Embarrassing

I've name changed for this as it's highly embarrassing.

So today I went to a hardware store that was a 20 min drive from my house because I needed some parts to repair our broken gate lock and hinge.

I queued to get in and then once in there realised I desperately needed a wee and I'm also on my period which tends to make me need to pee more to be honest id not given the thought of needing the loo a second thought until I felt the urge! Toilets were closed and nobody allowed to use them I grabbed what I needed and made my way to the till and queued. Once I left the store I was getting desperate. I've not got the best bladder in the world as I've had 4 children and my bladder and pelvic muscles aren't the best!

I can usually wait until there is a toilet to use when out and about.

Anyway I knew I wouldn't make the 20 min drive home so I'm ashamed to say I had to find an empty spot in the car park, stayed in my car and manage to manouvere my leggings down and peed into an empty Costa cup

Was a tad messy and not something I want to repeat.

It got me thinking! Now that shops are opening on Monday and we're being encouraged by the chancellor to start spending to get the economy moving what on earth are people going to do when they need the loo? What if someone has a weak bladder or a child needs the toilet or a toddler who has recently potty trained? What about those like me that we're just caught short?

I wouldn't be able to take my kids shopping because one of them would be bound to need the toilet!

Is there any plans to open public toilets?

Please be kind to me as I am highly embarrassed that I peed in a costa cup in the car so my aibu is basically aibu to say that if they want the economy to get moving and people spending then they need to open toilets!

Don't be embarrassed, everyone gets caught short sometimes.

We used to have a portable potty that folded in half and was sealed so kept all the pee in when the DC were little. Maybe everyone needs one of those as I can't imagine public toilets will open for a long time.

This made me chuckle bless you. I know I shouldnt laugh. I was dating this guy for a few months and he bought me tickets to a concert. On the way home we were stuck trying to get out the car park when I was absolutely busting. I crouched down in the passenger seat and weed in to his coffee mug 😁 he couldn't be put off as he married me 4 years later.

You did what you had to do, no shame in that. I also think it's insane that toilets won't be open. How can people possibly manage that? Toilets are a necessity.

If it makes you feel better I nearly shit myself on a well walked nature path in my area last week....

Literally had to kneel on the floor and concentrate on sucking it back up the pipe to stop myself from shitting my jeans. Lovely eh?

I was with DH and bless him he just had to stand near me and wait for it to pass (nice choice of wording), while people were walking by probably wondering what the hell was going on.

We've all been there OP, you have my sympathy.

Well, you just need a decent size jar with a lid. Some wipes and a towel. Towel is for the seat until you get ‘experienced’ at it.
You may guess that I have done it before 😂😂

I like the potty idea! But My daughter wants to go and spend her birthday money at the end of the month and I'm wondering where we would go to use said potty?! a little alley way somewhere?! Definitely need to avoid large shopping centres I suppose

You really shouldn’t have to feel embarrassed about needing the loo, well done for being resourceful! You’re right though, if shops are gradually opening again, the loos need to as well.

Could have been worse. You could have found out you had more pee than a large costa cup and didn't realize because it was dark and now there is pee all on the cat seat, and it's not even your car. Not saying that this has ever happened to me or anything.

My husband is having treatment for bladder cancer. When he has to go, he has to go. Location of toilets is critically important. We won't be going out much until public loos are open either. And he travels with a medical wee bottle. Everywhere.

I agree with you. The toilets need to open up for people to visit the shops. I have an extremely weak bladder. Also children always need a wee, when out and about. I have weed into a cup in the car before! It was messy!

I'm a postie and have an "irritable bladder" so I'm bad at the best of times and have in the past had to ask people to use their house loos🤦‍♀️ now I cant do this so I've really been struggling but always found somewhere like the supermarket. So today I'm on a route I haven't been on in ages out in the wilds and there are no toilets but there in the distance I see a portaloo!!!! This portaloo wasn't there the last time I was out there and it's next to a farm and some houses.... brilliant as now I have seen the portaloo my bladder decides I desperately need to go.. I get to said portaloo and no word of a lie it's got a note on it saying that it's a converted book lending library!!!!!!! Like brilliant idea but seriously I almost cried!!!!

Don't be embarrassed op. I'm pregnant and have a 3yo. We have a Tupperware cup with a handle specifically for peeing in in the car.

I won't be shopping for fun, going to restaurants even outside, driving more than 10 min away until I know I can go to the loo! Seriously, I think because men are in power, they don't realise this is a huge problem with getting the country up and running again.

Least you didn't poo yourself on the drive home from a family meal (something hadn't agreed with me) with a 5 year old who wouldn't walk anywhere.. Luckily it was dark and I had to waddle from my car to my house carrying ds then deal with the aftermath as soon as the door was open!

It’s crazy that shops are allowed to open but that there won’t be any toilets. However I emailed my local John Lewis and their toilets are reopening next week so you may find other department stores and shopping centres do have theirs open too!

Your point about toilets is actually quite valid and I hadn’t thought about it before.

I should do though as I earlier thought I wasn’t that desperate for a wee- only to sneeze 10 seconds later and well after childbirth, let’s just say I should’ve gone when I needed to!

After having to pee on the M5 hardshoulder once (4 hour traffic jam), I since have one of these in my glove box at all times. Never had to use it in the 6 years since, but you never know!

Oh, I also have IBS so usually have to be aware of the nearest public toilets at all times.
I won't be venturing out until they're open.

Our local shopping centre loos have stayed open during lockdown even though there has only been 2 shops open in the entire centre. I assume most will reopen if they are situated within a mall.
