That Eddie Redmayne is a self serving privileged prick?

Where was he when he took the part in the Danish Girl that could have gone to a trans woman and elevated an actor who otherwise has no options open to them? AIBU in thinking Eddie Redmayne is jumping on a misogynistic bandwagon when he doesn’t actually give a shit about trans people or their rights?

FWIW I do believe there’s a world where women’s rights and trans rights can live side by side and support each other but it speaks volumes that the cis-rich-White-Male-heterosexual parade comes out and tries to antagonise a situation between two social groups that their particular social
Group has oppressed and abused and dehumanised and humiliated for thousands of years? Daniel Radcliffe is no better - his response to the original JKR tweet even only refers to transwomen and doesn’t even mention transmen!!!

They say they all need to just listen and be educated when it comes to racism but when it comes to feminism they tell women to sit down and shut up while they mansplain and admonish, fuck them

But the abuse is coming from violent men

Not solely from violent men, but yes, largely.

Why is no one focussing on stopping male violence?

Because feminists and transgender people are to busy being at loggerheads with each other over the rights each one has to be safe and comfortable, rather than joining together and targeting the actual need for a fight to be safe and comfortable.

Ninkanink · 11/06/2020 10:14

Your views on the two camps you’re setting up against each other here are woefully simplistic and uninformed. You do not actually have any understanding of the topic you’re discussing, that’s plainly obvious from what you’re saying. If you want to participate in robust discussion you need to know what you’re talking about so that your arguments are not so lacking as to be completely redundant.

HTH.

Ninkanink · 11/06/2020 10:15

Above is in reply to Lemon

Helmetbymidnight · 11/06/2020 10:15

Have you seen how much abuse transgender people, and anyone who supports them gets also.
It's not all one sided.

Do you think Eddie Redmayne, DR, EW and Luna are being told to choke on dick, to die in a grease pan fire etc, etc?

Really? You actually think that?

And you think its women who are saying that to them?

Unbelievable.

MilkshakeandFries · 11/06/2020 10:15

@NotTerfNorCis 🙌🏼 100% agree.

As soon as comments like "suck my dick TERF bitch" and death threats are made, arguments are lost and opinions are irrelevant.

Temp123999 · 11/06/2020 10:17

@TheNavigator
Completely agree with your comments Daniel Radcliffe was a good child actor but totally mediocre now.
Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.
I commented on Twitter supporting JK Rowling
and I was told by a white man that I should be ashamed of my prejudice as I'm black!!

Helmetbymidnight · 11/06/2020 10:17

Pretending that women are sending rape and murder threats to Daniel Radcliffe, Eddie Redmayne and Emma Watson is just fucking outrageous.

timetest · 11/06/2020 10:18

All the rape threats against a woman who dares to speak out for women. Masculinity at its most toxic and violent.

poorbuthappy · 11/06/2020 10:19

I can't get my head round if TWAW then it was ok for a bloke to play a TW but it wasn't ok for a woman....surely if TWAW then only a woman can play a TW?

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/06/2020 10:21

I think a lot of these people are contractually obligated to take a particular side on various social issues. For example if I still worked for my last employer i would have had to sign within my contract that I agreed with lots of principles I didn’t agree with as that was the stance of the organisation. Emma Watson isn’t just an actor, she has various contracts with all sorts of companies so even if she felt like siding with JKR, she couldn’t.

The likes of Eddie Redmayne and Daniel Radcliffe, well it’s even easier for those males to side with other predominantly young, white males as they have no lived experience. There’s no emotional reaction to the claims they support.

Deadringer · 11/06/2020 10:21

Just curious really, but if only trans actors should play trans parts, and i have no issue with that, it makes sense, should trans actors not then be considered for 'regular' roles? Genuine question. Unlike the other twats that tweeted against Rowling at least Redmayne can act, the others are all mediocre at best.

