areallthenamesusedup · 15/06/2020 13:47

I am listening to the news today and there is much talk about the year 10's and years 12's being back at school. No they are not. My Yr 12 son has 3 hours scheduled between now and the end of term.....not 3 hours/day, not 3 hours/week.....3 hours till mid July!

Is it just our school?

Does anyone know when the next big Education update is?

My county has stopped us being able to open for 10s and 12s until next week. That's not a lot of time to be able to get much teaching for no more than 25% of them at a time.

Year 10's in 2 groups, so 2 days per group per week. English, Maths and Science only. In small bubbles of 15. We have about 75% of the year group in.

Year 12 - too difficult to bubble students due to options. So some live lessons on Teams each week.

My dd’s school is google meet live video lessons well being and subject lessons only for year ten. Only vulnerable/key worker kids in school until September at the earliest.

Also year 12.

I have a year 12 all lessons are live on Microsoft Teams which are going well. My DD has homework all marked with feedback and timed assignments. No planned face to face meetings this term. School are planning on a September return.

My DD is lucky that her school (private) is doing everything they can in the circumstance. However,
lots of year 12's and 10's are at a huge disadvantage. It must be a real worry for them and their parents.

Our schools y10/12 are only going in if they've been deemed to be struggling.
Not great as they'll be those that are academically doing well but emotionally and socially struggling. Not all children will seek help.

This! DD is getting nothing apart from a Google Meet with HOY as a group. Only those not engaging are going in, she has completed all her work set so is deemed as doing well, she has struggled so much and was desperate to go back in some form.

School I work in is putting on a great effort with all subjects being taught in some way across the next 6 weeks.

I'm bloody furious and cannot believe this is not in the press more widely.

My DD year 10 has a half hour face to face this week, haven't heard if there will be anymore. Building work in school means they can't cover year tens being in as a year group with current rules, so no chance of whole school in September, who knows what will happen.

DS is year 12, college won't be back until September. He's losing motivation big time and I can't see how A levels are going to work for him next year now.

My year 12 is in for 2 hours this week and I think that's it.

I’m very surprised as I thought my foster son’s school was having them back full time but I’ve just checked and it’s only once a week for about 3 hours.

I think a bit more should be done about getting older kids back to school. Round my way there are big groups of them meeting up every day to play football or just hang out together. As they’re all mixing now anyway I think they might as well be at school.

DD1 has three full days between now and July. Woo hoo Hmm

WorraLiberty · 15/06/2020 14:37

My year 12 DS isn't back until September.

The other half of his year group are back now. I don't know if it's because he's ahead of his work or not.

I mean he is, but I don't know if that's the reason.

We’ve got kids in all day!

Ours are getting a few hours a week at school but no teaching, can just access online learning then.

Todayisanewday75 · 15/06/2020 14:38

My Y10 was offered one day a week to do the same online learning as at home, supervised by one adult. No buses and none of his friends were going so didn’t seem worth it.

My year 12 is getting an hour and 40 minutes once a week. With a teacher but not necessarily a teacher who teaches any of her subjects Angry

CallmeAngelina · 15/06/2020 14:39

But isn't this what Boris said right from the start? That Yrs 10 and 12 would have "some" face-to-face time with their teachers before the end of term?

Report
FreakStar · 15/06/2020 14:39

Yep, just been explaining to everyone that keeps asking if my Y10 dd is glad to be back at school? Hmm

She's been offered 2 days this half term, one this week and one in July.

Report
roseapothecary · 15/06/2020 14:39

Our y10 has been divided into 4 and each group is coming in once a week for 4h. Y9 on the other day.

Report
roseapothecary · 15/06/2020 14:41

The y10s can't come in more days as you are only allowed a quarter of a year in at a time

Report
FreakStar · 15/06/2020 14:41

@CallmeAngelina - it is what Boris said- some time with teachers, the OP is pointing out that it's being reported on the news as if all Y10s and 12s are back full time though!

My year 10 dd is going back for ONE morning per week from Wednesday ! My ds ( year 12 ) has nothing.

Hagisonthehill · 15/06/2020 14:44

My DDS year 12 were going back a day each.Jowever there is no transport at all.I could take her in but they want all children to be able to attend on 6 days so they could time table everyone in.Most can't go .I can take her on any one of three of the available dates but not all 6,they won't let her go on the basis that it will complicate things so She has to have a one hour video call.
God knows what happens in September.

Report
woodpigeons · 15/06/2020 14:48
