That Eddie Redmayne is a self serving privileged prick?

Where was he when he took the part in the Danish Girl that could have gone to a trans woman and elevated an actor who otherwise has no options open to them? AIBU in thinking Eddie Redmayne is jumping on a misogynistic bandwagon when he doesn’t actually give a shit about trans people or their rights?

FWIW I do believe there’s a world where women’s rights and trans rights can live side by side and support each other but it speaks volumes that the cis-rich-White-Male-heterosexual parade comes out and tries to antagonise a situation between two social groups that their particular social
Group has oppressed and abused and dehumanised and humiliated for thousands of years? Daniel Radcliffe is no better - his response to the original JKR tweet even only refers to transwomen and doesn’t even mention transmen!!!

They say they all need to just listen and be educated when it comes to racism but when it comes to feminism they tell women to sit down and shut up while they mansplain and admonish, fuck them

OP posts:
OliveKitteridgeAgain · 11/06/2020 10:41

For the love of god, JKR was expressing her opinions about PERIODS which are experienced only by biological women. It was the translobby that weighed in and called her transphobic for doing so. They drew her into defending biological reality, then called her transphobic for doing so. There is nothing controversial about what she said.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 11/06/2020 10:42

Have you seen how much abuse transgender people, and anyone who supports them gets also. It's not all one sided.

Tell me, who's sending this abuse? Is it feminists? Or is it yet more misogynistic and homophobic males?

Read the comments in response to JKR, and the responses to Eddie Redmayne. You really think that the people are responding in similarly abusive ways to both? How about a simple count - how many times has JKR been told to 'choke on a dick' and how many times has Eddie? You can scale it by total responses if you like

WonderWebbs · 11/06/2020 10:43

@Luaa This is exactly how I feel.

ATomeOfOnesOwn · 11/06/2020 10:44

He is a self-serving prick but what I think is even worse is that both him and Daniel are actually misogynists and bullies. If they knew enough about what had happened to comment then they also knew their views were supporting and encouraging a shit tonne of abuse. They knew their comments would embolden all the DIAF; suck my cock; Kill the T@%% posters. And yet they still felt the need to get involved.
It wasn't their conversation. It isn't their fight. It's about women's rights. All they had to do was stay in their lane but instead they stoked the fires and handed out the pitchforks. They should be ashamed. And if I was the mother, gf or wife of either of them, I would be bloody livid with them.

littlbrowndog · 11/06/2020 10:47

Yeah collidscope

So much hate sent her way. Suck my dick die cunt die bitch you old dried up pussy haver

Thousands and thousands such as the above

I had to stop reading the hate that men were sending her as it was so awful

Why did these actors not condem this outpouring of hate against a woman

YinMnBlue · 11/06/2020 10:48

Ninkanink and vix

Fair points contained in your posts but please do not tell me what language to use.

As it happens my belief is that actors are actors and acting is just that and should not, in an ideal world, be restricted to identity politics in how casting is decided.

However, the concept of ‘Cis’ is exactly the concept that TRAs and their lap dogs like Redmayne use to justify the whole TWAW fiction.

‘Cis’ is not a word I use in my life, but I pay MN the compliment of understanding irony. Perhaps I was over optimistic.

Point out the pit falls if ‘Cis’ ad a concept and a label, but please do not tell me how to post. Telling people how to post is, if you like, a dangerous trap, and offensive.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/06/2020 10:49

To those who believe both were right to 'stand up to JKR and her comments', please help me to understand, having read all she said, why you believe what she said was wrong?

I'm genuinely wanting to understand your view as I cannot see how what she said was offensive.

I'm queuing in Aldi to pay for my shopping so have time to listen Grin

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2020 10:49

And Emma Watson an Ambassador for women and girls. What a joke that is.

Ninkanink · 11/06/2020 10:50

I will challenge language that explicitly seeks to erase the absolute truth of my biological sex wherever I see it. If you wish to see that as offensive, that is your prerogative.

dadshere · 11/06/2020 10:51

All of this crap, that a trans person is the only person who can play a trans person in a film is stupid. It is called acting for a reason. By the same logic, only a non-trans person could play a non-trans person massively reducing the roles available to trans folk.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 11/06/2020 10:52

Tell me, who's sending this abuse? Is it feminists? Or is it yet more misogynistic and homophobic males?

