Yes we can book hair appointments, nail appointments and banish the roots in a matter of weeks. We can shop today!! We are counting down the days to hotels, restaurants and bars opening. We are breaking out.

We have turned a corner in England people!!

The lockdown is ending at long last - so what are you doing today?

I was working but if I hadn't been I would have been at home as usual. I have literally zero interest in shopping especially with all the queues. If I need anything I'll shop online. I think it's premature to say "it's over". I don't think lockdown is ending, I think some rules are being relaxed that's all.

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 20:56

*Am also slightly bewildered by how many people are thrilled out of their minds to go to the bloody shops. I mean ... Why? Of all the things I've missed during lockdown wandering aimlessly round the town centre is NOT one of them. Still each to their own I suppose...

Now when the pubs reopen; travel restrictions are lifted; and all the cancelled gigs I had booked have new dates, then I'll be a very happy bunny. But the privilege of being able to buy some leggings in person instead of online isn't really doing it for me tbh.*

Ok, if you like it it's ok! But you can't understand someone else's likes?

Orangeblossom78 · 15/06/2020 20:56

My friend's shielding, she has MS and has no mobility and has a scooter, sadly she is unable to go for walks at all.

She lives alone, no support at all. She still manages to get out to the park as she walks her dog twice a day, she goes at quiet times..

there are ways if you try.

CruCru · 15/06/2020 20:57

In fairness, I don’t think the OP was wandering aimlessly round the shops. She bought shoes for her children.

Thats the whole point! Everyone is different. Many people wouldnt want your ideal gigs/pubs at all but they have the right to do something that they enjoy without people looking down on them and hinting that thier choice is better.

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 20:59

So why do t you avoid the 3/4 people on the pavement by going at quiet times @Hearhoovesthinkzebras?

BamboozledandBefuddled · 15/06/2020 21:02

@CruCru

But she enjoyed it!! That's what's caused all the uproar. Buying shoes for children might be essential (the jury's still out) but only if you wallow in misery while shopping!

@pigeon999 I'm really pleased you had such a lovely day Smile And thank you for your efforts in keeping this thread as upbeat and positive as posible, in spite of a lot of opposition Flowers

Does she go out or not then?

I assume she uses her mobility scooter @Sandybval, as she can't walk? She gets out on that?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 15/06/2020 21:09

understandmenow

Yes, he drives but under shielding guidelines you have to stay two metres apart and not be in rooms together at the same time - how can we be in a car together and conform to the guidelines?

Orangeblossom78

Why is it difficult to understand? When I'm passing another pedestrian I need to maintain a distance of six feet. If two people are walking towards me, next to each other, then there isn't room for the two of them to walk past me with a six foot space between them and me. This is on normal pavements, not a single file track.

forgetthehousework

We can both drive.

I'm currently unable to drive for medical reasons and because of shielding requirements I can't be in the car with him.

@understandmenow we can go out once a day for walks. I'm not, after speaking to my consultant

I suspect if you said to your consultant.

'I want to go out, would that be a bad idea?' You would get a different response. S/he is unlikely to say 'You should go out' because if you were the 1 in 1 million (ish) who then caught it you could blame them. If you phrased it 'I really want to go out, would it be very dangerous?' you are more likely to get an idea of how risky or not it is as the 'direction' comes from you

lovemelongtime · 15/06/2020 21:13

Glad you feel positive but what's wrong with staying safe at home and buying on the internet. Don't get me wrong I can't wait to get out but not while people still dying.

daisyooops · 15/06/2020 21:14

Good for you. When I am at work daily putting myself at risk I don't do it so selfish people like you can go out shopping. Are you always this inconsiderate? Biscuit

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 15/06/2020 21:15

So why do t you avoid the 3/4 people on the pavement by going at quiet times

Because that would mean me getting up and out by 6am and right now I can't face making my days any longer than they currently are. As it is I go to bed by 8pm just to end another day. The thought of getting up at 6am, to be back at home by 7am to sit and stare at four walls for the next thirteen hours would just about put the tin lid on it

UmbrellaHat · 15/06/2020 21:16

*the virus is still out there.

So are SARS, and MERS, and ebola. It's reasonably probable that Covid-19 will be "out there" for the rest of all our lives. What then? Cower at home forever? We're all dying; some of us want to live first.*

Well said

What a lovely way to consider your patients or clients as 'selfish' to participating in a perfectly legal, permitted and normal activitiy. Are you always this judgemental and sneering?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/06/2020 21:18

@daisyooops it's not selfish or inconsiderate to go shopping. Shops are reopened today, we are allowed to go to them, end of.

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 21:18

Thought there would be this sort of reason! Your pavements are too busy at 7am......

You could also go for a walk at 7pm when it's quiet would extend your days and mean you don't need to go to bed at 8?

I presume that's not an option either?

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 21:20

Yeah let's all lock ourselves up and whip ourselves because you're working? Are you always so judgemental? Biscuit

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 21:22

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has posted on the thread before it reaches the limit, and to the little rays of sunshine that stood in my corner, and even the ones that don't. It is okay to be in different places.

I hope we will all will be out soon, hooves included, and all of us getting back to our version of normal. God bless Wine Flowers

Yes they are busy then, commuters walking to the station. And evenings are still busy - I'm in bed now and there are still kids playing in the street and I can hear groups of people talking. So I would have to wait until about now to go out for a walk. And as I've said, I'm in bed charging up a medical device that I have and thinking "thank god another day is over" but don't let that stop the bullying eh.
HesterShaw1 · 15/06/2020 21:22

A walk at 8pm therefore seems like a sensible option seeing as it's light until nearly 10? That would mean you didn't have to go to bed so early. Why don't you give it a try?

Are you a public sector worker?

If so you’d better be damn glad people go out shopping.
