To ask your actual waist measurement rather than what you think it is

I've just measured my waist and it's 34 inches. My jeans btw are size 32 so they are lying to me. And the NHS say I should have a waist measuring under 31.5" Blush What is yours ?

My waist is 26, my hips are 28 so in between sizes and find it difficult to get trousers to fit!

Its odd isn’t it that your actual size doesn’t match up to the size that fits you. I get that sometimes it’s about the fabric or the fit (some people prefer loser or tighter) and your individual shape but I think shops either deliberately or unintentionally miss-size things. But it’s really annoying when shops size things up wrongly - it just makes it hard to find the right size and you end up having to try loads!

@NotNowPlzz

I'd be happier with a normal sized arse I think - I made myself a custom mannequin so I could just sew my own clothes instead of fighting the high street and it was a bit too much of a reality check. Though I'm not this lumpy (I hope)

33 size 14, 58, losing weight tho

feelingverylazytoday · 08/06/2020 22:56

32" I wear size 10 trousers, though I can get into an eight, if they're stretchy.
I've always had a massive waist, even when I was underweight. I don't go in at the sides, I look like a box instead of an hourglass.

ishouldtryabiteachdayy · 08/06/2020 22:56

I'm actually quite tall myself, well 5 ft 9" so I probably don't look as big as I am denial. My waist is like a jelly since baby 2, so could certainly use some improvement. I've been slowly loosing weight myself, just found it quite interesting shocking

27in but I'm happier at 26/26.5

sleepyhead · 08/06/2020 22:59

33 atm. Was 39 a 18 months ago but I'd got it down to 31 up until before bloody lockdown.

It's really annoying being such an apple. I look better in my face with the extra half stone I think but carrying the weight around my abdomen isn't healthy for pushing 50 so id like to get it back down to 31.5.

ishouldtryabiteachdayy · 08/06/2020 23:00

@PurBal mine was 27" when I got married too, back in 2005 ... that didn't last or the marriage !

26-27 inches. BMI 18.5 and wear a size 6-8.

I think I’m slim but not skinny, I’m sure when I was young a 24 inch waist was a size 8 in clothes.

NewbieSM · 08/06/2020 23:02

23/24 inches depending on whether I've indulged a bit too much. But I am only 5 ft 2 and Eurasian so quite a small build, normally wear a size 6

nanbread · 08/06/2020 23:03

Mine's approx 29.5 but I'm a size 8-10 and wear a 27 in jeans although they're all a bit tight since lockdown, this might explain why

Plancina · 08/06/2020 23:05

This may sound very stupid but where do you measure for this? Around bellybutton?

biglittlemedium · 08/06/2020 23:08

Where exactly are you measuring your waists? Around the belly button?

KatyMac · 08/06/2020 23:11

Mine was 27 until about 8-10 years ago I think

Now I am 44, 34, 40- so my hourglass is a bit top heavy

FlamedToACrisp · 08/06/2020 23:11

54" - yay, I win! Oh, wait...Sad

I'm working on my blood pressure and got it down to normal for the last couple of days. I've recently given up smoking and caffeine... At the moment I am eating all day long because I feel I 'need' it. Once I get used to doing without the ciggies and caffeine, the diet is next. No good losing weight if I start smoking again, so I want to feel secure first.

sleepyhead · 08/06/2020 23:12

The narrowest point around your middle wherever that is on you personally.

Skyeshovercraft · 08/06/2020 23:15

Not a clue. My tape measure is for fitting fixtures in my house. I'm a size 10-12 with some discrepancies in the boob area after 3yrs of breast feeding and ever expanding milk funnels. I have a large butt anyway, so I still wear those lovely comfy jeggings from Peacocks!

BurtonHouse · 08/06/2020 23:15

36" waist
35" hips
36" bust
No wonder I can never find a dress to fit 😒

FlamedToACrisp · 08/06/2020 23:15

The link says: "To measure your waist:

  • find the bottom of your ribs and the top of your hips
  • wrap a tape measure around your waist, midway between these points
  • breathe out naturally before taking the measurement"

(Find the bottom of your ribs... hmm... easier said than done Blush)

Firstimemam · 08/06/2020 23:18

I'm a 25" but always been small. I thought baby would change that but didn't, I was the same size again after 6 weeks.

bengalcat · 08/06/2020 23:19

29

BillywigSting · 08/06/2020 23:22

34"

Was 28 pre dc. Then after dc at my very lightest adult weight it was 31 which annoyed me immensely, which is probably part of the reason why it has crept up so much despite dc being 6 now.

Pinkbunny2811 · 08/06/2020 23:22

My tape measure is hanging in my craft cupboard downstairs. I am probably too fat 😃 haha

Greenfinger555 · 08/06/2020 23:23

Mine's 36 inches which is awful Blush thing is, I don't really have a waist- it's just all the same thickness from my ribs to my hips. I'm 5'4" and a size 14 and I'm also on a diet!

PyongyangKipperbang · 08/06/2020 23:23

Find the bottom of your ribs... hmm... easier said than done

Over 18 months I went from a size 20 to a size 10. I found a lump on my side, and I panicked. It was hard, didnt move, didnt hurt but it was big. I had made the appointment at the doctors when I showed me sister. She said "check the other side". I had one there too. Then she pointed out it was my lowest rib :o

It had been so long, I had no idea they went that low!