Both. And in my real life and lived experience feminists are actually a whole lot more verbally abusive towards transgender people. Although this isnt representative of online abuse and threats.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2020 10:52

No it wasn’t at all clear from your post that you were using “cis” in an ironic way. It is an offensive term used to place women as sub group of their own sex.

TreeTopTim · 11/06/2020 10:54

Emma Watson has enraged me more. Mermaids fucking Mermaids. Seriously Angry

Collidascope · 11/06/2020 10:57

Yeah, I'm not going near Twitter for a while. It's never a nice place but the scale of abuse for a woman who has given away hundreds of millions to charity, who has given away a free story and hours of feedback for children's illustrations which she encouraged them to send her to ease the pressures of lockdown for parents - I'll be honest, I really can't cope with seeing that.
I can understand people being too scared to speak up with her. What I can't comprehend is oiling the coals in her head and not saying one word about the hateful abuse she is getting. That's unforgivable to me, and I can't see why that side isn't getting media attention.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 11/06/2020 10:57

Both. And in my real life and lived experience feminists are actually a whole lot more verbally abusive towards transgender people.

I have never seen a feminist posing with an axe or a baseball bat. Or suggest it's fine to punch someone because their views make them not human. I've never seen a feminist tell a trans person to 'suck a dick' or send rape and murder threats, or hammer on the windows while trans people try to have a peaceful meeting.

What absolute garbage that feminists are more verbally abusive - and what a side-step to completely ignore the physical threats and abuse (how many feminists have been convicted of assaulting transpeople?)

Collidascope · 11/06/2020 10:57

*piling the coals on her head

ChaToilLeam · 11/06/2020 10:59

Watson is a disgrace. Radcliffe and Radmayne too. Spineless, opportunistic and ignorant, the lot of them. I doubt they have even read Rowling’s statement properly.

Ninkanink · 11/06/2020 11:02

I have never threatened anyone with violence of any kind. I have never abused anyone, verbally or physically. I have never sought to intimidate, harass or denigrate any other human being, male or female. Neither has any other woman or feminist that I am acquainted with.

Women being assertive, angry at injustice and calmly but fiercely seeking to protect themselves and challenge overt male supremacist oppression = abusive.

littlbrowndog · 11/06/2020 11:02

Yeah what happened to #bekind

Nopes now twitter lets targeted hate speech and misogynistic speech towards any woman now who dares to speak

Why dont news media speak out about this.

It’s like hate is fine as long as it is against women

And she wrote such a amazing article, well thought out

No hate to anyone at all in her article 🤷‍♀️

ShiveringCoyote · 11/06/2020 11:03

What's these threats and abuse feminists are hurling at transgender people?

SoupDragon · 11/06/2020 11:05

Yeah what happened to #bekind

It's clearly alive and well on this thread and all the others like it.

Oh, wait...

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 11/06/2020 11:06

I haveneverseen a feminist posing with an axe or a baseball bat. Or suggest it's fine to punch someone because their views make them not human. As I said, my lived experiences arent representative of online abuse, but I have seen the abuse with my own eyes. I also never once denied that men and TRAs are a massive problem. Of course they are. That doesn't mean that women arent also a massive part of the issue towards transgender people too, they really are.

Helmetbymidnight · 11/06/2020 11:08

No condemnation of the abuse she's received.

That has really outraged me. That would be the first thing you'd do, isn't it? I can't understand why they didn't.
Well, I can - They're caught up in the pretence 'it works both ways' and the lie that women are sending rape and death threats to TRA's.

ShiveringCoyote · 11/06/2020 11:08

#bekind only applies to women. Men get to say die in a grease fire, suck my dick, die scum etc.

Helmetbymidnight · 11/06/2020 11:10

I'm on twitter - I've never once seen women send TRA's - choke on my cock tweets. I've never seen shut the fuck up cunts. etc etc.

Keep on lying.
