To be shocked that DP has never had a jam sandwich before?

DP and myself took DS to the park this morning, having a little picnic watching the ducks. Jam sarnies and fruit. Lovely.
DP comes out with the statement that he’s never, ever had a jam sandwich before and how nice it was, just like jam on toast.
He’s 35! How has he got to this stage in life and not had a jam sarnie?!

And tomato sandwiches (ok maybe it's me that's odd)

Oysterbabe · 20/06/2020 19:26

Cucumber and tomato sandwiches are odd. Add cheese and we're fine.

berryhead2013 · 20/06/2020 19:43

Ahhhh a jam piece but do you put butter on as well ???

Jingstohang · 20/06/2020 19:54

I havent read the thread, but my dads favourite sandwich is jam and cheese Envy not envy.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 20/06/2020 20:00

@OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow

Golden syrup on Philadelphia. Mmmmm. On the opposite end of scale, growing up in Australia A favourite sandwich was cold tinned spaghetti or baked beans. I couldn’t sit near anyone having it for lunch. 🤢
I love cold baked beans, even better with salad cream mixed in!
Ginkypig · 20/06/2020 20:00

@ExpletiveDelighted

You both will be horrified to find out that some people put jam on Yorkshire pudding for pudding - in my family it's golden syrup. Otherwise eaten as a starter with onion gravy. Just not on the main plate. Jam, no.
I have had a really good think and while I have added to this thread, I am familiar with them Iv even added a song I don't think I have actually had one myself!

A honey piece though! Oh my goodness! The joy!

By the Dp says jam on a Yorkshire isn't that different to the concept of having jam on a pancake.

GingerbreadTeen · 20/06/2020 20:11

Hope this doesn't get me reported or thrown off this thread, but I once had a Brie and Lemon Curd sandwich, prepacked from a little newsagent. I think it was Martin's. It was heavenly, like lemon cheesecake in a sandwich. Thoroughly recommend.

Oooh Yorkshire pudding with salt, sugar or jam.. yes please

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/06/2020 20:18

I wouldn't put jam on a pancake either, I just don't think they go together.

Ninkanink · 20/06/2020 20:19

Raspberry jam on a pancake is lovely. Only on crepes, though. American pancakes are better with maple syrup and streaky bacon.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 20/06/2020 20:37

I love cold baked beans, even better with salad cream mixed in! well that’s just wrong.
My Canadian great aunt and uncle used to have marmalade on bacon.
My df loved Yorkshire puds with milk and sugar. They are just Pancakes really.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/06/2020 20:38

@Mycatsmellsbad

I’ve never had a jam sandwich, or jam on toast. To me it’s mixing sweet and savoury which is just all kinds of wrong.
Yep. This!
HowLongCanICallitBabyWeight · 20/06/2020 20:39

I've never eaten one either, I like jam on toast but a jam sandwich sounds claggy, sweet and unappealing

Glitteryone · 20/06/2020 20:42

YABU - I have never had a ham sandwich and I would never want to have one!

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 20/06/2020 21:43

They are not nice. Horrible mix of sweet and savoury.

I’m obviously aware of them though!

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 20/06/2020 21:44

The only things I’d have jam on are scones or croissants or something that’s already fairly sweet, or at least in the sweet “section” iyswim.

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/06/2020 21:46

Never on croissants either, or crumpets, they are both for savoury toppings only.

AlpineSnow · 20/06/2020 21:49

Damson jam or bramble jelly are the nicest jams. 😋

Eckhart · 20/06/2020 21:55

Does he expect you to believe him? Wow. Such an astonishing lie.

LTB!

MorganKitten · 20/06/2020 21:57

I have not and will not have one, jam is gross.

Lockdownlooks · 20/06/2020 22:09

Never had a jam sandwich, only on bread and butter or jam on toast. Not averse to it just not something I’ve come across.

Euclid · 20/06/2020 22:11

Your DP is not alone. I have never had a jam sandwich and have no wish for do so!

Euclid · 20/06/2020 22:12

To do so, not for do so. Autocorrect!

TempestHayes · 20/06/2020 22:26

Never had one either. I didn't grow up with such a thing so it's not going to occur to me to start now. Plus I don't eat sugary stuff.

I've heard of people eating sugar sandwiches, dripping, Golden syrup, condensed milk... nope. Looking through this thread I've never eaten these things. Hundreds and thousands sandwiches? Why was this food even created?

EngagedAgain · 20/06/2020 22:33

I get why marmalade on bacon would work. Fruit in various forms accompanies meat well. I like jam ON nice fresh white bread, but not in it! 😋 Just fancy a cheese and onion crisp sandwich right now.
