Embarrassing

aceofbase1 · 11/06/2020 20:22

I've name changed for this as it's highly embarrassing.

So today I went to a hardware store that was a 20 min drive from my house because I needed some parts to repair our broken gate lock and hinge.

I queued to get in and then once in there realised I desperately needed a wee and I'm also on my period which tends to make me need to pee more Confused to be honest id not given the thought of needing the loo a second thought until I felt the urge! Toilets were closed and nobody allowed to use them Sad I grabbed what I needed and made my way to the till and queued. Once I left the store I was getting desperate. I've not got the best bladder in the world as I've had 4 children and my bladder and pelvic muscles aren't the best!

I can usually wait until there is a toilet to use when out and about.

Anyway I knew I wouldn't make the 20 min drive home so I'm ashamed to say I had to find an empty spot in the car park, stayed in my car and manage to manouvere my leggings down and peed into an empty Costa cup BlushBlushBlush

Was a tad messy and not something I want to repeat.

It got me thinking! Now that shops are opening on Monday and we're being encouraged by the chancellor to start spending to get the economy moving what on earth are people going to do when they need the loo? What if someone has a weak bladder or a child needs the toilet or a toddler who has recently potty trained? What about those like me that we're just caught short?

I wouldn't be able to take my kids shopping because one of them would be bound to need the toilet!

Is there any plans to open public toilets?

Please be kind to me as I am highly embarrassed that I peed in a costa cup in the car BlushBlush so my aibu is basically aibu to say that if they want the economy to get moving and people spending then they need to open toilets!

@almalm that's probably true but the thought of getting my bare white arse out in a car park is more traumatic Grin

I’m 34 weeks pregnant and nervous to leave the house for this reason

I have been to two asdas and there toilets are open so I'm guessing the shopping centre toilets will be aswell..

Lady Montdore would be revolving in her (entirely fictional - or not?) grave:
'I go in the morning,' she said, 'and that is that. I don't have to be let out like a dog at intervals, thank goodness – there's nothing so common, to my mind'.

groovergirl · 12/06/2020 00:25

Well done, OP. You are agile and resourceful.

Now go and watch the 30 Rock "Sun Tea" episode to see how the experts do it. Grin

Gingerkittykat · 12/06/2020 01:45

I'm nervous about driving half an hour to meet my friend for a picnic because of the toilet issue because I have an irritable bladder. There's a service station a couple of minutes drive away so relying on that being open.

The Tesco toilets have been open and that's the only other place I have been for weeks.

ladykuga · 12/06/2020 04:02

Seriously don't be embarrassed. I've used my daughters travel potty in the back of the car more times than i care to admit.Blush I won't be going shopping until public toilets are open. I can't deal with that level of stress.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/06/2020 04:08

@Bellybounce

Happens to us all!

Weed at the side of the motorway once Blush Grin In fairness it had been standstill for over an hour, but I won’t be forgetting that in a hurry. Blush No doubt nor will anyone else on that part of the M1 that day...

I've watered the hard shoulder near Toddington and Tibshelf on seperate occasions; my car hadn't moved for well over an hour either time.

We all have bladders. No benefit to being ashamed.

Right now, shops and buisnesses need to work out if the costs of preventing Covid 19 are worth the costs of potentially spreading other illnesses.

AllNaturalIngredients · 12/06/2020 04:25

I have severe IBS which can come in with next to no warning, with severe cramping (why I’m up right now 😒) - I’ll be too afraid to venture far

Littlemeadow123 · 12/06/2020 06:14

It is ridiculous. I live in the lake district - what used to be a beauty spot but is now covered in human shit because the bogs are shut. I have nightmares about what the dog might roll in.

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 12/06/2020 06:30

@slipperywhensparticus

Buy a sheewee
Already have one, but it still needs to ‘flow’ (for a better word) somewhere 😉 Not to mention the logistics in a confined space
Amber0685 · 12/06/2020 06:37

Ours have opened www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/18507196.public-toilets-reopen-oxfordshire/
Maybe check with the council before going out if you expect to need them.

almalm · 12/06/2020 06:50

that's probably true but the thought of getting my bare white arse out in a car park is more traumatic

I suppose we are all different - I'd be more traumatized by making a mess in the car.
Honestly, if you practise squatting between the two car doors (do a "dry run" if you like) you'll see that it's doable and nobody has to see your bare white arse (it should be facing towards the car, not towards the audience :-D)

Pugsrus · 12/06/2020 06:51

We need a Mumsnet petition to get the loos open
It doesn’t effect men as much ,so they probably haven’t thought we women need the loos open

Deathraystare · 12/06/2020 06:52

It would certainly help if there were more portaloos (not converted into libraries obvs!).

I had an accident last night. Although I had gone loo before I left work and it is ony about 30 mins away, I was so busy reading my paper that I saw us sailing ast my stop. My bladder was telling me I needed to go.

The bus goes arond the corner so I had to walk back. Thank goodness for Tena lady that's all I am saying!

Sandybval · 12/06/2020 06:58

The toilets here have remained open, I know it can live on hard surfaces blah blah and be sprayed when you flush, but honestly, cover your face when you are in there and just wash your hands surely. They need to open them, it's not fair.

nannybeach · 12/06/2020 07:00

Frankly, I would be more embarassed about having a costa cup, at all, its not coffee, its disgusting, as a woman of a certain age, have been there, (also have diverticulitus, which can come on VERY suddenly. I went to collect an e-bay buy, over 100 miles, was absolutely bursting, kept stopping in laybys only to find a buger van or truck, was in agony, ended up in services in the town where I was going, dunno how I held on!!

StoppinBy · 12/06/2020 07:22

I had to stop at roadworks the other day, right at the start of the line, they have narrowed the road to one lane so letting only one direction of traffic through at a time, long waits etc.

In the back Mr 3 calls out 'toilet, me need toilet'...I weighed up my options, pulled on to the edge of the road and got him out to wee lol. It was either that or he was going to wee in the car so not really much choice.

Thisbastardcomputer · 12/06/2020 07:30

I feel your pain, I once had two big cups of tea and got on the motorway to travel two junctions, 4 hours later I'm still on it. I've never known pain like it, no bushes to get behind and nothing in the car to pee in. When I did eventually get to a toilet, it wouldn't come, I had to sit and wait.

Icedlatte · 12/06/2020 07:36

Don't be embarrassed, we've all had a wild wee!

I see a pp has already linked the same, but I too keep these in the car, as I'm always a bit worried about getting stuck in the middle of one of those giant motorway traffic jams that last for hours

rwalker · 12/06/2020 07:37

People need to realise why they can't open it's the risk and unable to keep them constantly sanitised . Thats why shops can open but toilets can't.

Whenwillthisbeover · 12/06/2020 07:38

The toilets were open last week in our farm shop. It usually has an open cafe and a restaurant on site which were obviously closed
It the block of three ladies cubicles were open with lots of paper towels and hand wash and spotless. So they may be open in some shops, I will just have to avoid buying coffee.

foxychox · 12/06/2020 07:39

I think there might be plans to open up some loos - I visited our local recreation spot this week and they had put in 3 portaloos with queuing lines. Not as good as opening all of the loos there but probably more feasible for deep cleaning and a hell of a lot better than having no loos at all and hundreds visiting there (and shitting in the woods Envy not envy)
