If you were buying what would be your non negotiable.... And how far from a station/high street would you be willing to live?

OP posts:
Greyandpink · 21/06/2020 17:20

South facing garden

Aquamarine1029 · 21/06/2020 17:22

Detached only.

thebeatofthedrum · 21/06/2020 17:22

Garden
Garage & off road parking for 2+ vehicles
Walking distance to a station (1/1.5 miles)
High Street not important but a corner shop of some sort within 1/1.5 miles
Good internet access

notacooldad · 21/06/2020 17:23

Not backing on to a train track
Own drive for minimum of 3 cars
Decent garden
At least two large bedrooms
Within 4 miles of work
Near my group of friends
Within 4 miles of cinema, good restaurants, ice rink and pubs.
2 large reception rooms
Within 3 miles of the countryside.
Not a relatively new build estate.
In fact everything I already have which makes it hard to find a new house.

FaceOfASpink · 21/06/2020 17:24
  1. Garden - decent size, south facing and not overlooked.
  2. Laundry room. Big enough to leave an ironing board up permanently.
I don't use the train. Happy to drive 15 to 20 minutes for a high street.
LellyMcKelly · 21/06/2020 17:24

Decent schools. I could live with almost anything else.

FaceOfASpink · 21/06/2020 17:25

Not on a busy road but I'd consider a quiet through road.

Mumdiva99 · 21/06/2020 17:25

School catchment areas.
We don't have a 'high street but we are walking distance to various amenities (supermarket, doctors, library etc). We no longer commute regularly so station isn't that important (we are about an 7/8 minute drive or 35 minute walk).

yippityboomdeboom · 21/06/2020 17:26

I'd definitely prioritise location for a forever home, it's the one thing you absolutely can't change whereas overtime you can change a lot about a house, especially if it's big enough for reconfiguration and extensions.

I already live quite rurally, id be happy in the middle of nowhere, probs max 15 minute drive to a corner shop for "emergencies"?

M0mmyneedswine · 21/06/2020 17:27

Decent garden and off road parking, not bothered about distance to stations and happy to drive 20 mins for high street but would like a local shop

Linnet · 21/06/2020 17:27

Preferably detached, although there are semi detached houses in my city I would consider.
4 or 5 bedrooms
A utility room
A driveway, not shared.
Maybe a garage
A garden with patio area not too overlooked.
Maximum 30-45 minutes walk from high street, which in my small city is most it.

geojojo · 21/06/2020 17:27

Good location as in 1/2 mile from a station and high street, near to a good school, good sense of community. That would be my top requirement. After that would be at least 3 bed, semi detached or detached (have had nightmare neighbours in a terrace before), a garden.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 21/06/2020 17:28

Living/dining room. I hate kitchen/diners.
Decent sized garden, trees in an ideal world.
Decent schools.

notheragain4 · 21/06/2020 17:28

Having more than 1 toilet is non negotiable no matter what.

Then the extras we wanted this time: detached, garage, dining area separate from living room, bedroom for each child plus a spare and study.

Not worried about being close to high street, walking distance to a train station is a bonus not a necessity for us as travel by train sporadically currently.

Magpiecomplex · 21/06/2020 17:29

Unfashionable, but separate dining room. Also enough decent sized bedrooms for the children to each have roughly the same amount of space. And if WFH carries on indefinitely, his and hers offices!

Sally872 · 21/06/2020 17:29

Good school and play areas for children. Life is so much easier when they can go out to play rather than relying on parents to organise play dates.

Detached and garden.

gggrrrargh · 21/06/2020 17:30

Parking is utter essential for me. Second would be garden space, even a tiny one. Anything else is a bonus

Mirrorxx · 21/06/2020 17:31

We are looking at the moment and I won’t compromise on
Distance to tram/train station
Area- walking distances to cafes etc
Good primary schools
Kitchen/dining/family room
More than one loo

Nice to have would include utility room, drive, 4th bedroom

BadAlice · 21/06/2020 17:31

-Outdoor space - grass! Not astroturf or paved!
-Quiet road
-Village or rural location
-Immediate access to running and walking routes
-Outbuildings/garage a real bonus but not a dealbreaker if there’s space

Happy to live 30 mins or more from a high street and/or station provided there is a petrol station or similar for basics within 20 mins.

MRex · 21/06/2020 17:32

Affordable; it's all very well to have a wishlist, but need to be able to pay for the house in any eventualities.
If I were buying right now my wish list would include:
Detached
Near here
Good schools
Quiet location
Near the park
Bright and big rooms
South/ East facing big garden

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 21/06/2020 17:33

Not fussed about the high street thing, a corner shop within a 10 min walk is fine enough for me.
Don’t care about how far a station is as I rarely get the train.

Fairenuff · 21/06/2020 17:34

What size do people call a 'decent' garden?

40somethingJBJ · 21/06/2020 17:34

Detached, with no immediate neighbours. Garden not overlooked. Space on the drive for my caravan plus a couple of cars. Can’t remember the last time I used a train, so wouldn’t need proximity to a station, and lockdown has made me realise I really don’t need a corner shop or anything nearby, as I’ve managed 14 weeks now without setting foot in one, just getting deliveries or click and collect orders, and I don’t mind driving for a while for fetch that. In an area with excellent wifi and phone signal is a must though!

Twofurrycatsagain · 21/06/2020 17:35

Detached preferably with no near neighbours.
4 beds.
Office.
Workshop\garage.
Plenty of storage.
Not open plan.
Not bothered about stations as I mainly work from home. good internet connection is a necessity.

Mmmmycorona · 21/06/2020 17:35

At this point in my life I would want, detached, driveway, kitchen diner, good sized garden, 4 bedrooms, downstairs loo, non south facing garden, non new build, needing work, cul de sac location or not on a main road.
My first house, something within budget.
