It's approx 5 miles

If not, what are main reasons you can't/don't?

Before lockdown easily, I walked to work /school run and work on my feet.
Now not so much, I don't often leave the house so it's hard to get them in. I do try to make sure I go on the exercise bike and cross trainer most days though.

Wow, I hit 6,000 steps today and thought I was some sort of athlete. Quite surprised by this thread and feel like I need to try harder! I love walking but never get too far as I walk with my toddler. On the days I'm working I might manage 2,000 steps max.

Yes, I have two dogs so walk 20-22K steps a day. On a rainy and cold day I'll do maybe 17-18K.

It's an hour and half in the morning before work, an hour in the afternoon and then another hour in the evening. In between that I do a few thousand steps just cleaning, washing, going to the shop etc.

I’ve been making a deliberate effort to walk more for the past month or so. For me it’s about 12,000 steps to do 5 miles and I’ve managed that most days. I work from home but am making sure I have a 30
Minute walk at lunchtime and then keep moving throughout the day as well

Yes. Usually a lot more. On non exercise days I usually get 13,000 at the very least, when I go running I usually end the day at 20,000 ish. I have two small DC and we have been doing a lot of big walks in lockdown. I'm also always on my feet running after them and am something of a fidgeter, so am often not sitting still!

I do 12,000 on a work day, between 6-8 thousand on days off. I’m quite lazy on days off and wouldn’t even do that if the dogs didn’t need walks.

I walk between 10 - 17 a day.....and that's just at home. Heck knows how. That's between 4-6 miles just indoors

Nope as I think steady cardio is abit pointless unless you specifically enjoy or do it for a purpose eg walking dog.

Just had a look at my Map My Walk history. I am on the tall side, (5'8"), and for me, 10,000 steps is only around 6 km...

I have absolutely no idea how many steps I do in the house. How would I know that? Does everyone have Fitbits or special watches or something?

Anyway, I also thought steady cardio didn't count as exercise, so not sure why this "if not, why not - EXPLAIN yourselves young ladies" question is being posed so...authoritatively. What does it mean if we don't do it 😨? Or am I misinterpreting the tone of the question?

Not a clue, I'm reasonably active but I've never counted steps.

I try to but even though I park and stride on work days it's impossible unless I do some sport in the evening.
All tied in with sport for me so not walking as such, but steps. Active days can be 15-20K. Work without striding (such as in lockdown) 3K 🙁

Around 5000 a day walking to work, but then sit at desk all day.

I usually do between 10k to 20k steps per day, I have to walk a lot, otherwise my body falls apart.
I used to find that on school holidays with no school runs and barely walking around the house actually me me suffer so much pain that I ended up at the doctors or walk in centre several times. Doc says I have fibromyalgia. Anyway keeping up with the walking and exercise keeps the pain at bay.

I do between 8500-10000. Often it's only 5000-6000 from an actual walk, plus the rest pottering about. Surprisingly it's only the walk that counts on my Fitbit active minutes, but I think they're counted on heart rate and exertion level.

Yep, I have a step counter and have a 10k target and usually hit it. That's just walking to/from work, walking around the office during the day, usually a short lunchtime walk, and then walking around the house morning and evening doing normal chores. On non working days, I try to get a couple of walks in to get the 10k, and when weather is bad, I have a treadmill in the garage.

I do it to lose weight. I'm now lost 5 stone and feel a lot healthier. That's just by walking. I still eat "normal" meals. Not done any other kind of exercise for years.

Nope, I have been shielding my child for the last 16 weeks and have barely left the house. Lucky to get 3000 a day at the moment.

Definitely not at the moment. Being at home all the time with a 2yr old who isn’t a fan of the buggy and walks very slowly means I’m definitely not doing as much as usual!

Yes because I am walking to work now - 82,000 last week!

Yes I can't remember a day when I missed 10000. I average around 14000. I drive to work and sit at a desk but I walk my dogs everyday and exercise most days too.

I used to what with taking public transport and walking around the office
for meetings, going for a walk at lunch and so on before I started covid-imposed. I'm a lot more sedentary nowadays and manage 3k-6k depending on what I do.

Pre lockdown no, car commute to office job, quick lunch break at my desk, lazy bad habits in the evening.

Since lockdown manage it most days, loving our daily walks and moving more playing with the kids, working from home we just have so much more time and flexibility to exercise during day when my energy levels are highest.

The 2 year old can walk 2-3 miles at a time now which helps massively, feel like we're moving into the next stage of family life now we aren't constrained by buggy/nap/mealtimes

I am this year - got an Apple Watch for Xmas. I don't really look at the 'steps' though, I'm keeping track of distance accrued on actual walks, so far this year ~950km

I work part time from home (normally, not just a lockdown thing) so I've got time and we need it for our basic health and well-being.

At work I do, I work in care so there its lots of walking around our large building, can easily get 15000 a day.

On my days off, nope!
