Yes we can book hair appointments, nail appointments and banish the roots in a matter of weeks. We can shop today!! We are counting down the days to hotels, restaurants and bars opening. We are breaking out.

We have turned a corner in England people!!

The lockdown is ending at long last - so what are you doing today?

DisobedientHamster · 15/06/2020 18:55

Just back from emptying my bank account and stuffing envelopes of cash through the letter slots of the shielding (I added a note that I was wearing gloves and had sanitised all the dosh). Now I'm going to have to shop in Primark because all I can afford are £2 tshirts.

Yes thanks. I read everything that you put. But it's all irrelevant - data that is two weeks out of date is irrelevant. You only need to look at how quickly the number of deaths shot up at the beginning of all of this.

To do my own risk assessment, to decide that I'll ignore government advice, I need specific data relevant to my situation, so rate of infections in the small location where I live and work. Knowing that the rate across London is 1:3000 is one risk. Knowing that in your area specifically there's a breakout and the rate is 1:100 is a completely different risk. That's why track and trace is needed.

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 18:56

Well lemonade You have missed all the fun! Seriously you have - it makes for compelling reading. As the thread wore on some rays of sunshine joined the fray (thank goodness)

I haven't got this far by being a shrinking bloody violet, if my dc need shoes and the ingredients for slime then I am hardly going to let them walk around barefoot. Or perhaps that is a thing now along with the badger roots, scarecrow hair and wine dependency.

I wouldn't mind but everyone was there!! The whole bloody county and its dog were all there today. Babies, toddlers, families, teens and grannies that are most definitely in the at risk bracket were busy shuffling along looking overjoyed to be part of life again. I am sorry that not everyone can go just yet, but your time will come.

Next time I will try and remember to deliver luxury goods to the shielding. My bad.

Nah, I'm not letting the government put me on an electronic lead. They can shove track and trash where the sun don't shine.

Unless you all cause a second peak before the rest of us even get a chance to go for a walk eh? Still, not to worry as long as you had a lovely day. Perhaps ask your friend what she thinks about it.

And there we have it.
Hobnobswantshernameback · 15/06/2020 19:01

Oh god

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 19:02

So we have one luxury hamper coming up for queen
batchelors cup-a-soups and a few freshly culled pheasants for music I am not sure she is shielding, but here to help!

Anyone else for luxury goods? We haven't got all day you know, I am bound to be struck down by lightening any minute now, so be quick.

OP posts:
DisobedientHamster · 15/06/2020 19:05

And there we have it.

I don't have a mobile, anyhow, but a little thoughtfulness goes a long way so if anyone is willing to buy me one and boost the economy at the same time, PM me Grin.

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 19:05

Oh shit disobedient you need to change your name to obedient hamster and follow the god damn track and trace even though it doesn't actually work. I can hardly believe you have said such a thing Grin

You only need to look at how quickly the number of deaths shot up at the beginning of all of this.

But hearhooves, that's the nature of pandemics, from what I can gather. It seems likely, doesn't it, that far from arriving suddenly in the UK and cases immediately rocketing, that the virus was around earlier than people realised, and was creeping round the country gradually gaining traction in communities. And after the peak of infection was reached back in March, peak deaths followed 3 or so weeks later and they have been coming down since then. This has been mirrored across other countries, a few contained outbreaks here and there notwithstanding. Why would it behave so different in the UK? Each country has dealt with things a little differently, yet broadly the pattern is the same.

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 19:06

Phone is now on the list too, all hamsters need to be on track and trace.

DisobedientHamster · 15/06/2020 19:07

Absolutely! The world needs to know just how cute we, the Syrian hamsters of this world, are.

To add a caveat, I'm not saying that there wasn't a massive influx from other countries in February and March.
PickAChew · 15/06/2020 19:11

For all the stats and probabilities, I would conclude that you're more likely to be run over in the car park.

ThatLibraryMiss · 15/06/2020 19:11

Hooves, did you follow the link to the out-of-date data and find out what the risk is in your area? Multiply it by a sufficiently large number to satisfy your sense of doom for the number of deaths shooting up since then and you can arrive at a worse-case scenario. I came up with one chance in 19,157 for the worst borough in London.

NB: I see no case whatsoever for thinking that the number of cases actually is going up, but I know you want to think it will.

I'm pretty sure that you won't be content until either everyone else is as confined and miserable as you are or you consider there to be no risk at all. But nothing will ever be risk-free. Walking down the road carries a risk, from a random lightning strike, a meteor, an out-of-control car, a drive-by shooting, a loose scaffolding plank plummeting to the ground, a toilet seat falling out of a plane... And with that, Madam, I'll leave you to this link and your dementing.

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 19:12

I think I would rather be run over in the car park to be fair pick if thats okay? Grin

Still waiting on all those huge 'spikes' forecast every couple of weeks so i wouldn't hold your breath. The chance of catching it from passing someone for 3 seconds outside is such a miniscule number its hardly there at all. But of course so many people are too busy rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of a spike or 2nd wave this fact is incobsequential.

Yep Pigeon999 had a lovely day so did thousands of other people get over yourself.

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 19:13

I am sure someone on here will help us out with that

OP posts:
GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 15/06/2020 19:13

@pigeon999 have you and your family been tested? There's no need to be so bitchy about everyone else voicing caution just because you wanted to go out and 'go shopping'.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 15/06/2020 19:13

@ThatLibraryMiss
Excellent link
Sums the poster up perfectly

AnotherEmma · 15/06/2020 19:14

I wonder what the difference is between 'going shopping' and going shopping?

FuzzyPuffling · 15/06/2020 19:15

Oi, where's my hamper? It was my idea in the first place. Meanies.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 15/06/2020 19:16

Can I have a gin hamper?
Pretty please

Well we haven't yet @Hearhoovesthinkzebras, despite the cries of VE Day and packed beaches..... we are following government guidelines as well. So 🤷‍♀️. I was also under the impression that the shielded could go for a walk doing their own risk assessments, they are also reviewing the shielded this week. But to be honest, I don't think you'll go out whatever they say, will you?
