Am I the only one that doesn't like this weather?

This may possibly just be me but I actually can't stand this weather! I get anxiety every summer. The thought of being outside sweating, itching, burning and surrounded by wasps/flies is like my worst nightmare. My poor kids/hubby think I'm insane (they do go outside obv) but I am much happier being in doors with windows open and fresh air/sun coming in than being outside and so uncomfortable. I do burn easily and hate the feeling of suncream (especially when it drips off in white streaks, stains clothes etc...) please someone tell me they have the same experience, I feel particularly naff about it today and friends invited us for a bike ride and felt bit crappy turning them down as I cannot fathom how on earth that would be enjoyable but felt shitty turning them down with no real reason as to why! I often turn stuff like that down in this weather as I just do not enjoy it. Favourite time is around 6pm when it is cooling off so we often do stuff in the eve. Is it just me???

What am I reading?! You don’t like sunshine and warm weather? Madness!!

CourtneyLurve · 23/06/2020 17:53

Same. I don't like the cold but I love miserable rainy weather!

Ginfordinner · 23/06/2020 17:55

We haven't been having seriously hot summer's for years - not in Yorkshire. 2018 was a hot summer. Last year the weather was cold and damp all through May and June. July was nice, then we did have some ridiculously hot days at the end of July, then it cooled down until we had a very hot bank holiday weekend. We then went straight into incessant rain for months on end. The flooding in South Yorkshire was horrendous. Previous years haven't been seriously hot either.

hollieberrie · 23/06/2020 17:56

Hate it! My favourite weather is rain ☔Grin

Imissmoominmama · 23/06/2020 18:00

I love the heat on my joints- they stop hurting. I do sweat heavily when it’s humid though.

lazylinguist · 23/06/2020 18:00

I don't like it really hot and I prefer to sit in the shade, but it really doesn't get very hot that often in the UK, and 'surrounded by wasps and flies' sounds a bit OTT unless you are going out coated in honey!

SerenityNowwwww · 23/06/2020 18:01

Last year I was in holiday and it was so hot I actually thought my eyes were melting. I mean my eyesight went fuzzy with the heat.

I don’t like the heat...

BarbedBloom · 23/06/2020 18:05

I loathe it, especially the humidity. I burn quickly due to pale skin, I get itchy heat rashes and hayfever, my RA flares and I can't sleep. I am permanently grumpy during the summer. I also get migraines when it is really bright.

I always listen when my friends moan about the winter but they always get so cross when I moan about the summer as apparently it is weird to hate feeling like you're sitting in an oven

Ginfordinner · 23/06/2020 18:07

I expect it does get hot and sticky in London lazylinguist. Not somewhere I would want to be in this weather. It is usually several degrees warmer in London compared to where I live. We have had a very pleasant 23 degrees today.

SerenityNowwwww · 23/06/2020 18:08

If it’s cold you can stick an extra jumper on and go a little tour business.

When it’s hotter than hell and your eyeballs are melting there’s not a huge amount you can do.

BarbedBloom · 23/06/2020 18:08

I can recommend Korean suncream though. It isn't heavy or sticky like ours. I use the Missha one

whichteaareyou · 23/06/2020 18:11

I hate this weather! Bring on October!

itsgettingweird · 23/06/2020 18:14

I'm loving it!

But ......

I'm either working from home or in school.
So when in school I'm outside for short periods during day but plenty of shade in school and we are outdoor learning in shade too.
When at home it's much cooler by the time I can go out in it and so don't have that "I should be out in this" feel!

I do love the sun. Lucky to live 10 minutes walk from miles of walks through farmland that has shade available and 10 minutes drive from a beach.

Lots of people don't like it though. Some people really just struggle in heat.

Having been pregnant in the height of summer when I lived in Canary Islands it's not so much an issue for me - that summer and their heatwave of 45°c+ certainly acclimatised me to ridiculous heat Grin

DrCoconut · 23/06/2020 18:14

Mumsnet is full of people who like winter and rain. I'd say they are the majority. I'd much rather enjoy a day at the beach or park when it's warm and light. I can't see how you can have fun in a howling gale, lashing rain and dark at 4pm. Summer weather (on the rare occasions we get it) helps my mood and my DC's autistic behaviour. We all benefit so much from sunshine and being able to get out. The warm evenings we've had at times during lockdown have made it bearable.

pastapestoparmesan · 23/06/2020 18:20

I hate it, and hate how people act as if you’re insane if you dare to disagree that it’s glorious weather. I burn, and feel dizzy and sick. Shade is my friend.

SpnBaby1967 · 23/06/2020 18:22

I hate it, I hate being hot & sticky (unless I have a big swimming pool to jump into of course).

I also get awful hayfever, like severely debilitating hayfever so the sooner September rolls around the better.

LuckyBitches · 23/06/2020 18:24

YADNBU. I don't like it. Running keeps me sane, but I can't do it anywhere above 20 celcius.

googledontknow · 23/06/2020 18:30

The sunshine really lifts my mood, but I don't actually like to be sat in it unless I have a beer in my hand and the day off.

Being slimmer and wearing the correct clothes definitely helps me enjoy this warm weather more than I have in the past.

Bettysnow · 23/06/2020 18:32

I spend the summer wishing for winter! Its really strange but I feel alive in cold weather especially extreme weather like snow and storms. In summer I have low energy am really tired all the time and find the heat so uncomfortable.

DarkDarkNight · 23/06/2020 18:38

If I lost 3 stone I would like it a lot more. The extra weight is really uncomfortable and it would mean I could wear clothes that were a bit cooler (this is my issue, I like to be ‘covered up’.

I love to feel the warm sun on my skin, but appreciate a little breeze as well. I don’t like the humidity that often goes along with heat in this country.

I find the type of red hot days we’ve had recently really stressful as my son is really pale and has sensory problems with sun cream and it’s a constant battle every summer.

Ginfordinner · 23/06/2020 18:40

Where is everyone where it has been red hot?

Feellikedancingyeah · 23/06/2020 18:48

It gets dark too late, light too early. Can't sleep as it is too warm. Autumn please

louisawhitegenius · 23/06/2020 19:34

Haha it hasn't been red hot but my living room thermo said it was 27 today - anything over 25 outside and I'm melting Confused 30 for the next couple of days which I'm not looking forward to. Maybe I just run hot, the min I step outside my moisturiser/sunscream is melting and I'm getting red. Fave seasons are Spring and Autumn but also like the coziness of Winter. Like I say I can bare it after about 6pm as sun is going down but for the rest of the day I'm happy in doors. Glad to hear there are other sun dodgers out there too!

I hate it. I hate it.

Snooks1971 · 23/06/2020 21:10

I hate it too, since I was a child (I’m 49). Every hot spell I wish I could flick some sort of internal switch and embrace temperatures over 25 degrees. Or 23 even.
Last week here it rained - Midlands - one evening we put the wood burner on! Now for the next 2 days it will be too hot to sleep! Fuckin weather.
