If you were buying what would be your non negotiable.... And how far from a station/high street would you be willing to live?

My house that I live in now is perfect for me. It doesn't suit everyone's criteria - there's no driveway or garage, it's a semi, north facing garden but it overlooks woodland, is on a quiet street and has good access to work and the shops. I love it here.

No structural problems!

Walking distance to shops and public transport (I don't drive, dh tries to drive as little as possible).

No structural problems.

Affordable mortgage.

And did I say...no structural problems!

Also, not a north-facing garden. Ours faces west, which is fine. Would love a big garden (for gardening purposes) but they are out of our price range as are detached houses.

No structural problems.

I'm only about halfway through the thread but I'm finding it really interesting reading everyone's list. It's interesting how much budget affects it in that I would never even consider having a nice view or a sea view as a non-negotiable because I just couldn't afford that in our area. When we bought, our list was;
Bedroom for everybody
Decent size garden
Somewhere to put the toys
A 'laundry area' we have a plumbed in area of the garage, so that counts!
A garage.

The house we bought has lots of storage which is amazing so I'd probably add that to my list if we moved again.

If money was no object I'd have all my list in a house that sits beside a lake with its own jetty and no neighbours. A few outbuildings so we could have visitors but they could do their own thing, large windows with lots of natural light. I didn't really know what a non-fitted kitchen was but after a previous poster mentioned it, I googled it and now I like those too!

Oh and a huge hallway so when I open the front door I can see right through the house (again on my if money was so object list).

I thought I was all on my own in not wanting an en-suite, it’s been quite comforting to find other people don’t like them either.

It just feels like such a symbol of how car obsessed and addicted we've become.

My point of view is that if I had off-street parking, I could confidently make my next car an electric, just get one with enough range for normal use and have no worries about charging. But without my own parking space I'd be much more encouraged to buy another fossil-fuelled car.

also I have actually removed one before ! Sod the ‘drop in value’ or whatever - never ever understood the ‘allure’.

Orangery
Indoor and outdoor pool
En suite bathrooms
Walk in closets
Helicopter pad
Seperate servant quarters

Lol! Jokes, I can't afford a house 😞

oh dear, if money was no object, my own list would be completely different.
Priority would be nowhere near the UK for a start, imagine where you can live if you don't have to work...
