I am listening to the news today and there is much talk about the year 10's and years 12's being back at school. No they are not. My Yr 12 son has 3 hours scheduled between now and the end of term.....not 3 hours/day, not 3 hours/week.....3 hours till mid July!

Is it just our school?

My y10 has nothing. No face to face offered from school.

At our English state comprehensive all teaching for Y10 and Y12 between remains online apart from for those who don't have adequate IT at home who will be invited into school. Each GCSE subject will have one live lesson a week on MS Teams, plus set work (this is an vast improvement in terms of contact time).
Only practical subjects eg art, drama will have any actual "in person" contact - one or two 60 min sessions over the last month of term.
There has been no explanation why it's been arranged this way, except that a lot of the pupil travel a fair distance on public transport to get there, so perhaps uptake for actually coming in was low?
@chocolateequinox I have done my best to home school and work full time, but I'm terribly guilty I can't give 100% in either. I think some people should be ashamed to not want children to go back full time. Just because you can, it doesn't mean other families and children should be deprived of education.
So you have done your best, so have the teachers. They have done their best within the limitations placed on them by the government.

Year 10's at my DDs school are back today..they are in bubbles in different areas of the school. As far as I know they are in full time, but not sure how they are working the teaching aspect.

I don’t know how that’s possible. The guidance states only 25% of a cohort can go back. The guidance is obviously ridiculous - the model you describe seems sensible - but schools aren’t ‘allowed’ to have all year 10s back in full time.

It is beyond ridiculous. This government, the teacher's union, schools, headteachers have collectively failed our children. Just re-open the schools, for goodness sake.

It is a shame that you are blaming everyone for the perceived failure of the government. Your child's schools, and your child's school's HT.

As for the unions they are their to protect their members.

Our year 10s are back one short day per week. We're shortening it by removing non exam subjects (and practical work). We are setting a full week of work including (not live) online lessons. The work starts on the day that child is in, so we can set them off for the week. We only had half the number we wanted in today though Sad

Fake news, definitely fake news. My son is in preschool of a state nursery. All the private nurseries have re-opened, but his state school has no plan to have the nursery children back before September. Reception won't be back until 22nd June. This is despite government saying all preschool, Reception, Year 1 should be back on 1st June.

It is beyond ridiculous. This government, the teacher's union, schools, headteachers have collectively failed our children. Just re-open the schools, for goodness sake.

And what have you failed your children at then? @ALmond2.

I am soo worried about the disparity of set work / teaching and contact time between schools, even in the same school between different subjects. How are the students who have not had full time tables ever going to catch up on that ?

Y10 / 12 alternate weeks here from this week for 4 weeks 3 x 1/2 days per week so total of 3 full days per year group until end of term.
More than some schools, less than others - that’s a problem.

I am genuinely very concerned. This needs to be addressed.

Our Yr 10s are doing 1 day per week. That day will include only Maths, English , Science.

Yr 12s are doing 1 day per subject between now and the end of term so just 3 days in total for most. 4 days if they have a 4th subject.

Same her. DS is in year 12 and is having the sum total of zero hours at school before September 😡☹️

My DD was in for four hours today, is in again for four hours on Thursday and Friday and then 3 x 4 hours each week for the next 3 weeks.
Two periods a day are designated travelling time for the year 10s (set periods for all year 10 students) and outside of those two periods there will be live lessons (for the subjects not taught in person) or homework (for the subjects taught in person).

Our high school seem to be in the minority. The way They are reopening for year 10 Is to split the year in to 4 groups and each group go in one day a week. Each group is split further in to groups of 10 and taught English, Maths And science, not by their normal teachers, but By a subject teacher for each lesson. No options will be taught. it sounds like our year 10s have got it far better than some across the country.

Yeah year 10s and 12s will not be in full time as the guidelines only allow for a quarter of the cohort to be in the building at any one time. So we have each child in year 10 at our school has one day a week, and children who need extra support have 2. The days will focus on teaching new stuff for maths and english. and online learning for other subjects as well a wellbeing/citizenship lesson to discuss topics such as bereavement, careers and mental health.
The offer for individual schools will be different so I can only speak for my school.

They say year ones are back along with reception and Year 6, they are bloody not at our school. We have been told that they have too many key worker children so can not accommodate them! I wonder how many other schools are the same!

My year 10 is in for the next week and a half full time and then 1.5 days a week for the rest of term. They have said they can only have 25% of the year group in at once.

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath(cool name, btw!), exactly!

I agree that the government don't have a clue yet. But they'd better think of something very soon... I can't see how exams can go ahead as planned next year, if schools are only able to offer part-time provision from September. If we need another lockdown in late Autumn/Winter, definitely not.
I'm not saying that will happen, but I feel it's important to think it might, and have a plan in place.
