WTAF - Far right protests

Poppi89 · 12/06/2020 11:18

I have just heard on the radio that far-right protesters will be out tomorrow in response to the BLM protesters. People are being urged not to be out in support of BLM tomorrow due to the aggressive nature of the far-right group and BLM protests are being cancelled because of them.

I am outraged by this. The BLM protesters are asking for people to not be killed due to the colour of their skin. They have rightly or wrongly made a decision to put themselves at risk of COVID-19 to help spread this message - a lot of people have called them idiots etc for doing this.

The far-right protests are now also protesting in large groups (but not in response to a murder) and are 'known' for being aggressive. How is this acceptable?

I would like to hear from anyone who is planning to join/agree with these far-right protests and their reasons why?

Members of the group have called for Sadiq Khan to be hanged

Boris gets death threats from the left everyday. Don’t act all outraged thinking it’s just the far right that do these things.

Glowcat · 12/06/2020 16:43

’I think some people wanted to protect the cenotaph etc.... that is called far right!‘

No. Far right groups are called far right. They tend to give Nazi salutes and have lots of members that wear army clothing despite never having been in the army.

Muminabun · 12/06/2020 16:45

BLM are far left and no better or worse than the far right, they are both extremists. The BLM protests have been violent.

Devlesko · 12/06/2020 16:45

I believe in democracy and not shutting any free speech down.
I don't support protests, it does nothing anyway.
I couldn't care less tbh, half of them will be virus ridden in a few weeks.
Open your eyes and see how this is all a big game, all of it.
You are all falling for it, it's sad to see how easy people jump on the latest bandwagon.

IfIHadAHeart · 12/06/2020 16:46

I think that when Tommy Robinson is encouraging his followers to get out and counter-protest, it’s fair to describe them as far-right. There’s also suggestions that EDL members will infiltrate some of the BLM marches and presumably cause issues.

Pelleas · 12/06/2020 16:46

How is this acceptable?

The far right don't care what is acceptable.

Devlesko · 12/06/2020 16:47

keep listening to media reports and the government, whilst you are occupied doing that the real shit is going on.
Just look over here folks, yes, just look over here, nothing going on over there. Grin

MadameMarie · 12/06/2020 16:48

Defending British war monuments does not automatically = far right

This would be the 3rd weekend of BLM protests and another weekend of attacking statues and memorials will not be taken lying down.

Glowcat · 12/06/2020 16:48

People calling for violence against Boris Johnson are usually overreacting to him personally or they’re one of his ex wives. People calling for violence against someone specifically because they’re a Muslim and a person of colour in a position of power? A different kettle of racist fish.

YounghillKang · 12/06/2020 16:50

And here are some potted bios of some of their members, but seems other posters may consider someone dressing up as a Nazi to visit Auschwitz are just charming, pro-British moderates...

This was so predictable.
The timing of the BLM protests - in the middle of a pandemic when we should be social distancing - could be viewed as provocative. I said last weekend that it would be very damaging to race relations. And surprise surprise - you’ve got a population who is fed up of lockdown, angry, frustrated, frightened - seeing thousands of protestors crammed close together in large cities - and all it takes is for the racist ones amongst that population to think that they’ll express their anger in this way.
It’s wrong, and the far right views are abhorrent, but last weeks protests were also wrong, given the current Covid situation.

Glowcat · 12/06/2020 16:52

The cenotaph is protected
The statue of Churchill is protected

Glowcat · 12/06/2020 16:53

It was going to happen. Whenever you have progress you have backlash.

MadameMarie · 12/06/2020 16:54

@Alex50

Nobody should be protesting 😡 Our economy is fucked, we’ve been locked down for 12 weeks. What a waste of time that was if everyone is out protesting every day. Children can’t go back to school, millions of people are going to be loosing their jobs, seriously, the last thing we need is everyone protesting and then turning into riots, we won’t have a country left at this rate, we are going to pull ourselves apart 😢
People are protesting because they're bored and they've got cabin fever and nothing else to do with themselves, youth with pent up angst and boredom is a potent mix.. It'll only get worse in the face of weak leadership, the radical left smelling blood and weakness and an under-resourced and cowered police department.

