If you were buying what would be your non negotiable.... And how far from a station/high street would you be willing to live?

Eminybob · 21/06/2020 17:56

Oh and drive way

Coldilox · 21/06/2020 17:57

We’re in the process of moving. For us, main priority was location, we love where we live and wanted to stay in walking distance of school. Wanted a quiet street/ideally a cul-de-sac for minimal traffic. All other houses well kept.

Other things we wanted: decent garden, off road parking, at least two toilets, open plan kitchen diner.

All other things we were flexible on.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 21/06/2020 17:58

Parking for at least 2 cars side by side
Detached
South facing garden
Walking distance to local amenities.

Not bothered about a high street as such, just a shop within a mile. Train station distance would be irrelevant, where I live trains aren't used for committing, I imagine that's mainly for people who commute to London.

BlueJava · 21/06/2020 17:59

Quiet, secure and private
4 large bedrooms you can fit beds + bedroom furniture and desks in
3+ bathrooms with downstairs loo
Parking for 3 cars
Open plan kitchen/diner/living room
Lots of light
Low maintenance

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 21/06/2020 18:00

Location - walking distance of town and public transport.
No houses backing onto our garden.
Size of rooms.
Large windows.
Utility room.
Plenty of storage.
Decent-sized gardens.
Double garage.
Upstairs and downstairs bathrooms.

Nighttimefreedom · 21/06/2020 18:01

Location is major for me, so within a 10 minute walk to public transport connection (metro here).
Must also be able to walk to school, shops and go out of my front door walk and be 'somewhere' e.g. nice park, coast etc.
Don't have a car at the moment and hate being reliant on one, so I could never live rurally.
In terms of the accommodation itself a bedroom for each child and I'd like 2 reception rooms too.
Not fussed about the garden as I like to be near parks and beaches.

HaudMaDug · 21/06/2020 18:01

Good distance away from and above any local river/stream levels.
Decent water pressure.

SimonJT · 21/06/2020 18:03

Location
Off road parking
Good soundproofing
Open plan living area/easy to convert to open plan
Fairly close to good schools (which really is covered in location)

notalwaysalondoner · 21/06/2020 18:06

South facing garden (or at least SE/SW)
Downstairs loo
Kitchen diner (or ability to create one by knocking down a wall)
Certain floor area
Separate living room
No tiny box room
Bathroom big enough to put in a bath

I work in London and wouldn’t live more than 15 minutes walk from a station, or 10 minutes drive from a high street.

SteelyPanther · 21/06/2020 18:08

I would never buy a house with an open front garden. People think they can walk all over your front garden, kids run up to collect their ball others let their dogs use it as a toilet.
It’s a front wall/fence and a lockable front gate for me next time.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 21/06/2020 18:08

Detached with a sea/loch view and must have a stand-alone kitchen.

4/5 bedrooms - am Sick of looking at stuff which is clearly a 3 bed with a downstairs bedroom which is obviously just a dining room with a bed in it. No shame people, just own it.

mencken · 21/06/2020 18:12

detached.
no dog owners nearby and no audible dogs when you walk round the local streets.
detached.
elderly neighbours. They look after gardens, don't play loud music and are not generally drug dealers.
no school nearby; mess, screaming, traffic problems
bus route nearby but not passing the door
off street parking
double glazing that wasn't installed by an idiot.
one bathroom and a separate downstairs toilet. No ensuites.
private garden that gets sun.
not exposed to too much wind, more than one access route (flood/snow/car crash)
not in a flood zone or threatened by building on one.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 21/06/2020 18:13
  1. Detatched (more important to DH than me)

  2. Off-road parking

  3. Decent storage space (our current house didn't have a single built in cupboard when we moved in and it was chaos!)

  4. within 20 mins of a station with a London connection. No more than 75mins to London.

  5. A community when people know their neighbours and there are amentities - a pub, a shop, a village hall etc

  6. 3 beds minimum, 4 preferred

mintandcoral · 21/06/2020 18:14

Anything less than this is frankly unacceptable and I'd be ashamed to live there:

A south facing garden
More than one toilet
Huge light and airy rooms
At least one ensuite
Large dining kitchen
Seperate dining room
Double garage
A breakfast room

His and her offices
A pond
His and hers walk in wardrobe
An artists studio
A bootroom
A snacking cupboard
A west facing garden
A dumbwaiter
A safe
A show aga
A belfast sink
Stables
Silver mustard pot with a tiny spoon
Underground wine cellar
An orangery
An east facing garden
At least 5 acres
Bulletproof glass
A north facing garden
A nice view of Earth

NameChange84 · 21/06/2020 18:16

I’m so happy with my home BUT I do regret not having a downstairs loo or the possibility to construct one.

mintandcoral · 21/06/2020 18:16

Somewhere to hide my illicit lover

DanniArthur · 21/06/2020 18:16

Good location,
2 car driveway
No huge repairs,
large garden (ideally south facing),
Catchment area for good school,
Plenty storage space
I also wanted to be on the outskirts of town, close enough to the shops that I can walk if need be but will country and space around me.

Settlersofcatan · 21/06/2020 18:18

Good schools
15 mins walk or less from a station
Downstairs loo
Two full bathrooms
No box rooms

Not fussed about parking (don't have a car), garden (useful to have some but not worried about it being huge), busyness of road

Ilovemypantry · 21/06/2020 18:20

No near neighbours. After living for years next door to a very noisy neighbour, this would be my upmost priority.

C152H · 21/06/2020 18:20

Here's what I would prioritise, though if money was no issue, I'd have a bigger wish list!

  • freehold property
  • min. 2 double bedrooms
  • garden
  • separate kitchen and living space
  • no further than zone 2 (London)
  • have more than 1 public transport option (i.e. train and bus routes nearby)
  • up to 15 min walk to the nearest train station
FenellaMaxwell · 21/06/2020 18:22

Garden
Open plan kitchen
Playroom
Near to a shop

Having lived at the beach for some years, I don’t think I could live away from the sea, either.

TARSCOUT · 21/06/2020 18:24

Detached and garden. Could be in the middle of nowhere or on a main road, not fussed.

Elai1978 · 21/06/2020 18:25

A garage capable of holding a minimum of 3 cars.

Lotsofpots · 21/06/2020 18:26

Can someone explain to me why a south facing garden is so desirable? We have a north west facing garden and we get loads of sun, just in different places throughout the day. Our garden thrives, we grow vegetables no problem, it's regularly too hot in the sun for the kids. And this is in a London terraced garden
I don't understand what south facing offers that's so desirable over anything else - I feel I need to know this to be a true grown up!

ButtWormHole · 21/06/2020 18:27

Detached
South facing garden
Village location
