Shocked at the message I have woken up to on eBay this morning -

Are you having a laugh you are asking for what you paid for it. Plus you bought it in last years sale. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!

Like WTF 🤣 what is WRONG with people

AIBU with my reply !

Actually I bought it this year from next for £16
So let me break it down for you Someone pays £15.10 take of postage £2.95 and then PayPal fees 74p and £1 fee to eBay I end up with £10.41 and thats without the fuel to go and post it, so why don’t you get your facts right before messaging people 🙄 I am sick of giving stuff away for a few quid because people think they are oh’d something on here! I don’t pay out my hard earned money to then give clothes away for free to people on eBay, if you don’t want to pay the price for high street brands go to Primark.

To get £10 for a second hand item you bought a year ago for £16 is not that bad.

ChangeThePassword · 17/06/2020 07:28

To be fair, I wouldn't pay £15.10 on ebay for something I could buy new for £16 from a local shop.

But I wouldn't message anyone about it.

IndecentFeminist · 17/06/2020 07:28

Regardless of what it costs you to post, sounds overpriced.

But yeah, I wouldn't message you. I just wouldn't pay that.

macaronilemonpony · 17/06/2020 07:29

Good grief!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/06/2020 07:30

YANBU. There's no argument against what you've said, is there. No one is forced to buy or bid for anything. If you don't think some thing is worth the asking price you move on.

Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 07:31

Its a children's 2 piece outfit from river island that sold out as soon as it came online, I don't expect people to pay £15.10 they can collect it from me for £12 its the postage that makes it more!

Im just shocked someone would message me this its rare you can get river island items on eBay below the tag price 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
LellyMcKelly · 17/06/2020 07:31

I’d have just replied, ‘Then don’t buy it’.

Isthisfinallyit · 17/06/2020 07:32

You can sell it for what you like. If it doesn't sell then your price is too high.

Pluckedpencil · 17/06/2020 07:32

The truth is, lots of things on eBay would be as cheap or cheaper if available in the high street shop. But a lot of the listings are no longer available in the high street shop, and that's why you look on eBay. So yanbu.

ragged · 17/06/2020 07:33

Don't respond, or go with:

"I hope you find what you want at the price you want."

Which really means:
"If you can find it cheaper elsewhere then buy it there!"
&
"Are you jealous bc you just sold one for far less & realise you could have got more ££?"

Why do they waste their time on that type of crappy msg, I wonder.

Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 07:33

@Finfintytint Sorry I am an idiot I should have said its brand new with the tags!!

OP posts:
CaMePlaitPas · 17/06/2020 07:34

Oh'd?

ChangeThePassword · 17/06/2020 07:34

River Island? You said you bought it from Next. Hmm

Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 07:35

@ChangeThePassword Yes you can but many different brands on the next website such as river island, Joules, nike even Tesco clothing.

OP posts:
Piffle11 · 17/06/2020 07:36

Well, I’d definitely be blocking that one! There’s loads of stuff on eBay that gets bought from shops like RI, that is on for much more than the shop originally sold it for because it was a sell-out and is still popular. There was an H&M dress I really liked before lockdown: £34.99 and sold out. Several on eBay for £60-£75. I wouldn’t dream of sending a snotty message to the sellers, though!

geojojo · 17/06/2020 07:36

I think someone would be crazy to buy it for that price but you're entitled to try and sell it for whatever price you like.

ThunderLightning · 17/06/2020 07:37

Yeah. £10 is a good price for something you bought for £16 a year ago. I wouldn’t even pay that.

They weren’t very polite about it though, they don’t have to buy it. And messaging you to say that is a bit weird. But I’m always confused when I see people trying to sell second hand stuff at pretty much the same price they paid for it (unless its unique/antique/collectible stuff that goes up in value, obviously).

ChangeThePassword · 17/06/2020 07:39

Fair enough. It's been years since I used the next website.

BillysMyBunny · 17/06/2020 07:39

Why was Next selling River Island clothing?

tectonicplates · 17/06/2020 07:41

OP personally I wouldn't have bothered replying, but please add this person to your blocked buyers list. If they're rude enough to actually send you that message, they'll be cheeky enough to do other dodgy things and you may be left out of pocket.

I never understand what these people think they're going to achieve. I've seen it in shops too, especially charity shops - people who walk around having a deliberately loud conversation about how expensive everything is, as if that's somehow going to guilt trip the staff into giving them a discount. If it's too expensive for you, leave it and move on, or bookmark the page in case the item goes on sale at a later date.

ChangeThePassword · 17/06/2020 07:41

Surely that's a question for Next, BillysMyBunny?

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 17/06/2020 07:44

I certainly wouldnt message anyone about it but yeah, I would never buy something for £15.10 that you can get brand new for £16, thats absolutely idiotic.

However, the fact is, you can charge what you damn well like and people can choose to pay it or not. IF it doesnt sell, then chances are it IS too overpriced.

CarolVordermansArse · 17/06/2020 07:44

Add that one to your blocked bidders.

BTW I don't know what postage service you use but with RM you only get large letter for that price now.

Clevererthanyou · 17/06/2020 07:46

Are we not allowed to buy River Island clothes from NEXT? Confused they usually end up cheaper than the RI website 🙈

tectonicplates · 17/06/2020 07:47

I would never buy something for £15.10 that you can get brand new for £16, thats absolutely idiotic.

If it was something that sold out ages ago but was still in demand, and was still unworn with tags attached, and the price included "free" postage, then I would absolutely pay that amount.
