A greedy bastard breakfast

SquishyBones · 09/06/2020 20:34

I was speaking to an old friend this morning who laughed and asked if I still had greedy bastard breakfasts. I asked what he was on about and he started going on about what I used to eat really laughing and banging on and exagurating saying I used to eat a couple of boxes of cereal and 2 loaves of bread etc.

What I actually had was a bowl of cereal, toast, a yogurt and a banana. This is what he called a greedy bastard breakfast. I feel like he’s been taking the piss out of me for years for this but never had the balls to bring it up with me.

My old manager was about 31 stone and had issues with food, he always commented on what I ate

Yes, IME its the people commenting about eating who tend to have the issues.

The idea being irritated by a rude idiot means the OP must have "issues' is laughable.

Aweebawbee · 10/06/2020 08:40

Your old friend is just winding you up, sounds like normal banter to me. Is there a reason why you are sensitive about it?

LycraLovingLass · 10/06/2020 08:42

The only thing I am taking away from the thread is that some people actually seem to eat the recommended portion if cereal Blush I am calorie counting at the moment and if I have cereal I have to load up 2 portions because there is no way 30 or 40g of anything is enough!

BruceAndNosh · 10/06/2020 08:57

Can't be be a greedy bastard breakfast without bacon.

UnfinishedSymphon · 10/06/2020 09:19

@lyralalala

The competitive horror on here when people mention food is hilarious.

I eat a similar size breakfast to the OP and have lost 8 stones in the last couple of years. I get massively amused when people comment on my ridiculous breakfast, especially when they have a decent size breakfast and then spend the entire day snacking. I have a a big breakfast, a big lunch and a small dinner. It’s made the biggest difference to my weight, more than any diet has

This.

I've now lost 9 stone and am at my goal weight of 8 stone, today's breakfast is a small bowl of porridge which I've just eaten and I'm about to make my 2 poached eggs on wholemeal toast and skinny latte. I've eaten this, or variations of this most weekdays for 2 years, Sunday is my big breakfast where I have a grill up - bacon, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans and toast and a skinny latte.

macaroniandpizza · 10/06/2020 09:21

Eat what the hell you want for breakfast and sod what anyone thinks op if it works for you having what you do for breakfast then carry on :) fwiw i dont think its a big breakfast it sounds fine

Wejustdontknow · 10/06/2020 09:32

I am always amazed by how little people seem to eat on mn, although it will vary for everyone depending on how much exercise/work they do, metabolism and what else they eat in the day. I have a high metabolism and also do a physical job in a typical day I have special k with a sliced banana and nuts added at 4:45 with a glass of orange juice before work, at 9:15 I have a tub of overnight oats made from Greek yogurt with honey, oats and mixed berries, lunch at 12:30 will be either a small jacket potato with beans and cheese or poached eggs on toast or a sandwich with crisps then a yogurt for afters, snack at around 3, yesterday was a scone with butter and jam then tea around 6:30 such as pasta bake, fajitas or other homemade teas with plenty of veg. To most on here that would seem like an awful lot of food but other than the snack I need the rest to keep my energy up. I am a vey healthy weight, and of slim build

BarbaraofSeville · 10/06/2020 10:04

I thought breakfast was meant to be the biggest meal of the day

It is, that's not much food at all, and quite insubstantial too. Those of you who think it's a massive breakfast, aren't you permanently starving if that's all you eat in the morning?

And the carb police have been surprisingly absent from this thread. Imagine fruit (carbs), toast (carbs) and cereal (carbs) all at the same time Shock. Perhaps they have all fainted at such a horrifying thought?

Pukkatea · 10/06/2020 10:17

I would eat that for breakfast as well as a proper lunch, dinner and snacks. Legitimately confused at people who could eat a yoghurt and a banana for breakfast - that's less than I'd give a toddler. Fair enough some people aren't hungry in the morning, but that would just make me more hungry!

LycraLovingLass · 10/06/2020 10:28

@BarbaraofSeville I love triple carbs!

I had a potato curry, rice and nann on Monday and it was carb heaven.

jomaIone · 10/06/2020 10:39

Wow. My family breakfast at the weekend is...

Fruit salad - usually grapefruit, oranges, berries, melon
Greek yoghurt, granola, honey
Cooked breakfast - 3 bacon, 2 fried eggs, roast mushrooms and tomatoes, 1 toast
1 Toast and jam
Coffee or tea

It's amazing, and admittedly more brunch but no one is so stuffed they can't move, and everyone is happy!

I am very surprised by the amount of people here who think that's a huge breakfast!

