Shocked at the message I have woken up to on eBay this morning -

Are you having a laugh you are asking for what you paid for it. Plus you bought it in last years sale. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!

Like WTF 🤣 what is WRONG with people

AIBU with my reply !

Actually I bought it this year from next for £16
So let me break it down for you Someone pays £15.10 take of postage £2.95 and then PayPal fees 74p and £1 fee to eBay I end up with £10.41 and thats without the fuel to go and post it, so why don’t you get your facts right before messaging people 🙄 I am sick of giving stuff away for a few quid because people think they are oh’d something on here! I don’t pay out my hard earned money to then give clothes away for free to people on eBay, if you don’t want to pay the price for high street brands go to Primark.

I particularly love the buyers who tell me they can buy the item cheaper elsewhere. Please do and then don't bother me.

dobbleby · 17/06/2020 08:40

It doesn't matter if you paid £1 for it & want to sell it for £100 no one is forced to buy it.

Have some people on this thread never heard of things being sold on eBay for double or triple their RRP as something is desirable. Or stuff bought at car boot sales for £2 being sold for ££££.

UnfinishedSymphon · 17/06/2020 08:42

I sold a computer desk last week, had been using it for 3 months and sold it for exactly what I paid for it. I don't think that's cheeky if someone is willing to pay it

ohoneohtwo · 17/06/2020 08:42

You can price as you please, it's up to people whether they buy or not, but why on earth would you waste your time responding to that mail? Just ignore it and get on with your day Confused

TheGlaikitRambler · 17/06/2020 08:43

@LouiseTrees

I can’t not type this, it’s “owed” not “oh’d” in the OP. Back to the question at hand, the person was rude and I’d ignore them I don’t think they will message again.
Thank you for doing this, it was really bothering me too!
dobbleby · 17/06/2020 08:43

I sold a pair of trainers that were too small for me & outside of the return date for £100, paid £60. About 6 people were bidding on them.

dottiedodah · 17/06/2020 08:46

TBH with lockdown ,and the shops being shut up until a couple of days ago EBAY has become more expensive recently ,so I dont think YABU at all .I would not message someone ,its just pointless and rude!

dobbleby · 17/06/2020 08:46

You’re being cheeky trying to sell stuff on for the same price you bought it.

🤦🏼‍♀️

I've bought plenty of things on eBay that were more expensive than the RRP. But I really wanted it & it was sold out. No one put a gun to my head!

Bakeachocolatecaketoday · 17/06/2020 08:46

I've sold many items for more than I paid, it's called business....it's how you end up with more money than you started with....

Don't engage, just block. I doubt they are "real" they just want online interaction.

Bakeachocolatecaketoday · 17/06/2020 08:49

I do sometimes wonder where peoples heads are when they think these things....

I would say 90-95% on eBay is being sold for a profit.... Business sellers account for a large proportion of the sales. The rest is people turning over second hand items, some bought new and some used, others sold for profit.

dobbleby · 17/06/2020 08:51

Someone on eBay bought a Primark dress from me & then sold it her "eBay" shop for double. Do I care? No good for her.

TrickyKid · 17/06/2020 08:53

They're being ridiculous but I think you're also unrealistic about selling a used next item at £10 when it only cost £16 new. There's all sorts of idiots on eBay, I wouldn't have bothered replying. You sound equally as unreasonable as them

tectonicplates · 17/06/2020 08:57

It isn't used, it's brand new with tags! I wish people would read the whole thread before commenting.
GlummyMcGlummerson · 17/06/2020 08:57

In fairness OP if something is second hand, unless it's a very highly sought after or valuable item, it should cost half what it does in the shops. The delusion of some people can just be as astounding as the cheek of others

tectonicplates · 17/06/2020 09:00

Fine, but actually I would argue that if resellers are buying from you, your prices are quite low and you could even consider putting your price up a bit next time.
cozycat1 · 17/06/2020 09:00

TrickyKid et al. Read the flipping post. It is brand new and from River Island, purchased through Next.

People can try and sell on ebay for any price they care to. It is not cheeky to try and make money. That is the whole point!!!, It is not unrealistic to try and sell for more you paid even if its second hand.

OP is not been unreasonable. It is an AUCTION site. Buyers are free to bid of their own accord or can scroll on through. Only idiots would take the time to comment on a listing price. Ignore and block them.

baubled · 17/06/2020 09:00

Selling RI kids clothes for £10 instead of £16 BNWT is a bargain for many.

OP I would tell her where to stick her self at this point

CHIRIBAYA · 17/06/2020 09:02

'I would never buy something brand new for £15.10 that you can get brand new for £16.00'

I'm choking on my breakfast here.

purplelila2 · 17/06/2020 09:04

Nope wouldnt pay that for a second hand item of child's clothing from Ebay .
YABU

SWnewstart · 17/06/2020 09:05

Just joined the thread - amazed at how some people STILL think OP is selling something "used". It's really not difficult to skim a few pages if you're unsure sure and can''t follow the discussion Smile

tectonicplates · 17/06/2020 09:08

Oh it "should", should it?

Billben · 17/06/2020 09:11

You’re being cheeky trying to sell stuff on for the same price you bought it. It doesn’t sound like a specialist or rare item. They are being cheeky messaging you but if you want to sell stuff lower your prices.

It’s not specialist, but it is rare. Because IT’S OUT OF STOCK!!!!
Oh, and it’s also BRAND NEW.

hoodathunkit · 17/06/2020 09:12

There was a green and white stripey dress from a supermarket that cost under £30 new but that was fetching £100+ on ebay after a celebrity (can't remember which one) was photographed wearing it at a festival.

This does happen occasionally and the fact is that the value of a thing lies in what people want to pay for it and is unrelated to what you paid for it.

You can charge whatever you like for something and people can choose to buy it or not

BobbieDraper · 17/06/2020 09:12

I'm not normally a spelling and grammar complainer but I've never ever seen someone spell with the word owed like oh'd. That has the to be a first.

Billben · 17/06/2020 09:13

'I would never buy something brand new for £15.10 that you can get brand new for £16.00'

😂🤣😂 Yes, you can get it for whatever price, IF it is still being sold in the shops. Which it isn’t 😂
