I don’t normally but I have a coldsore so think I’ll wear one tomorrow, hopefully I won’t get any passive aggressive comments from other shoppers that have been reported here.

No. It is a matter of civil liberties and freedom and also they don't make much difference and could make things worse.

yomommasmomma · 13/06/2020 15:52

I am so shocked at the amount of people saying they do not wear one! Here in London I would say 80% are wearing them. Can't think why you wouldn't, even if it only helps a little, surely it's an easy thing to do??

I live somewhere where I can easily social distance. I haven't done a supermarket shop in store since March and have no intention of going in a small, enclosed space with other people any time soon.

There is absolutely no point in me wearing one.

Besides, they only work if worn properly and most people I see wearing them, are not wearing them properly at all, rendering them pretty much pointless.

You're very easily shocked then. Why don't I wear one? Simple, I don't want to.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 13/06/2020 17:11

Yes - I'm in the minority here though, I'd say maybe 20% in the supermarkets and none in any other shops. We are out in the sticks and there is a distinct section of the population here that still think it's "only flu" or some sort of liberal conspiracy.

No-one's said anything or even given me a dirty look though. Not that I give a shit, I'm in it for the long haul and will probably be wearing them for the foreseeable future.

recycledteenager24 · 13/06/2020 17:15

don't own one as i'm phobic of covering my nose and mouth so def wouldn't wear one.

C0NNIE · 13/06/2020 17:18

Yes

TheHighestSardine · 13/06/2020 17:35

Yes, and annoyed by how I'm in a tiny minority, maybe 2% of people wearing them around here. Fortunately almost everyone is good at staying at an appropriate distance, but honestly - for most people it's no physiological issue and with the high asymptomatic infection rate not doing it is showing contempt for everyone else's well-being.

I do not mean anyone whose own breathing suffers from a mask - although getting a better mask will help many.

Yes, I do mean you people who say "I just don't want to". It's like smoking at people except with a much higher chance of permanent health damage for the recipient.

HeIenaDove · 13/06/2020 19:32

@TheHighestSardine Please try and remember that you have no idea of someones medical history, just in case you are thinking of confronting someone on public transport who isnt wearing one.

HeIenaDove · 13/06/2020 19:36

Your post smacks of the "oh but i didnt mean you" posts when someone is pulled up on here about their attitudes to disability benefit claimants.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 13/06/2020 19:57

Yes I wear one that my cousin made for me. Her business has no income at the moment so she’s turned her hand to face coverings. Nothing else in my wardrobe is as well tailored!

I wear glasses (a repurposed coffee packet closer solves the fogging issue) and am somewhat claustrophobic, but I have worn masks at work so it’s not too alien. I also lip read (not hearing impaired, just have some mild cognitive issues I think) so I’m mindful that my mask wearing may be problematic to others.

I would never judge individuals for not wearing a mask, but I think it’s my civic responsibility to do so because I can. We can’t keep 2m apart forever (and indeed it seems most people have given up on social distancing) so this is how we will get back to something like normality.

amber763 · 13/06/2020 19:59

@PurpleDaisies advised to wear them in supermarkets and shops in Scotland.

bengalcat · 13/06/2020 20:03

I’m in West London and % wearing masks is low .

Gwenhwyfar · 13/06/2020 20:06

I've tried, but they're so uncomfortable with glasses and I just though why the hell should I protect others if other people aren't wearing them so I've stopped for the moment. Will keep trying to get used to them as I think they are part of the lockdown exit solution and we will all have to wear them in all closed spaces eventually.

mencken · 13/06/2020 20:10

I do. Doesn't cause me any issues apart from having to wear lenses, not specs. I'm not visiting anyone and not working so low risk of having it, but for me it is only minor hassle to wear a mask.

and yes I do know how to wear it and not to fiddle about with it. And yes it gets worn once and then washed.

bengalcat · 13/06/2020 20:10

I ordered some pretty Boden ones which arrived yesterday for any of the family to wear on public transport .

EcoCustard · 13/06/2020 20:13

No I don’t and those that were shopping in the supermarket this morning wearing masks and gloves all felt it appropriate to touch my 14months old head and hair whilst he sat in the trolley. It’s almost like it gives some a false sense of security.

Duckfinger · 13/06/2020 20:13

Nope. My anxiety stems from a traumatic event that involved my nose and mouth being covered. I can't even wrap a scarf round my face in winter I have panic attacks.
I have said to DH if they become mandatory he shall have to do all the shopping and I'll have to stop going out.

MaggieMay1972 · 13/06/2020 20:16

Absolutely, I have a silk handkerchief over my nose and mouth and tied on a knot behind. I look like Dick Turpin’s charwoman - your money of your self raising flour Smile

bengalcat · 13/06/2020 20:17

Loving the Dick Turpin look

Montsti · 13/06/2020 20:18

I do every time I leave the house as we’re not allowed out in public without wearing one...certainly not a supermarket..You have to run with one on too..My 2 eldest kids went back to school last week and have to wear one the whole schoolday..

I’m in South Africa.

2beautifulbabs · 13/06/2020 20:23

I use the mask if I'm in supermarkets but not outside.
I got weird looks from people yesterday in the supermarket in my area I was the only one with a mask on

SinglePringle · 13/06/2020 20:23

Yep, every time. I’m in the minority though. Give zero shits about that.

SinglePringle · 13/06/2020 20:25

(Also asked a couple, who were less than arms length behind me in the queue, to step back)

Mum2jenny · 13/06/2020 20:31

No, very few ppl in my area are wearing them. Was in Tesco today- no masks. In B&Q only around 3 ppl in about 200+. So not around here.
Too little too late imo.