SpringSpringTime · 10/06/2020 12:38

Yes to all the pps backing a big breakfast! Surely that's when you need to fuel up. I'm thin (BMI under 19) and I always eat the most for breakfast, and the most carbs then. Lunch is more of a mix and evening meal is light. No snacks, no meat, minimal sugar. I've weighed the same give or take half a stone (and discounting pregnancy) since I was 18.

Weallfloatdownhere · 10/06/2020 12:57

I find it hilarious that people need to ask if the cereal goes soggy while eating toast, or the toast goes cold whilst eating cereal Confused, make one first, then the other. It’s not a complicated concept!!

GimmeAy · 10/06/2020 13:38

Actually, for our sedentary lifestyles, fasting is considered better for us than the old school of eating massive breakfasts.
Very different if you're working in a physically strenuous job.
If you're not accustomed to large portions, you feel uncomfortably (even painfully) full and a little sluggish if you eat a massive amount.

Amazing how those criticising my breakfast are the very ones on their high horses for what I commented. Hypocrites. Practise what you preach.

I couldn't literally fit all that amount in - since as some previous posters have mentioned, most Brits eat huge portions. If it's a small bowl of cereal, one slice of toast, yeah, I could manage that if I hadn't eaten late the night before, but I'd need that to settle and digest before I shoved a banana and yoghurt in.

As pp's mentioned - it's up to all of us to manage our intake over the day however suits us. I usually have no appetite first thing in the morning, but come 10-11am, I'm hungry - hence the need for savoury. (I prefer savoury to sweet).

Cam2020 · 10/06/2020 15:29

So rude to comment on what other people eat if its not invited.

DisobedientHamster · 10/06/2020 15:43

Smoking? No, thanks.

I couldn't literally fit all that amount in

Of course not when there's a fag in your mouth and it's also well-known that smoking is an appetite-suppressant. Your diet sounds awful, about 1000-1200 calories and low on nutrients. On top of smoking which is one of the worse things you can do for your health.

Ponoka7 · 10/06/2020 15:57

I don't buy in cereal, but when I'm babysitting I love soggy cereal.

We need a set amount of calories a day, or over three days (that's how some people maintain their weight), it doesn't matter how you split them up and it's no one else's business.

Bluntness100 · 10/06/2020 16:04

Some folks are really really defensive about how much they eat.

All folks have said is they think it’s a lot or not usual to eat a brekkie of that size every day, and we have a whole bunch of posters having a hissy fit about it. From accusations of competitive under eating to a fear of food and how ashamed people should be for not eating that much, we’ve even got someone encouraging a greedy bastard breakfast Thread on a Sunday so folks can post just how much they’ve over eaten.

As soon as food is mentioned it’s like some form of trigger on here.

Magicrose · 10/06/2020 16:07

It’s none of his business and a bit rude but you really shouldn’t let it upset you. Anyway that’s not a greedy bastard breakfast, a greedy bastard breakfast would include a fry up at the very least. And some pancakes. Funny to see all the competitive under-eaters falling over themselves to declare that anything more than half a grapefruit is too much for breakfast Grin

Bluntness100 · 10/06/2020 16:08

I think what’s funnier is you imagined that.

ChaChaChinggg2819 · 10/06/2020 16:12

Id be offended if an old friend said that to me. I don't think that is a massive breakast

It's all relative, some people wake up ravenous and really enjoy a large breakfast. Others can't stomach food for an hour or so then just pick at a piece of toast or something

I dont really eat breakfast, if i do it might be a piece of toast

DD5 will have a small bowl of cereal
DS3 will have 2 pieces of toast, a banana and a cup of Apple juice & then starts asking for chocolate as soon as he's finished Grin

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 10/06/2020 16:16

Nothing involving yogurt or a banana constitutes a greedy bastard breakfast in my house, that's health food.
I bloody love the competitive food threads on here.
I think I'll grab some popcorn and chocolate and cake and crisps ....

WorraLiberty · 10/06/2020 16:38

So whether someone is greedy or not, depends on the quality of food?

Not that I think the OP is greedy, as to me 'greed' is taking more than your fair share and leaving others short.

But to me (and I realise it's a personal thing), that is a very large breakfast.

To others who eat more, or feed that amount to their toddlers as a PP does, it's a 'normal' sized breakfast for an adult.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 10/06/2020 16:51

Don't overthink it Worra.
I forget how often we now need to write something along the lines of 'lighthearted' before something is pounced upon these days. Hmm

HMBB · 10/06/2020 17:06

I am suddenly very hungry