This shit will go on all summer. The purges will continue (the libraries and museums will be next) and anyone shouting against it will be deemed far right.

It's as if Corbyn won.

Glowcat · 12/06/2020 16:58

You had Barack Obama elected as the first black president of the USA and then you get Trump, who spent Obama’s terms claiming that Obama wasn’t really an American (birther conspiracy) and now courts white supremacists.

You have people taking to the streets against racism you’re going to get a backlash from groups who are proudly racist.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/06/2020 17:02

BLM aren’t far left- the far left have jumped on the bandwagon - not everyone wanting to protest against the removal of status is far right- again the far right are jumping on the band wagon!

Also OP they aren’t taking the risk of infecting themselves- I wasn’t locked down to protect myself; it was to protect the masses. So as far as I’m concerned the protests aren’t appropriate currently!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/06/2020 17:07

I detest Robinson but unless the marchers are breaking the law then they can have their counter march. Free speech is the right of people to say things we don’t agree with.

Glowcat · 12/06/2020 17:10

Thankfully we don’t have free speech.

EstuaryBird · 12/06/2020 17:13

I’m a veteran of the ANL v NF protests of the late 70s (I was ANL fyi!). I truly hope that we never see this on our streets again.

I pray that BLM have called their protest off and that these 2 groups do not meet. There is already a fake leaflet purporting to have originated from BLM but is very obviously just designed to wind up the Far Right hooligan element (and probably a large proportion of DM readers if they catch sight of it).

I think things could get a bit tricky.

Boudicabooandbulldogs · 12/06/2020 17:13

I know people from the veterans group who were planning on going. They were upset and confused that the police didn’t stop the violence and vandalism. They have (at least to my knowledge) no intention of being violent. They are also most certainly not going to be taking part in any Nazi salute. I’m sure that like the BLM protests there will be extreme elements that try and make it violent. That doesn’t mean the veterans aren’t allowed to go or their concerns are void.
You can’t say that all the protesters in the BLM marches were far left. Therefore not everyone who turns up on Saturday will be far right.
I truly wish we could stop all the protesting. It’s ridiculous in a pandemic. But if you allow one group you have to allow another.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 12/06/2020 17:15

I will be interested to see if the same people who objected to the BLM demos solely because of CV19 "not coz I'm racist " will be equally worried about the risk this time Confused

But I agree free speech is just that unless you're clearly inciting violence and unrest. I'm sure Tommy Robinson wouldn't dream of doing that.

MadameMarie · 12/06/2020 17:16

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude

I detest Robinson but unless the marchers are breaking the law then they can have their counter march. Free speech is the right of people to say things we don’t agree with.
Personally I can't really stand the Tommy Robinson types and their politics but i'm angry at the regressive woke left for making me side with them at the moment.

The purges, the vandalism, the mass crowds, attacking police officers in the street, pulling down statues, vandalising the Centoaph/Churchill etc and last but not least doing all this during a pandemic when most of the rest of the country are staying at home and following guidelines while sacrificing a lot.

I can't stand what's become of the left. They hate this country which is why the working class towns have deserted Labour in their droves.

BMW6 · 12/06/2020 17:19

@Ohdearfindingthisboringnow

I think some people wanted to protect the cenotaph etc.... that is called far right!

I am for BLM but not for destruction to the cenotaph to remember the war dead.

I completely agree
Glowcat · 12/06/2020 17:20

If you find yourself standing with Tommy Robinson and his ilk then I think you probably didn’t have to take too many steps to the right to join them.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 12/06/2020 17:21

I'd like to clarify that the people I was referring to were those I know in real life, not necessarily posters here.
