To ask your actual waist measurement rather than what you think it is

I've just measured my waist and it's 34 inches. My jeans btw are size 32 so they are lying to me. And the NHS say I should have a waist measuring under 31.5" Blush What is yours ?

Most of the answers say 20 something inches....loads around 24-26 inches.....that doesn't seem right. What do people think?

I think on a thread like this, you are likely to get a disproportionate number of responses from small waisted people.

Mine is 24 too.

fedup2017 · 09/06/2020 09:08

I don't understand this either -my BMI is 20. I'm 5 ft 6 and wear a size 10. I consider myself "fit" ( can run 10 miles at a decent pace for example without too much bother). However my waist is 31! I don't go in at all. In fact I've just checked and there is only 1.5inches between the bottom of my ribs and top of.my hips. Maybe I'm just a strange shape?!?

I don't think so. I have noticed that keen runners do tend to have a less defined waist and narrower hips. I think it's a physique that just lends itself to running.

Mummiepig · 09/06/2020 10:50

25 inches, I wear an 8,
Was 24 before before lockdown 6/8

I'm a similar shape , though bigger and les fit.
kitschplease · 09/06/2020 11:23

Where should I measure? Mine is always 34+, although I'm 6 foot and look skinny (even if I'm not!) with a tummy.
I can't see how it would be healthy for me and my 5 foot pal to have the same waist measurement, but maybe I'm in denial :D I wear size 12 to 14 clothes.

laudete · 09/06/2020 11:24

25"

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 09/06/2020 11:25

I have a 27 inch waist and 40 inch hips. I’ve always been this shape. I’m 10 stone 4 and 5.7. People usually describe me as curvy, but I think they actually mean curvy rather than it being a euphemism!

DuesToTheDirt · 09/06/2020 11:28

Around 30-31". Size 10, 5'7" and 9st 9, BMI 21.3. I've never had a small waist and short of starvation there's not much I can do about it.

nevermorelenore · 09/06/2020 11:30

I need to see my GP apparently. I'm sure they'll love that when there's a pandemic going on.

lubeybooby · 09/06/2020 11:33

sizing has definitely gone mad in the last 25 years

I used to measure 38 28 38, my BMI was 28 and was a size 14 to 16, more often a 16

Now I measure 40 31 39, my BMI is 29.5 and somehow I fit into a 12. A rigid 12, not even stretchy. And 12's from a few different shops.

lubeybooby · 09/06/2020 11:33

the first set of measurements and bmi was from 1997

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/06/2020 11:36

31

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/06/2020 11:39

31" which is slightly more than usual. I wear roughly size 12 at the top and a 10 at the bottom although I actually make my own clothes. I've put on a few pounds lately although my clothes still fit, I think the extra weight is a few handfuls round the middle.

Xylophonics · 09/06/2020 11:46

38 . I recently plugged my measurements into Google and according to asos my waist is size 20, hips 14 and bust 12.
However I wear a size 14.. I can't wear dresses.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/06/2020 11:52

About 28-29" at the moment. Normally 27-29"

I've got a couple of (unwearable) vintage 70s & 80s dreses that are a heavy cotton, size 10 with 26" waist. I'm a modern size 8 on the top half. My jeans always slump because I have to buy them for 35" hips and muscular thighs. 32" bust (29" under ribs) and buying a decent bra is hard work, normally have to make do with 32B which a lot of places don't do anyway, but really I need a bigger cup and smaller back.

Mauhea · 09/06/2020 12:00

31 (which I'm pretty chuffed with!) down from 36 when I started slimming in January. I'm 5'5 and wear a 12-14 but I'm not sure which size suits be best seeing as a chunk of my figure changing weight loss has been during lockdown.

Juno231 · 09/06/2020 12:01

@kitschplease at the narrowest point - usually around an inch or two above your belly button.

Mine's 29 but used to be 27 so I'm working on that at the moment!

RosesandAnts · 09/06/2020 12:03

@frenchfancy81 I agree. It doesn’t sound right at all. Unless most are are teenagers Wink.

Plancina · 09/06/2020 12:12

Mine is 28 - am a size 8 or sometimes 6 on top and a 10 on the bottom as I carry all my weight on hips and bum. Waist used to be 26 but have put on a stone in lockdown and am now the very top of healthy BMI for my height (5 ft 2). I am 34 but I have no DC and I wonder if this is a factor as my sister says she has never gone back to 26 inch waist even though she weighs the same as she did before having my DNeph

Immunity · 09/06/2020 12:20

Comparing your jean size to your actual size doesn't really work when jeans come in such a limited size range and don’t allow for curvy figures.
I have 29 waist 44 hips and I’m tall and I live in leggings or high waisted trousers that I can tuck something into.

frumpety · 09/06/2020 12:25

I don't have a waist anymore but have measured the middle bit of me where it used to be and it is 50 inches, eek ! According to that body fat tool I am 60% fat, I am essentially the human equivalent of belly pork Blush

AhBallix · 09/06/2020 12:27

Oh Gawd, just measured and mine is 34 (and maybe a bit ...) I remember panicking when it reached 30 years ago. I look like a melted candle. I wear a 14, but it's getting snug these days.

Ffsseriously · 09/06/2020 12:29

How on earth do people accurately remember their measurements from 30 years ago?

frumpety · 09/06/2020 12:34

Have got it down to 48 by breathing in a lot ! Grin
