What can women do that men cannot do? (Reproductive features aside)

Happy Father’s Day to all celebrating! June for me is Fathers month as my dad passed away in June so truly I think of Fathers and Men a lot this month.

I would like some ideas around the question - What can women do that men cannot do? -

Am I being unreasonable to think that aside reproduction (potential to carry babies, features that come with this) there’s nothing.

If anyone can help with a different view, I’d be grateful.

Thanks

Woman also live longer due to the protective effects of oestrogen. We can develop lot's of female cancers. We can fit into smaller spaces (generally). We can ride a horse without fear of "ball twang". We process alcohol slower due to having more body fat (2 in1).

Not being sexual predators

iwilltaketwoplease · 21/06/2020 14:40

Look after the kids for more than a few hours Grin

I can't actually think of anything.

Or perhaps, control their anger better?

I'm not saying women don't have anger issues, but (in my experience) anger and violence issues are more prominent in men, so women would seem to have more control over their emotions.

Follow the plot of Scandi-noir dramas. Perhaps that's just our house.

ShinyFootball · 21/06/2020 14:48

Until recently (hopefully corrected now) be much more likely to be killed or seriously injured in low speed car collisions as the safety things were all designed around the average man.

Rebelwithallthecause · 21/06/2020 14:50

The sensitivity a biological woman has compared to a man is noticeably different

Outside of the repro, sexual and immunology differences, there's not really anything women can do that men can't in absolute terms. Culturally there is a huge number of things that men "can't" do either legally or due to socialisation, and there's at least as much more that they could do perfectly well but choose not to, like holding their piss in until they get to a toilet.

iklboo · 21/06/2020 14:56

Get the wee in the toilet. Every time. Grin

Bawdrip · 21/06/2020 14:57

We have much better periphery vision.
We can go longer without food- on survival type programmes men come to a standstill after a few days when women start burning their stored fat and cope much better.

So I guess with these two traits we'd survive longer in a post apocalyptic wilderness??

WutheringTights · 21/06/2020 14:57

Fly.

What? You mean you can't?

FridayNightAtTheBronze · 21/06/2020 14:59

Bawdrip

Good point. Women can get into ketosis far more easily than men.

giantangryrooster · 21/06/2020 15:06

I have a sneaky feeling this is trans/feminism related, but I will bite (probably said already.

Breastfeed.

mencken · 21/06/2020 15:11

no actual skill difference beyond the obvious. Women can't run as fast, jump as high, lift as much as there are physical limits, which is why the running about and throwing things sports have to be divided. There are plenty of sports which do not and they are the interesting ones.

ShinyFootball · 21/06/2020 15:13

I believe women generally have a better sense of smell than men.

Goatinthegarden · 21/06/2020 15:19
@Goatinthegarden I am like your DH😂
I've never had brands on a list. Though we usually buy the same ones so no point I guess. It just... Naturally evolved into knowing what to buy
@SchrodingersImmigrant

But the point is, he will write ‘crisps’ on the list and when I say, ‘which ones?’, he will say, ‘you choose’.

To me, I never want ‘crisps’, I want the particular crisp I fancy at that moment; say spicy tortilla chips, or salt and vinegar hand cooked, etc. I’d be quietly devastated if he returned with something different (even though I would probably still eat them anyway).

Plus it is so irritating to see ‘fruit’ written on a list. Does he want a bloody banana or a floofing watermelon?! His answer, ‘I don’t mind’. Arrrrrgh!

Our marriage was much safer back when we could go food shopping together.

@FridayNightAtTheBronze

The balance beam in gymnastics.

Women are far superior on this apparatus, and men do not compete on the balance beam in the Olympics.

There you go! Grin Nothing about reproduction there.

But is it because they'd never be able to reproduce if they had a slip?
SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/06/2020 15:34

That's us, rubbish bins😂
Any crisps will do. Any butter will do, fruit is simply fruit because any will do. In my house "fruit" means apples and whatever else looks good (sometimes the fruits are bit yuck in supermarkets).

It keeps life interesting and full of surprises 😂

Merename · 21/06/2020 15:38

@rebecca102 sadly this is not true, while not as frequent, there are female sexual predators out there.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/06/2020 15:42

@Merename probably combination of that and the fact that it's somewhat accepted.
My classmate in highschool had a "girlfriend" who was 43. We were 16-17... No one had an issue with it. But if genders were the other way around, the man would be called a perv.

ShinyFootball · 21/06/2020 15:46

97% ish of people in prison in the UK for sex offences are male.

So let's leave that there shall.

Kokapetl · 21/06/2020 15:46

Men can't really go out in public in a dress without getting a few smirks at the very least. Bit of a shame really- I think they should be able to.

ShinyFootball · 21/06/2020 15:47

'But if genders were the other way around, the man would be called a perv.'

But not arrested even if violent coercion, rape, sex trafficking was involved as per Rotherham etc.

So like I say, can that be be left there.

ShinyFootball · 21/06/2020 15:48

Oh and those girls were about 12 up, not 16/ 17.

But yeah we can't talk about the fact that male sex offending is a massive issue without saying women do it too...
