Embarrassing

I've name changed for this as it's highly embarrassing.

So today I went to a hardware store that was a 20 min drive from my house because I needed some parts to repair our broken gate lock and hinge.

I queued to get in and then once in there realised I desperately needed a wee and I'm also on my period which tends to make me need to pee more Confused to be honest id not given the thought of needing the loo a second thought until I felt the urge! Toilets were closed and nobody allowed to use them Sad I grabbed what I needed and made my way to the till and queued. Once I left the store I was getting desperate. I've not got the best bladder in the world as I've had 4 children and my bladder and pelvic muscles aren't the best!

I can usually wait until there is a toilet to use when out and about.

Anyway I knew I wouldn't make the 20 min drive home so I'm ashamed to say I had to find an empty spot in the car park, stayed in my car and manage to manouvere my leggings down and peed into an empty Costa cup BlushBlushBlush

Was a tad messy and not something I want to repeat.

It got me thinking! Now that shops are opening on Monday and we're being encouraged by the chancellor to start spending to get the economy moving what on earth are people going to do when they need the loo? What if someone has a weak bladder or a child needs the toilet or a toddler who has recently potty trained? What about those like me that we're just caught short?

I wouldn't be able to take my kids shopping because one of them would be bound to need the toilet!

Is there any plans to open public toilets?

Please be kind to me as I am highly embarrassed that I peed in a costa cup in the car BlushBlush so my aibu is basically aibu to say that if they want the economy to get moving and people spending then they need to open toilets!

I work for a very lovely department store group and we will be opening all of our customer toilets.

OhYeahYouSuck · 11/06/2020 21:57

There is a lot of oversharing going on.

BirthdayCakes · 11/06/2020 22:02

Pee troll?

questionforengland · 11/06/2020 22:04

There is a lot of oversharing going on.

On an anonymous forum, who cares?

slipperywhensparticus · 11/06/2020 22:06

Buy a sheewee

MummyGoingItAlone · 11/06/2020 22:07

I have Crohn’s disease which has become very active the last couple of weeks. I’ve struggled to go anywhere as need to be near a loo. I can’t go to my favourites parks as no loos. It’s rubbish

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 11/06/2020 22:10

I did that the other day - no costa cup, just peed on the gravel.
Carpark was empty, didn't seem overlooked. Afterwards I spotted the CCTV camera.

Embarrassing moment today, had an eye test.
We discussed layout of laptop and display screen.
Optician - "and where do you read?"
Me - "on the sofa mostly" - not really what she needed to know.

@AnnieCartwright a travel Jane looks amazing! Grin

Well it's good to hear that some are opening that makes me feel better. And I am most definitely a pee troll Grin mumsnet HQ can check me out I've been here quite a while and NC for this. Grin

It's definitely going to impact women and children more if they don't open - women's toilets always have the biggest queues don't they!

Fingers crossed department stores open their toilets next week as shops start to open!

Im worried about this. For the past 10 weeks Ive been able to park directly at work due to key worker status. However we share a building with other services who are returning next week and its back to the car park 500 meters away. I have IBS and that 500 meter can be a bot far some mornings. The car park does have public loos which I need to use at least a couple of times per week. Im concerned they won't be open and the only way to manage this is pretty much not to eat on Sunday.

Nottherealslimshady · 11/06/2020 22:12

Dont be embarrassed people have peed in all kids of weird things. I peed in a pringles tube while my husband was driving once because we were on our way to my little brothers army ceremony and would have been late to stop!
I imagine the onus is on people to know whether they're able to go out without using public toilets and only make journeys they're able to.

stardance · 11/06/2020 22:13

I bought a unisex urinal. About £5 from Argos. We wanted to get out and enjoy the weather a few weeks ago but couldn't go too far or for too long because I'd need a wee! OH and DS are fine with peeing in a bush or empty bottle, DD is young enough to pee in a bush if needed and long as someone helps her. Not so easy for me!

I still had to find a quiet spot on a country lane and hide behind the car to use it, certainly not dignified! But needs must, and I can see it getting lots of use!

aceofbase1 · 11/06/2020 22:14

Oh and I agree about the over sharing! Haha but I am enjoying reading them as it makes me feel better that I'm not alone Grin

There's is no way I'm telling anyone this in real life ha no way!

This has been really concerning me. We don't have a car so that limits us even more. I was thinking about walking a couple of miles to meet a friend in a park, but without a toilet, that would be impossible.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 11/06/2020 22:16

There's an awful lot of people peeing themselves on MN lately 🤔

Bluebellbike · 11/06/2020 22:17

I've had terrible trouble all through lock down due to this. I have shopped as infrequently as possible since March 23rd. I have to use the bus to go shopping. Cannot get a grocery delivery from any store at all. It takes around 20 to 40 minutes to get to the supermarket from home, if I don't have to wait too long for a bus (drastically reduced service). Sometimes it takes longer. Then I queue for around 30 minutes to get inside. Around 20 minutes to get my shopping. 15 minutes walk back to the bus stop. I have weak bladder and need the loo around every hour and a half. Then another 20 to 40 minutes to get home. I'm really really desperate by the time I get home. But no other choice, what can I do, all the public loos and shop toilets are locked up.

aceofbase1 · 11/06/2020 22:18

@PickwickThePlockingDodo I didn't technically pee myself Wink I haven't seen these other threads I will investigate Grin

I hit the back of a standstill M25 queue (not literally) and promptly needed a wee. Amazingly at the start of my journey up north (I'd already done three hours on the road), the friend I'd been visiting had given me a she wee. I was delighted and started rootling around in my bag for it. I then noticed the vehicle next to me... an open truck full of soldiers. Four hours. Four fucking hours I had to wait.

Sheeshisthatthetime · 11/06/2020 22:22

@Pinkstars2501 🤣🤣🤣

Sheeshisthatthetime · 11/06/2020 22:25

@justjessie

Good job you didn't do it in an empty drinks can... if you would have been pulled over you may have got arrested for possession of a canapiss

I'm actually stealing this!

Sheeshisthatthetime · 11/06/2020 22:26

I desperately need to go.. I get to said portaloo and no word of a lie it's got a note on it saying that it's a converted book lending library!!!!!!! Like brilliant idea but seriously I almost cried!!!!

Hahahaha!!

IKEA888 · 11/06/2020 22:27

we love long countryside walks. hillwalking and I am.now an expert outdoor weeer.
I've also got IBS and had really awful clenching times

Khione · 11/06/2020 22:29

You have just reminded me of when I found myself in a similar situation years ago.

The only thing I had available was one of my kid's wellies. - At least it didn't leak.

I have a shewee now for emergencies in the countryside but I couldn't use it in town 😆😆😆

FishOnPillows · 11/06/2020 22:32

A couple of weeks ago my partner was taking me somewhere as a surprise for our anniversary. After a while in the car, I was getting desperate for a wee. Was on the verge of peeing myself in the car seat, and I told him so, repeatedly. We ended up pulling over so I could pee in the undergrowth just off of a lay-by.

Got back in the car and half an hour later got to where we were going - where he proposed to me!

So romantic, me peeing in the undergrowth 😂

Bleepbloopblarp · 11/06/2020 22:39

I went to The Range yesterday and the public loo was open! I was surprised (and relieved!) - it’s mad though. Why there and not other shops or public loos run by the council. It’s like people can just make up there own rules.

I daren’t take the kids out for the day to a beach or something in case there’s nowhere to wee. It’s really pissing (no pun intended) me off now!
