Shocked at the message I have woken up to on eBay this morning -

Are you having a laugh you are asking for what you paid for it. Plus you bought it in last years sale. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!

Like WTF 🤣 what is WRONG with people

AIBU with my reply !

Actually I bought it this year from next for £16
So let me break it down for you Someone pays £15.10 take of postage £2.95 and then PayPal fees 74p and £1 fee to eBay I end up with £10.41 and thats without the fuel to go and post it, so why don’t you get your facts right before messaging people 🙄 I am sick of giving stuff away for a few quid because people think they are oh’d something on here! I don’t pay out my hard earned money to then give clothes away for free to people on eBay, if you don’t want to pay the price for high street brands go to Primark.

Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 08:14

@Lepetitpiggy Oh yes 100% people will bid on items on eBay get them cheap then sell on eBay for triple the price!

Iv also given bags of clothes away before to a person who told me she was in need and could not afford nice things for her 2 DD's then she blocked me and sold it all on FB 🤦🏻‍♀️

stairgates · 17/06/2020 08:15

I would pay it OP, gladly if it was the outfit I had wanted and couldnt get. I would also block, have they already bought it? I would be worried they bought it then told ebay it arrived ripped and got a refund.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 17/06/2020 08:15

You don't have to reply to messages either OP. Don't get into arguments with idiots, they'll drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Just delete the message and ignore them.

AdalindMeisner · 17/06/2020 08:15

@ChangeThePassword

To be fair, I wouldn't pay £15.10 on ebay for something I could buy new for £16 from a local shop.

But I wouldn't message anyone about it.

This. For the sake of 90p I would rather buy new.
KatharinaRosalie · 17/06/2020 08:16

So someone takes time to go through all eBay listings and message people about what they think of their pricing? Things are worth what people are willing to pay for them, simple.

Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 08:17

@AdalindMeisner As previously said it is brand new with tags, and unavailable to buy anymore online.

OP posts:
tectonicplates · 17/06/2020 08:17

So do people buy things just to sell them on? If something is unworn, what does that mean - that it was especially bought to sell?

In many cases it's because I bought something with the intention of wearing it but then never did. Millions of people have unworn clothes in their wardrobes. It would be great if we didn't but it does happen. Also with children's clothes, if they don't wear the clothes within a certain time frame then they'll grow in size and the clothes will no longer fit.

Sally99 · 17/06/2020 08:18

It's your business what you sell for and the buyer's business what they are prepared to pay.

I have in the past paid far more than an item is worth because I really really wanted it and had been looking for it for ages.

molifly14 · 17/06/2020 08:18

You do sound like your overcharging though. I wouldn't buy something for £15.10 it t was £16 new. Regardless of if it had tags on.

Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 08:19

@stairgates No luckily!

Love this new reply AFTER I blocked her ? Help 😂

With you vocabulary and grammar. You certainly go not work for the NHS. I have never shopped in that so called shop. It is not a donation.
If that truly are a practitioner then you would never have to sell your clothes. Goodbye and good luck with your future

OP posts:
tectonicplates · 17/06/2020 08:20

@@AdalindMeisner The point being that you can't get it in the shops because it's sold out. It's about supply and demand.

flibbertmygibbert · 17/06/2020 08:20

IT.IS.BRAND.NEW loudly for the the people at the back.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 17/06/2020 08:23

I've just discovered eBay (we are downsizing with many things to sell) and learned how to "ebay" a couple of weeks ago.

I am shocked at the way some people behave! People who buy things then claim they are broken or something wrong with it and demand money off. Still. I have learned many lessons over the past few days and will not be so green about it in future. Some people are just downright dishonest.

But also there have been some lovely people who have been thrilled silly about picking up a good bargain.

Lepetitpiggy · 17/06/2020 08:23

Ah, ok! thanks 😊

EatsShootsAndRuns · 17/06/2020 08:24

So do people buy things just to sell them on? If something is unworn, what does that mean - that it was especially bought to sell?

Possibly. As a business seller, I buy wholesale to sell on eBay, Amazon etc.

On my private accounts, I may choose to sell something I've not worn so is still brand new with tags.

AranciaRosso · 17/06/2020 08:24

There's no such thing as 'overcharging' on eBay - this is because nobody is compelled to buy anything. Don't like the price? Move on and find a cheaper one. That's the beauty of auctions - you bid your max and then you forget about it. If you win, you won. If you didn't, someone wanted it more than you.
People do not sell stuff on eBay for the benefit and gratification of others. They do it to make money for themselves and they are not running a charity.

AranciaRosso · 17/06/2020 08:26

OP - blocking just means they can't bid on your stuff. It doesn't stop them messaging you. If you feel uneasy about the messages contact eBay - they are quite helpful with this kind of thing.

tectonicplates · 17/06/2020 08:26

@Dinocan

You’re being cheeky trying to sell stuff on for the same price you bought it. It doesn’t sound like a specialist or rare item. They are being cheeky messaging you but if you want to sell stuff lower your prices.
It's not cheeky at all. How many more times are we going to go through this? If it's something that's sold out on the River Island and Next website but people are still looking for the item, then it's in demand.
LouiseTrees · 17/06/2020 08:26

I can’t not type this, it’s “owed” not “oh’d” in the OP. Back to the question at hand, the person was rude and I’d ignore them I don’t think they will message again.

CarolVordermansArse · 17/06/2020 08:31

You can also block them from messaging you, different setting though.

tectonicplates · 17/06/2020 08:32

People who complain about prices clearly have no idea how much money is swallowed up in seller fees, PayPal fees and postage. Please go to this website: finalfeecalc.co.uk Imagine you're selling something. Type in the price you sold it for, and how much the postage cost you. The website calculator will tell you how much of a profit you'd make, and it's nowhere near what you'd think.

Even if you go to a real life shop, the shop still has to pay rent, staff wages, electricity bills etc.

CarolVordermansArse · 17/06/2020 08:33

Just reply 'Please do not contact me again, Ebay do not permit harrassment, I can sell my property for the price I choose.' and block her from messaging you.

Quarantimespringclean · 17/06/2020 08:34

@EatsShootsAndRuns

This is very true. Don’t get dragged into pointless arguments with ramdomers on the Internet. Not here or on EBay Or anywhere else. Delete and move on.
Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 08:34

@LouiseTrees ah thanks! The DC had me up at 5AM so my brain is not working 😄
