Why are ASDA normalising paedophilia and Child Abuse?

Sunkisses · 16/06/2020 08:02

Is it OK for ASDA to send parents emails linking to an organisation that normalises paedophilia with red flag phrases such as "love has no age", and recommending books for children that contain explicit descriptions of child sex abuse? Why are they doing this? Are ASDA experts in home schooling and safeguarding? More details in this excellent thread by Safe Schools Alliance: twitter.com/SafeSchools_UK/status/1272638132589035520

That response is utterly pathetic.... and nowhere near good enough.
It seems that having a woke badge is more important....the fight continues.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 16/06/2020 16:53

Someone should forward that email reply to the news desk of various tabloids. The Mirror is slightly less icky but the Mail has the biggest reach.

IrmaFayLear · 16/06/2020 16:54

I wonder if the board members would be happy with their children being exposed to this stuff?

The race to appear non-judgemental is making people lose all perspective and causing them to suppress their own moral compass in case it results in the dreaded accusation of bigotry.

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/06/2020 16:57

Well that reply was bollocks

doublehalo · 16/06/2020 16:58

Ah, so it's a matter of interpretation!! Silly women!

I interpret that Asda's Executive Board is mostly white men.

Celebrate diversity?? Give me a break.

Ninkanink · 16/06/2020 16:59

Moral bankruptcy in the extreme.

Shame on you.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 16/06/2020 17:02

Why the fuck can't ASDA concentrate on selling baked beans and keep their beaks out of this bullshit? Also treating their staff properly and having reasonable working contracts.

SerenityNowwwww · 16/06/2020 17:04

NYCDreaming - well that’s not an apology.

Bla bla last inclusivity...bla bla LGBT...Sorry you are offended... not gonna apologise (note to self ‘sack agency’)

PickAChew · 16/06/2020 17:07

Interpreted differently? Crikey.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 16/06/2020 17:08

@PickAChew

Interpreted differently? Crikey.
‘You say potato, I say paedophilia’
Ninkanink · 16/06/2020 17:09

I would like ASDA and their ‘charity partner’ to explain their interpretation of that text and set out clearly how it would ever appropriate for children to read.

In detail.

022828MAN · 16/06/2020 17:09

Why is this fucked up shit always cropping up alongside LGBT+ rights?! If I was part of the LGBT community I'd be horrified!!

ProfessorSlocombe · 16/06/2020 17:10

‘You say potato, I say paedophilia’

I think you are confusing your pies

Ninkanink · 16/06/2020 17:10

Many of them are. They, too, are shouted down for ‘bigotry’ ‘hate’ and ‘phobia.’

Roseburn · 16/06/2020 17:11

Asda Executive Relations

Who is, or are, Asda Executive Relations?
Is it one person or a team?

I can't find them on the website.

220FlashCars · 16/06/2020 17:11

We will work with Diversity Role Models to make sure any future content that we share is clear and not open to misinterpretation.

Wow they are planning more projects with this organisation? OMG.

JackiFazaki · 16/06/2020 17:11

I find it weird that Asda's response to a corporate fuckup on this scale - promoting "love has no age limit" to primary school children nationwide - was to sneakily edit the offending lines, rather than to review the partnership, sack some team members, and issue a heartfelt apology

I emailed ASDA this morning. No reply, no acknowledgement, but it has been received.

The edit and attempt to clean up the PDF appears to have happened some hours after emails started going in.

So they will try and clean up their paedo supporting literature, but they can't reply to emails, not even to say " we are investigating.".

NYCDreaming · 16/06/2020 17:14

Yes I would imagine that it's a copy and paste job - there was no addressing of the specific concerns that I raised. And it has no signature, just Asda Executive Relations.

StealthNinjaMum · 16/06/2020 17:15

I seem to be repeating myself a lot with this sentence. Here I go again.

Dear Asda

I will not be buying from you again. You exist to sell me food not push a harmful woke agenda at me and my children. I would like an acknowledgement of your fuckup and an apology.

NYCDreaming · 16/06/2020 17:16

I can't believe that they've gone for the line of "oh I'm sorry you misinterpreted it". Which bit did I misinterpret? The "Love has no age limit" slogan aimed at seven year olds, or the graphic description of child abuse?

Ninkanink · 16/06/2020 17:19

And don’t forget that ‘interpretation’ of the relevant text. I’m extremely interested in hearing the views of your leadership on that.

In detail. With direct ownership taken for all implications of it.

Corporations like ASDA, Marks and Spencer, John Lewis (and countless others) and those at their helm need to start being taken to task for the shit they’re swimming in.

HeedNotTheRabble · 16/06/2020 17:20

I had made my peace with the 'ask me my pronouns' badge thing as simply unnecessary and indulgent but THIS is downright dangerous.

FFS ASDA! I'll miss your clothes and Peppa pig pull ups, but goodbye.

ProfessorSlocombe · 16/06/2020 17:27

Yes I would imagine that it's a copy and paste job - there was no addressing of the specific concerns that I raised. And it has no signature, just Asda Executive Relations.

In another life, I saw AI bots being trained to respond to customer complaints. (The budget for that project dwarfed he budget for staff training). No idea where we are now, but they were talking (this is over a decade ago) about aiming to ensure that 70% of queries replied to were not followed up by the customer. You might say "fobbed off", but I couldn't possibly comment.

NYCDreaming · 16/06/2020 17:36

I have replied to the email so hopefully it will be passed to a real human this time!

justanotherneighinparadise · 16/06/2020 17:37

Why out of all the charities that exist in the world have you affiliated yourselves with this one? Honestly I’m really interested.
