WTAF - Far right protests

999 replies

Poppi89 · 12/06/2020 11:18

I have just heard on the radio that far-right protesters will be out tomorrow in response to the BLM protesters. People are being urged not to be out in support of BLM tomorrow due to the aggressive nature of the far-right group and BLM protests are being cancelled because of them.

I am outraged by this. The BLM protesters are asking for people to not be killed due to the colour of their skin. They have rightly or wrongly made a decision to put themselves at risk of COVID-19 to help spread this message - a lot of people have called them idiots etc for doing this.

The far-right protests are now also protesting in large groups (but not in response to a murder) and are 'known' for being aggressive. How is this acceptable?

I would like to hear from anyone who is planning to join/agree with these far-right protests and their reasons why?

Smile - I don't know any of the actors from the new Star Wars or the aliens either. Now you are just being a dick

LlamaHammock · 13/06/2020 22:43

With Churchill it's a question of extremes. Are you honestly expecting that people in Britain should completely fail to honour the leader of the country when it fought an extremist aryan supremacist?
But, obviously, Churchill was a loud and proud white supremacist too, and certain of his views were considered far right at the time.

LusiM · 13/06/2020 22:44

“Black Lives Matter UK (BLMUK) is a coalition of black activists and organisers across the UK” :fund currently standing at £886,000+ and “guided by a commitment to dismantle imperialism, capitalism....”

When an organisation or charity is raising money they need to disclose these details on their web site. I visit several sites as social media link to black lives matter in the UK and go fund me pages and nothing.

Someone remind me. BLM is about persuading the authorities to refrain from killing black people unnecessarily. The 'counter protesters', or racist fascist thugs as we commonly know them, are demanding the right to 'protect' bits of street furniture. Why are they considered to be comparable actions? Classic divert the narrative.

Pepperwort · 13/06/2020 22:49

That is uncalled for and unhelpful llama.

If any of you here or at the defenders protests today had even an ounce of respect for Churchill you'd condemn what happened today. Let's be honest, these racists barely know who Churchill is/was never mind what he fought to eradicate. Also, saying he saved us from fascism is akin to saying Boris has saved us from covid. We won the war due to the bravery and self sacrifice of millions of young men and women. Yes, Churchill was leading the country at the time but some his views were not far removed from Hitler's. He wasn't fighting the ideology per se but more the impact it could potentially have on Europe/ Britain.

He was a man of his time, but even then he was widely known to be a white supremacist.

Notejode · 13/06/2020 22:50

Quote LusiM

Thanks! Yes, I have seen how much they raised but no what I was looking for.

flamingochill · 13/06/2020 22:50

The FR protesters could have won the moral high ground by carrying placards so we knew what they stood for. If some of those placards were "Respect our Police" "Proud to be English" and they'd been friendly and respectful towards the police then people would be sympathetic towards them.

Many were clearly spoiling for a fight with anyone and the "Engerland" chants was not a show of national pride.

As an aside the only positive videos I saw of today's protest was of men picking up rubbish like bottles. Anyone seen anything else?

longwayoff · 13/06/2020 22:52

Ohhhhh McTits, you should read your posts through before you put them up, you'll save yourself a deal of embarrassment.

McTits · 13/06/2020 22:53

@LlamaHammock
Wow! You’re delightful!
You base this view on what exactly? The fact that I have a different opinion to you! 🙄

lucyintheskywithcz · 13/06/2020 22:54

Longways -
What happened with the FR today was a disgrace. But - if some elements of the BLM movement were not attacking the statues and vocalising their desire for this then the narrative could not be changed. The message would be getting through much better. That is my point. Not only is what some - and I will say it again - high profile individuals saying and some campaigners doing becoming a distraction from the issue it's also leading to negativity from the masses - which is where change needs to happen.

Babbas · 13/06/2020 22:55

Mctits- I’ve lived in multicultural areas for the past 25 years and I’ve yet to witness anyone who is black being discriminated against more than anyone from another race. I’ve been discriminated against for being white, blonde, short, my accent and many other things. This has not made me go around spouting bullshit about my rights mattering more than anyone else’s.

Good grief. What a totally deluded post. People like you are why we need blm movements. Let's hope you're not passing these vile views down to kids. Oh and btw no one gives a fuck that you as a short, blonde, white woman don't believe racism exists.

This reminds me of Trump's 'very fine people on both sides' speech after Charlottesville.

No, BLM are not as bad as white supremacists.

McTits · 13/06/2020 22:57

@longwayoff
Just because I may have a different opinion to you does not justify your comment. I fail to see where I’m singling anyone out for abuse just for having a different opinion. Freedom of speech still exists. If you can’t disagree with someone constructively then you have lost your argument really.

myrtleWilson · 13/06/2020 22:57

Jeez @McTits did no-one ever explain the but rule to you?

Yes of course nobody should be unlawfully killed but basically means you agree that some people deserve to be unlawfully killed.

longwayoff · 13/06/2020 22:58

Flamingo, far right protesters cannot win the moral high ground by virtue of being what they are. If you don't understand what they are you'd better acquaint yourself with that. As one day they may come for you.

LlamaHammock · 13/06/2020 22:58

@McTits

You're a white person questioning whether racism exists, or is a big deal, because you haven't seen it.

You are also arguing that anti racism protestors are no better or worse than neo nazis.

Utterly contemptible.

Msmcc1212 · 13/06/2020 22:59

BLM protests are not left wing protests, they are anti racist protests, surely? Most reasonable people of all political leanings are against racism (although they may not agree with the protests).

Any counter protest then must be pro-racism? Racism is illegal. Which makes this protest doubly illegal due to covid restrictions, surely? Or am I missing something? Why would anyone in their right mind protest to protect racism? Confused

‘What do we want?’
‘The right to be irrationally mean to others’
‘When do we want it?’
‘Now!’

Paska · 13/06/2020 22:59

Oops, must have posted that while it was being deleted, it went a bit wonky.

At least Mumsnet isn't allowing the worst of the racism to stand, although part of me thinks that sunlight is the best disenfectant ALthough no in the literal sense that Trump thinks.

myrtleWilson · 13/06/2020 22:59

Thank you @MNHQ for deleting that from @McTits

McTits · 13/06/2020 22:59

@Babbas
No I just have a different opinion to you and I am entitled to that. As previously stated, everyone is equal and nobody’s rights matter more than anyone else’s. I’m not deluded thanks! 😂
