Why are ASDA normalising paedophilia and Child Abuse?

Sunkisses · 16/06/2020 08:02

Is it OK for ASDA to send parents emails linking to an organisation that normalises paedophilia with red flag phrases such as "love has no age", and recommending books for children that contain explicit descriptions of child sex abuse? Why are they doing this? Are ASDA experts in home schooling and safeguarding? More details in this excellent thread by Safe Schools Alliance: twitter.com/SafeSchools_UK/status/1272638132589035520

@ProfessorSlocombe

‘You say potato, I say paedophilia’

I think you are confusing your pies

'ask me my pronouns' badge? I don't need someone's pronouns when complaining to them that they have yet again failed to deliver a full online order

ProfessorSlocombe · 16/06/2020 17:42

I have replied to the email so hopefully it will be passed to a real human this time!

Oh definitely - to see why the bot reply didn't work. How else does training work ?

(I don't know if ASDA use bots or not, but it's a very US driven thing ...)

You might get a reply saying "How could we have dealt with your question better ?" - in case anyone was in any doubt as to where that data goes ....

justanotherneighinparadise · 16/06/2020 17:45

I suspect us silly old women complaining will hold little weight. What we need to do is get the menz to have a moan. Then we might get a sensible response.

022828MAN · 16/06/2020 17:45

With the Body Shop suddenly anatomy and physiology experts, and now ASDA teachers of the year I'm not going to have anywhere left to shop!

SpilltheTea · 16/06/2020 17:47

Supermarkets should stick to selling food instead of giving shit educational advice. It's just another 'Look at me, I'm so diverse' PR mission.

Well my dh was outraged so maybe I should get him to write. He might get an answer

Bottom line is you need to cost them money. One way or another. Bearing in mind they'll just extract that from their staff (well the lowest paid ones) and make sure you know it.

There's a reason you never learn this stuff at school.

220FlashCars · 16/06/2020 17:53

Yeah, Asda board doesn't look very diverse, does it? All 7 members are white 5 men 2 women no BAME members but maybe some are LGBT, ho knows.

Does anyone know if they have distributed packs about George Floyd and BLM?

Floopsy · 16/06/2020 17:58

In 2010 Asda were criticised for sexualising children with their clothing ranges. They asked Mumsnet users for help identifying which clothes were suitable for sale.

What the fuck has happened Asda? Is this coming from Walmart?

How incredibly depressing.
occa · 16/06/2020 18:08

Ohhhhhh, so it's our fault for 'misinterpreting' it.

Right, got it.

So us silly women should just give our heads a wobble then sit down and shut up now, should we?

Yeah I don't think I will thanks, ASDA, you absolute cretins.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 16/06/2020 18:08

Fucking hell.

Asda paid an org a hundred grand to take paedophila propaganda into British schools!

Ninkanink · 16/06/2020 18:10

Let’s not forget the ‘charity partner’ (special interest group?) in all this.

I’d like to hear a reasoned response from them, with a detailed justification of their material.

DaffyDaffy · 16/06/2020 18:12

I've read through the whole thread in disbelief.

Thanks to everyone who is expressing their dismay at this. Sometimes I feel like it's just me.

What are we actually going to do? I mean, if this is normal... I just feel so depressed at the idea of my kids being taught this stuff, them not being able to bank on a single-sex space etc. Do I have to consider homeschooling/off grid living?

This can't be what the majority think is okay, can it?

Sandybval · 16/06/2020 18:13

I know @DaffyDaffy, I feel the same way but not sure what to do.

DaffyDaffy · 16/06/2020 18:15

@Sandybval Thanks

I'm not usually a despairer, but genuinely floored by this.

Ninkanink · 16/06/2020 18:15

No. The vast majority don’t think anything of the sort.

Everyone knows right from wrong. Everyone knows truth from fiction.

But people are frightened, most probably with good reason.

I’m not frightened. I’ve got nothing to lose.

I know exactly where my line is.

And they can’t eradicate us all.

StripesWaterBlue · 16/06/2020 18:26

It seems that Asda didn't just mistakenly share inappropriate resources with minors by recommending a book that contains graphic descriptions of child sex abuse as well as validating said abuse and claiming that love has no age limit. They actually sponsor the making of said resources and are responsible for this questionable material to be distributed to schools. Right.

I hope this will make suitable headlines.

In the meantime, email [email protected] if CEO Roger is a bit busy.

Everyone knows right from wrong.

Not everyone agrees on what is 'right' or 'wrong' though, as this thread demonstrates.

Sunkisses · 16/06/2020 18:27

@DaffyDaffy. What we - every parent - should do is being extremely proactive in your children's school(s). All of us should be finding out:

  1. WHO is delivering training and materials in school
  2. WHAT exactly is being taught under RSE and PSHE (ask to see the lesson plans etc)

Safe Schools Alliance UK have loads of superb resources on their website, with template letters etc. safeschoolsallianceuk.net

I think most parents would be absolutely horrified if they found out all the propaganda that is going into schools. Some of the organisations that have jumped on the RSE gravy train are seriously - really seriously - dodgy.

Isn't it fascinating how people come to the thread to tell people off for noticing inexcusable and wholly unacceptable safeguarding breaches

We see them, over and over again on fwr. They keep coming back to get their arses handed to them.
Says a lot about someone who cannot see (or does not want to see)the grooming being done.

Roseburn · 16/06/2020 18:27

Cant be said loud enough.

Unbelievable.

Due diligence ASDA, due diligence.

Ninkanink · 16/06/2020 18:32

Everyone in the real world, and who isn’t directly involved in seriously dodgy thinking or behaviour, knows right from wrong.
