WTAF - Far right protests

Poppi89 · 12/06/2020 11:18

I have just heard on the radio that far-right protesters will be out tomorrow in response to the BLM protesters. People are being urged not to be out in support of BLM tomorrow due to the aggressive nature of the far-right group and BLM protests are being cancelled because of them.

I am outraged by this. The BLM protesters are asking for people to not be killed due to the colour of their skin. They have rightly or wrongly made a decision to put themselves at risk of COVID-19 to help spread this message - a lot of people have called them idiots etc for doing this.

The far-right protests are now also protesting in large groups (but not in response to a murder) and are 'known' for being aggressive. How is this acceptable?

I would like to hear from anyone who is planning to join/agree with these far-right protests and their reasons why?

Imari Ayton who gave speeches with the bloke from Star Wars and has given a number of high profile addresses said it yesterday in Radio 4.

Notejode · 13/06/2020 22:11

No one here wants to live in a racist country, so we are all ears. Tell us how we can make things better. I want an equal society for everyone. It does not seem such a tall order when you think of the support that is there.

This should be achieved without a far left organisation behind.

Cleanmean · 13/06/2020 22:13

Sadly many Brits don't know how racist and violent Churchill was. His opinion of black people and minorities was based on white supremacy. Stop blaming his racism on the era, there were many folk from that era who gave their lives to end fascism and were not racist. None of the thugs there today, and some veterans there had no idea of his past. Yet were there to defend his fucking statue.

I think it's high time real, unedited, non whitewashed British history was taught in schools. Then maybe people would understand the socio- political context of blm and anti fascism. Interestingly, the thugs today were shouting 'antifa' to the police. I don't think they realise what it means. Dumb fucks.

buildingbridge · 13/06/2020 22:14

We all know the type of people who are attending THAT protest. Most of them are racist and I would not be surprised if the majority attending are those racist football fans.

Who 'high up in BLM' is asking for Chirchills statue to be removed? Cite please

I think BLM are concentrating on Equality. It's a bit bigger than that...or don't you know?

I think you are missing the point - or probably choose to ignore it - and this is the issue isn't it? Neither side listens to each other. Yes BLM are fighting for equality so do just that - don't alienate the wider public by desecrating monuments because then what you are actually fighting for gets lost in the noise . The wider community will get defensive because by attacking monuments important to Britain you will piss people off big time and they won't listen to the message - and if BLM want change society have to get on board with what you are trying to do.

Notejode · 13/06/2020 22:19

Does anybody know
How many police or protesters were injured today?
How many protesters jailed?

They are there to defend his "fucking" statue because he lead us to victory in the Second World War which has a massive impact in this country and continues to to this day.

I would not know who run BLM UK or any details of their address, charity registration number? so let alone who is high up in the organisation here.

lucyintheskywithcz · 13/06/2020 22:23

I asked you to cite your assertion that people high up in BLM have asked for Churchills statue to be removed

You haven't. The rest is nonsense

I just did. I said she had high status she has been spokes person numerous times at the meets and was on radio 4 yesterday. What more do you want?

Sandybval · 13/06/2020 22:23

To be fair, there are quite a lot of outlets who are citing her radio 4 interview: twitter.com/BBCr4today/status/1271717945518043137 depends how much you trust the BBC I guess!

It is a very sad reflection on our country that a man who has publicly called BAME people racist names was subsequently voted to be the leader of the Tory party by it's members and put into number 10 by the public. Boris Johnson's racism has done him no damage at all, I think this says much about us as it does him. A thread a while ago called for a ban for racist posters, one strike and they're out. I wish the public wanted this for our politicians.

lucyintheskywithcz · 13/06/2020 22:25

They don't want to hear anyone's view except there own sadly I'm leaving them to their echo chamber

myrtleWilson · 13/06/2020 22:26

Arrests of protestors were over 100 in central London alone according to news reports
lucyintheskywithcz · 13/06/2020 22:26

LusiM · 13/06/2020 22:32

BLM maybe concentrating on equality but the “gofundme” page for BLMUK states their second aim after dismantling imperialism is dismantling capitalism which is extreme.

flamingochill · 13/06/2020 22:33

Someone said earlier that BLM and BLMUK are different organizations

lucyintheskywithcz · 13/06/2020 22:34

From my post 28mins ago

Note - I do not know what you are in about. Someone is agreeing that she represents BLM in speeches and in the media - I do not know who but she is being seen as one of the people at the forefront - you are just being purposely obtuse - rose mcgowan was a figurehead for me too but I don't think she had a charity number either

With Churchill it's a question of extremes. Are you honestly expecting that people in Britain should completely fail to honour the leader of the country when it fought an extremist aryan supremacist? I think most people know he was far from perfect. If you are looking for perfection you will be looking for a long time, and everyone is a creation of their culture. If you can see a difference between the extreme of the far right 'protesters' and the (imo) lesser violence involved in the BLM, you should be able to acknowledge greater / lesser evils there.

BLM may not be hierarchical, it may not be a fully formed single organisation, but there are people who speak on behalf of the movement. One did call for Churchill's statue to be removed, and it was defaced. I don't know what you think to gain by disputing this. There have also been calls to remove Nelson's column. Nelson fought the emperor Napoleon, preventing an invasion from imperial France, and Britain will not forget him either.