ShiveringCoyote · 11/06/2020 10:22

Oh so stopping male violence is up to women and transgender people then. Ok got that. Yet more grunt work.
Or how about Eddie Redmayne and Daniel Radcliffe and all the woke blokes call out male violence because it's a male problem. A penis haver problem. An XY chromosome problem. Instead of wading into something that has fuck all to do with them, a bit like Rich Whitey McWhitePerson speaking on behalf of black people.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2020 10:22

What prodigal said.
Honestly these actors “speaking up” are an embarrassment now. Emma Watson telling people to “donate to Mermaids” ....well that is someone who has done her research...not.
I almost feel sorry for them, but I am too furious that this is the response to an intelligent and dignified woman speaking about violence and sexual assault. It is shameful. Shame on you Redmayne, Watson, Radcliffe. Shame on you.

JemimaShore · 11/06/2020 10:22

YANBU. Totally sick of the men weighing into this argument and telling women what they should be thinking, negating women's opinions on their own lived experiences, and judging them guilty of 'wrongthink'.

YinMnBlue · 11/06/2020 10:23

Redmayne as a Cis man got paid a huge sum of money to play a Trans person.

How dare he lecture JKR on having an opinion about her own sexual and gender identity?

Ninkanink · 11/06/2020 10:24

He is not a cis man. He is a man. Don’t use their language, it is always a trap.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2020 10:24

Please do not use the term “Cis”. It is offensive.

MockersGuidedByTheScience · 11/06/2020 10:30

Whatever else Eddie Redmayne might be (see OP title), he is not a molecule in a chemistry lab.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2020 10:31

I am also still reeling that there are so many people so staggeringly stupid that they read “people who have periods are women” and turn it into “she said people who don’t have periods are not women”.

OliveKitteridgeAgain · 11/06/2020 10:31

Here is a link to the twitter account of Claire Graham, a woman with an intersex condition, who would very much like the trans lobby to stop using her to prop up their misogyny:

twitter.com/ClareCAIS?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

And here are Claire and Miranda Yardley - a trans woman - in discussion with Benjamin Boyce. Miranda is amazing, a fully transitioned trans woman who doesn't believe her gender dysphoria and operations magically turned her into a biological woman. Miranada has also been the target of the sort of hate that JKR has been getting, and worse; she has been taken to court on the spurious grounds of anti-trans hate speech - a claim that was swiftly thrown out of court. Transwomen like Miranda who have had the full gender re-assignment surgery are called TRUSCUM by the trans lobby who want self ID passed into law. Self ID being, "I am a woman because I say so, I don't need hormones or an operation, I don't need to "live as a woman", or present as one through dress etc."

MashedPotatoBrainz · 11/06/2020 10:32

YANBU. Totally sick of the men weighing into this argument and telling women what they should be thinking, negating women's opinions on their own lived experiences, and judging them guilty of 'wrongthink'.

Not just men. I've seen quite a few women online saying how they understand JKR's position now and we should be kind as it's not her fault her thinking is so wrong, her trauma has messed up her brain and once she gets that fixed she'll think right again. It's just awful.

araiwa · 11/06/2020 10:35

If an author of childrens books is allowed to express an opinion why cant an actor?

If a woman can express an opinion on trans, why cant a man?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/06/2020 10:39

Men can express an opinion on trans. What they can’t do is tell women that the impact of self ID on women doesn’t matter. Nor can they define for women what being a woman means.

Collidascope · 11/06/2020 10:39

I feel utter contempt for the three of them: Radcliffe, Watson and Redmayne. They know the shit she's getting. They know the people sending her rape and death threats are riding high on a wave of righteousness and they stick their oars in to basically say, "yes, you're right." No condemnation of the abuse she's received. Fucking cowards.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 11/06/2020 10:40

Hmmm, now words I absolutely haven't said are being put in my mouth and I'm being shouted down as being uneducated and having no understanding, despite me not mentioning anything to do with my education/experience.

Gosh I'm so surprised Hmm

Its almost like Twitter on here sometimes.
