To think that Emma Watson is no feminist

HermioneWeasley · 11/06/2020 08:26

So after JKR published her incredibly powerful essay and disclosed being a survivor of domestic abuse and sexual violence, Emma decides to tweet that trans women are women. Emma doesn’t condemn the misogynist abuse and threats of sexual violence that JKR has received, nor is she concerned about the facts JKR has shared of an over 4000% increase in girls being referred to gender clinics, or how autistic girls are disproportionately represented.

What is Emma’s “feminism” for exactly?

How the hell do you disagree that only women menstruate Confused

MrBennsshop · 12/06/2020 15:37

I fully accept that definitions and views change, but the biology of sex doesn't surely?

Tootletum · 12/06/2020 15:38

@Enderthedragon yes exactly!! This is all such insane bullshit.

Oxyiz · 12/06/2020 15:40

Absolutely definitions can be changed and played with. Everything is just language after all. You can deconstruct language and query meanings until you're left with nothing. Just ask any philosophy student what reality is and watch them explode.

However, changing definitions does not change reality. You can swear blind until you're blue in the face that a male penis is now female, or the 6 foot 3 bearded man is completely indistinguishable from women in the room based on his say-so. In real life though that's just bullshit.

onlinelinda · 12/06/2020 15:54

I notice that the Guardian this morning have an article about JKR which uses the term "cis women" as though it were a normal and accepted term. Which it isn't.

ShebaShimmyShake · 12/06/2020 15:57

@Tootletum

There is a reason people often think actors aren't very intelligent. They are reading the words written by others, and it seems that they have equated their strong abilities in expressing those words visually with a strong ability to understand and interpret words intellectually...
Neither Watson nor Radcliffe have strong acting abilities, in fact they're both shite in everything.
SarahTancredi · 12/06/2020 15:57

Precisely oxy

Its biology that's is reason why women are oppressed. Why they die in menstruation huts. Why they are controlled sexually by mutilating their bodies. Why so many died trying to abort babies they disnt want or couldnt afford. Why they are in prison for a miscarriage. Why they are left to carry and give birth to their rapists babies because men decide that child has more right than the woman does it's not the man left with birth damage , and a baby is it. To deny sex is a reality denies the experience of women worldwide and implies we could all just identify out of it.

feelingverylazytoday · 12/06/2020 15:58

No, of course she's not a feminist.
A real feminist would have condemmed the numerous tweets that threatenened JKR with sexual violence.
It's never acceptable to threaten any woman (or any human being) with forced sex of any form, no matter how much you disagree with her opinions on any matter.

RedToothBrush · 12/06/2020 15:59

Yes, words have meanings, but definitions change all the time.

Language changes. Yes.
However humans have not evolved and this issue transcends language, and isn't defined by language.

That's the point.

You can argue that the sky is green and water is pink. That doesn't mean something has changed. It means the language to describe the same thing has changed. That's all.

GCAcademic · 12/06/2020 16:01

Neither Watson nor Radcliffe have strong acting abilities, in fact they're both shite in everything.

Rupert Grant is the only one of the three who can act. Has he said anything? His partner has just given birth, mind you, so I imagine he has some comprehension of biological facts.

GCAcademic · 12/06/2020 16:01

Grint that should say. Gah, autocorrect!

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 12/06/2020 16:09

You’re gonna be disappointed GC

But i agree re acting

ShebaShimmyShake · 12/06/2020 16:20

I actually think that silence in this case might be seen as support for Rowling, perhaps indeed because, as you say, he's just become a father. It is nice to imagine that he probably watched his wife/partner through pregnancy and birth, saw what she did, and is a little uneasy at allowing that exclusively female experience to be appropriated by people with penises who say it isn't a cornerstone of womanhood.

I'm choosing to think so unless he says otherwise.

CaveMum · 12/06/2020 16:24

frozen you asked about the stats on crime for transwomen v men last night, I’ve dug up the following for you:

  1. A report showing that, of 125 transgender prisoners in 2018, 52 were sex offenders. So either transgender people are more likely to be sex offenders, or sex offenders have found a loop hole and are claiming to be trans. Because of the “acceptance without exception” mantra we are not allowed to question them or their motives.

  1. Report on a study in Sweden that found that Transwomen had a similar offending rate to men.

Hope this helps.

SecretSpAD · 12/06/2020 16:29

It is possible for two feminists to disagree on a fundamental point about women

Depends. If it is the fundamental point that a biological female is characterised and describes genetically as XX and a biological male js characterised and described genetically as XY then no, it should not be possible for two feminists to disagree on this point. And if one does, then I respectfully recommend that they learn some biology.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 12/06/2020 16:31

Rupert has said something

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 12/06/2020 16:39

I don't believe for a second he believes that. At all. He has a baby daughter for fucks sake!

Another back stabber too scared to say the truth.

And actually this feels more of a betrayal as it's after JKR opened up about her abusive ex.

I feel so fucking fed up with this I could cry.

Damn.

GCAcademic · 12/06/2020 16:45

Of course he doesn’t believe it. No one does, deep down.

ShebaShimmyShake · 12/06/2020 16:46

Well, I guess Rupert's safe, but I wait eagerly to see how many trans people Emma and Radcliffe decide to date.

SarahTancredi · 12/06/2020 16:49

How did "relationship purposes" Robin fare?

RuffleCrow · 12/06/2020 17:32

"We should all be able to live without shame and judgement except jo who i am obviously insanely jealous of because i'm a talentless penis "

SecretSpAD · 12/06/2020 17:56

I don't think the misogynists who threaten violence, rape and call women cunts should be allowed to live without shame and judgement.

Circe2020 · 12/06/2020 17:56

YANBU.

ProfessorSillyStuff · 12/06/2020 18:16

I think the problem is the use of the word gender in the article when the writer meant 'sex'. Gender is just a nonsense. There's no such thing as a pink brain.

Trans women want the right to be spoken to as women or use a different name. I get that, but ultimately its just pronouns and means nothing.

People want the legal right to 'live as a woman". What is that? It's just a caricature. A stereotype. I don't have the legal right to live as a woman. I have to wear jeans every day, because of the workload dumped on me by a society that doesn't make sure men " live as men" I have to learn how to do every "masculine" task whether I want to or not.
I have literally no time to do what I want to do at all.

Its all just a phallacy. One that has been used to control and subjugate women since time immemorial.
