms that I have when I'm in an anxious state. And there's very little you can do about it. As someone said, you can layer up if it's cold. Tough shit if it's warm.

YANBU, sunshine is lovely but you can have too much of a good thing. I'm happiest when it's 20-23°C, with low humidity and a moderate breeze. But as a keen gardener with a semi shaded garden I'm so grateful for the fantastic weather we had this May, and the fact that summer is looking to be pretty good too (albeit a bit hot at times).

I think people are best just being honest if they find high temperatures unpleasant - it's fine too say "This is a bit hot for me, so I won't be joining you for a trip to the beach/bike ride/whatever as I prefer to stay inside when it's this hot." Don't let people pressure you to do stuff you hate, OP.

I keep the curtains and windows shut on very hot days, until dusk, then open the windows. I go for my daily walk late in the evening and enjoy watching the sunset. Humid mights are horrid but the weather is going to break at the weekend, so not long to wait OP.
