Embarrassing

aceofbase1 · 11/06/2020 20:22

I've name changed for this as it's highly embarrassing.

So today I went to a hardware store that was a 20 min drive from my house because I needed some parts to repair our broken gate lock and hinge.

I queued to get in and then once in there realised I desperately needed a wee and I'm also on my period which tends to make me need to pee more Confused to be honest id not given the thought of needing the loo a second thought until I felt the urge! Toilets were closed and nobody allowed to use them Sad I grabbed what I needed and made my way to the till and queued. Once I left the store I was getting desperate. I've not got the best bladder in the world as I've had 4 children and my bladder and pelvic muscles aren't the best!

I can usually wait until there is a toilet to use when out and about.

Anyway I knew I wouldn't make the 20 min drive home so I'm ashamed to say I had to find an empty spot in the car park, stayed in my car and manage to manouvere my leggings down and peed into an empty Costa cup BlushBlushBlush

Was a tad messy and not something I want to repeat.

It got me thinking! Now that shops are opening on Monday and we're being encouraged by the chancellor to start spending to get the economy moving what on earth are people going to do when they need the loo? What if someone has a weak bladder or a child needs the toilet or a toddler who has recently potty trained? What about those like me that we're just caught short?

I wouldn't be able to take my kids shopping because one of them would be bound to need the toilet!

Is there any plans to open public toilets?

Please be kind to me as I am highly embarrassed that I peed in a costa cup in the car BlushBlush so my aibu is basically aibu to say that if they want the economy to get moving and people spending then they need to open toilets!

I have heard that you can use a nappy as an emergency

almalm · 11/06/2020 22:40

Another one peeing in something in the back of the car? First it was the person peeing into nappies and now another one peeing in a costa cup.
For heaven's sake you just open both car doors on one side (especially as you were in an empty car park) and squat between them and get it over with. The nappy woman could have done that too in the layby she was supposedly in.

But if you're not the peeing in the back of the car troll YANBU about public toilets and toilets in shops being closed. It's completely ridiculous. I'm in an EU country where the lockdown was much stricter. We are now out of lockdown and there are very few new cases a day and all of that was achieved without closing toilets and without people having to resort to pissing and shitting everywhere which has surely got to be as serious as the corona risk.

I went travelling around India when I was 22. I was on a 4 hour coach journey but the coach broke. I was travelling with a group of 7 strangers (travelling cheap!) and “got the urge”. Didn’t feel so great... had to “go” outside the bus.. I thought my upset stomach would never end. When I got back on the coach the (what felt like) whole coach gave me a round of applause and patted me in the back saying “good girl” “ahh travellers tummy ha ha ha”.

Anyway. My point is.. Hope that helped you feel less embarrassed. It defo could have been worse.

Bet it was 13 years ago and I can still recal ever. Single. Second 🤣🤣🤣

Have peed on the side of the road a couple of times when pregnant Blush. Also once had to wait in a car park for an insanely long time (don't ask) when DD was about 3 months old. She was asleep, I couldn't leave her, didn't want to wake her.... I had no cup, but I had a lot of spare nappies! (Careful bladder control to stop when nappy was full to get the next one in place!)

When my DSis and I were small, the potty was in the back of the car for any long journey "just in case" - probably till I was about 8! I don't remember ever needing it, but it was a good back-up plan, I assume anyone that travels with small children can just carry a potty?

wanderings · 11/06/2020 22:48

We need the DM to get hold of this one, to put pressure on the govt to reopen the toilets. I'm only half joking, the government in their bubble don't have a clue about these realities faced by ordinary people.

ramarama · 11/06/2020 22:50

the toilets are are open in supermarkets (at least the two near me that I've noticed) so i imagine they mostly will be once the shops open?

MamaLion1319 · 11/06/2020 22:51

Pretty impressed you managed to pee into a costa cup so I wouldn't feel too ashamed 😂

peachgreen · 11/06/2020 22:52

@almalm Of course it's the pee troll. As is the person replying with a similar username suggesting using a nappy. Have reported.

Talksense · 11/06/2020 22:52

Happened to me the other day.

I was excited that Starbucks’s drive thru was open, then went out the way to the rural farm shop (home made apple juice yum), needed a wee and ‘waited until I got to the supermarket’, queues for a while to realised that the loos would be closed. Had to drive back out of time to find a wooded area...

Luckily it was raining and wasn’t caught by any dog walkers.

aceofbase1 · 11/06/2020 22:55

@mamalion1319 why thanks 😊

To the poster that said it was the back seat, it was actually the front! But afterwards I wished I had gone in the backseat as it was ahem messy! Blush

And I would much rather pee in a cup in the car than squat in the car park?! Confused it wasn't an empty car park I drove to an empty spot where there were no surrounding cars right near me!

Please @mnhq can you verify me! Grin

@peachgreen I'm quite offended that your saying I'm a troll! Never been called a troll in my life! Especially not a pee troll Confused

It's getting tedious. I have reported too but I was told the nappy one the other week definitely wasn't a troll.

PhoenixBuchanan · 11/06/2020 22:57

I've done this more than once (I work in a job where I have to drive lots and don't always have easy access to a toilet)... I'll never forget the time my bladder was so full that the takeaway coffee cup didn't hold it all!

aceofbase1 · 11/06/2020 22:58

@almalm maybe you need to leave the thread if it's tedious.

I haven't actually seen any other thread regarding nappy's or pee

The public toilets have been open in my local shopping centre all along, they never closed at all. There’s only about 6 shops open and very few people about, so I’ve felt quite safe using them.

fairydustandpixies · 11/06/2020 23:00

A dear friend of mine got caught short a few years back driving home on a motorway. There was some hold up and all the traffic ground to a halt. After an hour she couldn't bear it anymore so covered her lap with a cardigan, slipped her lunchbox underneath and instantly felt much better!!

aceofbase1 · 11/06/2020 23:01

@Reader57 I'm glad I started this thread now because it's put my mind at rest that not everywhere is closed.

WitsEnding · 11/06/2020 23:03

Some public loos open again in my area, but it's certainly highlighted how much I normally rely on cafes. Most of the public loos outside the main tourist area have closed in the last few years.

M0mmyneedswine · 11/06/2020 23:07

Most of our local public toilets have reopened this week hopefully everywhere else will do the same soon

ohtheholidays · 11/06/2020 23:08

I hadn't realized the toilets weren't going to be open(stupid me obviously)and I have ulcerative colitis and IBS so that means I'm going to be locked away at home for even longer then and I've been in lockdown pretty much since the start of March and I am so so fed up.

Purpleorange1 · 11/06/2020 23:10

This thread reminds me of the time we took DD strawberry picking. No toilets around so I decided to walk behind a heap of manure and just make her squat behind it and do her business. Nobody saw her wee. She comes out walking towards her dad shouting "I just done weewee on the big mountain" just as another family were walking past. We left pretty quickly!

itsallgitsandshiggles · 11/06/2020 23:14

I've just ordered a shewee after reading this!!!

almalm · 11/06/2020 23:18

@aceofbase1
Squatting in the car park makes a hell of a lot less mess than trying to piss into a costa cup.
Search for the nappy thread....that made even more mess than your Costa cup and could also gave been prevented by just getting out of the car and squatting.
Try it next time... the squatting that. Not the nappies.
