Shocked at the message I have woken up to on eBay this morning -

Are you having a laugh you are asking for what you paid for it. Plus you bought it in last years sale. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!

Like WTF 🤣 what is WRONG with people

AIBU with my reply !

Actually I bought it this year from next for £16
So let me break it down for you Someone pays £15.10 take of postage £2.95 and then PayPal fees 74p and £1 fee to eBay I end up with £10.41 and thats without the fuel to go and post it, so why don’t you get your facts right before messaging people 🙄 I am sick of giving stuff away for a few quid because people think they are oh’d something on here! I don’t pay out my hard earned money to then give clothes away for free to people on eBay, if you don’t want to pay the price for high street brands go to Primark.

MrsToadofToadHall · 17/06/2020 07:48

YANBU but I miss the days you could get decent stuff on ebay for a few quid

Janerains · 17/06/2020 07:48

Please don’t get into an argument online. It’s pointless and ridiculous.

For those posters saying you’ve overpriced it- eBay clothes selling is interesting. You can often get MORE than you originally paid on a high demand item that has since sold out as it is the buyers only opportunity to have the item. Why shouldn’t OP sell the item for a price she is likely to get?

ChangeThePassword · 17/06/2020 07:53

Are we not allowed to buy River Island clothes from NEXT?

You can buy them wherever you like. It's just that some of us clearly didn't know you could. They certainly didn't sell anything other than next stuff when I last ordered from them online, but that was over ten years ago.

KitKat1985 · 17/06/2020 07:53

Well I think your pricing is pretty 'optimistic'. Not many people are going to want to pay £15 for something second hand which was only £16 new to be honest.

But completely rude and unnecessary to message you like that. I wouldn't get into an argument though. Just block and move on.

Russell19 · 17/06/2020 07:54

@CarolVordermansArse 2nd class postage is £3.10 like the OP has calculated

Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 07:55

@MrsToadofToadHall you still can you just have to chose auction and keep watching 😊

OP posts:
Weirdwonders · 17/06/2020 07:55

It doesn’t matter if they or anyone else here thinks it’s overpriced. As you say there’s a point below which its not worth you paying / spending time to pack it up and take it to the post office so i’d rather put it in the charity bag instead. And avoid dealing with the CF when they inevitably demand a refund for some spurious reason.

Maisiecow · 17/06/2020 07:55

@Carol You can still send a small parcel second class via RM if you pay for postage directly through eBay site. Also saves queueing in post office provided parcel will fit in post box.

Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 07:56

@KitKat1985 Yes I forgot to mention in my OP it is brand new with tags

I buy and sell frequently on Ebay, I can't say I've ever felt the need to berate someone over their pricing! If you think an item is expensive, scroll on by and keep looking. Also agree that fees chip away at your proceeds, particularly now that Ebay takes 10% final value fee on your postage costs as well. I did notice someone had written in my feedback once, "needs to halve their prices". It made me laugh but no one was forcing him to buy my items.

I had the reverse situation last week when I bought a pair of Levi's that were listed as immaculate/worn once. When they turned up unwashed with several stains and I contacted the seller, they sent me a very rude set of messages telling me that what did I expect buying an item for £16 that had an rrp of £75. I point out every defect on my listings and wouldn't dream of sending clothing that's been worn and not washed. Eugh.

A friend advised me to use Gumtree so I now list my items on there as well. No selling fees, you can still offer to post and you can receive money from a bank transfer, rather than have to pay PayPal fees, if the buyer is happy to do that.

Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 07:59

@JMG1234 Yes I normally give all of DC clothes away for free on FB but sell BNWT items and give the DC the money either in savings account or to buy a sweet or toy from the shop! I only posted it on eBay because they currently have a max fee of £1, I would normally only list on FB or Shpock x

Silly me should have stuck to FB 🤦🏻‍♀️

Her reply is even better, shaming me because of Covid now saying I should give the money to charity!!

neonjumper · 17/06/2020 08:02

Sounds like sour grapes and a sense of faux outrage.

I sell on eBay all the times and I'm always surprised at how much children's clothes go for . More mo eye for me though.

I recently sold a George dress for £22, I bought it for £18 and wore it once . I started bidding at 99p and buy it now at £6 . If people want to buy it at £22 so be it .

Block that person . I block anyone who is difficult.

Scruffyoak · 17/06/2020 08:02

I have paid more money for things because I like them. Its none of their business!

ChangeThePassword · 17/06/2020 08:03

Yeah, definitely block her, she's not the kind of person you want buying your stuff anyway!

Heatherj96 · 17/06/2020 08:04

How do I block? Never had this before!

OP posts:
Rebelwithallthecause · 17/06/2020 08:05

Sometimes I’ve knowingly paid more than the price it was originally sold for in the shops because I need tat item and I can’t buy it from the shops anymore

Other times it’s possible to get things at far reduced prices (I just picked up a hardly used Snuzpod for 1/3 of what it cost new)

Dinocan · 17/06/2020 08:05

You’re being cheeky trying to sell stuff on for the same price you bought it. It doesn’t sound like a specialist or rare item. They are being cheeky messaging you but if you want to sell stuff lower your prices.

Rebelwithallthecause · 17/06/2020 08:05

I’m not too sure you can block on eBay

Fieldofgreycorn · 17/06/2020 08:06

I wouldn’t message you about it either.

But I once tried to find an eBay reseller to sell off some of my old clothes. They all said it’s only worth it if they are designer/ expensive items as people will only pay about £2 to £5 for high street secondhand clothes on eBay and I was better off doing it myself. AKA it’s often not worth it unless you’re selling a big pile.

CarolVordermansArse · 17/06/2020 08:06

take of postage £2.95 and then PayPal fees 74p (from the OP)

@Russell19 My postage costs £3.10 (as per your post) but I wondered how the OP sends it for £2.95 as I don't use online posting but have been thinking about it.

@Maisiecow thank you, that is what I was wondering. Need to sort the printer out so I can use it though.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 17/06/2020 08:07

BTW I don't know what postage service you use but with RM you only get large letter for that price now

Small parcel up to 2kg if you buy postage online is £2.95 Smile

bloodyhellsbellsx · 17/06/2020 08:09

Can’t believe someone actually took time out of their day to message you that! What a loser! If an item is too expensive for your liking just scroll past 😂

CarolVordermansArse · 17/06/2020 08:10

In your 'My Ebay' there is a setting for buyer preferences. It is not as easy to find as it used to be but you can block from there. If you can't find it you can get it via the help pages if you type it in.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 17/06/2020 08:11

I’m not too sure you can block on eBay

Yes you can.

So do people buy things just to sell them on? If something is unworn, what does that mean - that it was especially bought to sell? *novice
