To ask what is the point of Apple Pay

Apple Pay charges the card registered to it, right? So what is the advantage over just using the card? What am I not seeing here?

Means you don't have to have your card with you.

No purse needed, just take your phone

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 10/06/2020 14:40

You don’t need to carry the physical card(s)

AppleKatie · 10/06/2020 14:40

It’s quicker!

GreenTulips · 10/06/2020 14:41

Take your phone

Also accepted as payment online so you don’t need to enter your card details

You can use it to get cash out of the machines

You can also use it to split bills for restaurants

BusterTheBulldog · 10/06/2020 14:41

It’s great, means if you’re out for run or walk you can just pay with phone (or watch). I barely take my purse out at all these days!

GreenTulips · 10/06/2020 14:41

Oh and you can send money to a phone number rather than their bank details

WishUponAStar88 · 10/06/2020 14:42

It means you don’t need your card and no maximum payments (unlike contactless card payments)

ErickBroch · 10/06/2020 14:42

I don't have to dig my purse out my bag and get my card out then put it back away after. I literally tap a button and pay instantly. Very convenient and I barely use my card anymore.

TheDogsMother · 10/06/2020 14:42

Also has no payment limit unlike contactless card.

jcurve · 10/06/2020 14:43

During COVID, you don’t need to touch the buttons on the card machine, you just wave your phone. Apple Pay doesn’t have a £45 limit like a contactless card.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 10/06/2020 14:43

I don't get the appeal. But I still use cash to track what I'm spending so I am not their target audience.

jcurve · 10/06/2020 14:44

Also, if you catch the tube you can use Apple Transit which is ultra fast at tapping in - quicker than a bank or oyster card, with no finger print required.

Purpleartichoke · 10/06/2020 14:44

I don’t have to take my wallet out. It now sits in the bottom of my bag and is rarely used. I just slide my phone out and click. It has become extra advantageous amid the pandemic because there is no physical contact.

trumpisaflump · 10/06/2020 14:47

I bloody love it. In fact I get quite irritated by those that don't have it when I see them fumbling for their purse 😆 Or if someone doesn't buy a coffee or something small as they've forgotten to bring their card out with them but have their phone. I didn't know you could transfer money to a phone number though! Great

HoomanMoomin · 10/06/2020 14:47

What do you mean by “charges”? You mean money? Because it doesn’t cost anything.

hm246 · 10/06/2020 14:52

Apple Pay doesn’t charge you to use it. It’s much easier then having to take cards and a purse out

RedSoloCup · 10/06/2020 14:53

It does have a limit in some places where I work the limit was £30 pre lockdown so better to check.

Graciebobcat · 10/06/2020 14:53

I use Google Pay. It means I can have a much smaller purse as any reward cards and bank/credit cards are on there.

Apart from stupid Barclays Bank who insist on having their own system and are not on G Pay, you daft numpties.

Has also had lots of advantages in lockdown as it isn't (unless the shop imposes it) subject to the £45 contactless spending limit. So you don't have to touch anything other than your phone.

I find it even easier to keep track of spending with it than with online banking.

SimonJT · 10/06/2020 14:54

No limit like contactless, I have an apple watch so I don’t even have to get my phone out, very convenient for shops but also the tube etc.

Billyjoearmstrong · 10/06/2020 14:54

I love it.

Easier online shopping and I pay for everything out and about on my apple watch.

mylittlesandwich · 10/06/2020 14:55

I've been using mine recently so that even when I do the big shop I don't need to touch the card reader. Contactless cats payments have a limit. Also because I have my Apple Watch I don't need to dig around in my bag for anything.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 10/06/2020 14:56

It’s great! Have access to funds if you forget your purse. No limit contactless in most places. Don’t need to fumble around in bag for purse

Abbccc · 10/06/2020 14:56

I just put some coins in my pocket before I leave the house,,then in the shop I put my hand in my pocket, pick up the coins and give them to the person at the till. Really easy.

OneHanded · 10/06/2020 14:59

I keep my phone on a cord on my neck so it’s easier than digging for my card wallet in my pocket, I ALWAYS walk off without my cards too because I’ll rest it on the pin machine whilst I bag pack/lift my bag onto my shoulder, plus you never have the ‘too many taps’ thing either.

OneForMeToo · 10/06/2020 15:01

Oh I didn’t realise there wasn’t a limit so still lug around my purse for Aldi I need to investigate this.
