I am utterly disgusted by what I have seen in the news.

If someone makes the point that violence is counter productive, that attacking cops in London for a killing in Minnesota is bizarre, that isn't gas lighting. It's avoiding the question. What are these protests meant to achieve? What is the aim?
I am utterly disgusted by people who write off entirely legitimate and necessary protests against racism by focussing on the the minority who are damaging property, as though someone damaging a statue or a flag is on par with institutions that damage thousands upon thousands of lives.

The damaging of property I'm not bothered about. Throwing a brick at a horse and breaking its nose, I am bothered about. What did the horse do to deserve that? How long until these people kill one of the horses or one of the officers? Will anyone care?

There's no need for that. No need to abuse those who are working to protect you.

GreytExpectations · 08/06/2020 10:15

@BovaryX

Cops risk violence as part of their jobs

@GreytExpectations

Does that justify attacking cops in London for a police killing in Minnesota? You sound like you are justifying violence against the police.

And you sound like you are justifying violence against black people. Funny how you ignored half my post about it.
MrsTannyFickler · 08/06/2020 10:15

Why can you only be one or the other.
Racism disgusts me.
I fully support the peaceful protests that were socially distanced.
Thuggery however also disgusts me. There is no justification for alot of yesterdays thuggish behaviour.

AKissAndASmile · 08/06/2020 10:15

A poster said something about white women being the most dangerous demographic to the anti racism movement and when I looked into it I was pretty shocked to see it is the truth. So these angry posts on here just make me roll my eyes.

This tweet today reminded me of it today:

The specific group that MOST feels like these protests have been "mostly people acting unlawfully" is Republican women (65%)

Republican women are also most likely to describe the events as "riots" and to say that Trump's actions in the past week have "mostly decreased tensions"

This is what happens though, therefore those who support the cause, which we all should do, should be outraged at those who have used it as an excuse to vandalise and be violent. Also Khan should be ashamed at the shambles that is his police force.

Using Trump's vocabulary. How precious.

MadameMarie · 08/06/2020 10:16

The vigilante vandals and agitators are just trouble causing scumbags.

The majority of protesters were peaceful but not lawful. It was not a legitimate protest. They were warned about social distancing.

BubblesBuddy · 08/06/2020 10:17

We all know that any protests will involve a number of people who are there for conflict. They go for that. It’s wrong and they should be arrested.

Tianalia · 08/06/2020 10:17

It's basically saying that black people should behave themselves correctly in order for you to care about racism.

Seems to me the majority of people pulling down statues, throwing missiles and bikes at the police are white people. Some virtue signallers, some thugs who don't give a shit about the cause, just an excuse to cause trouble. And it won't help. It will set the gains made over the years back by miles. And for those who did throw bikes, who caused that woman to come off her horse, I hope they are found and I hope they go to prison for it.

AKissAndASmile · 08/06/2020 10:18

I wonder why Khan is so vilified when it's the Torys that have been in power the past decade. Qwhite interesting 🤔
@GreytExpectations

You think that there is a comparison between policing in the US and the UK? There isn't. Why is a killing in Minnesota being used to justify violence in London? What are the aims of the protest in London? Do you imagine everyone from a BAME background has a monolithic view on this? Do not make assumptions about my ethnicity. I am from an ethnic background. I think these protests are destructive. What positive outcome will be achieved by violent protests and denying that they are violent?
Please tell me you don't think there isnt racism in the UK? There certainly is. This is not just about America. Protestors are protesting the racism here too. There have been situations of police brutality of black people in the UK. We are only fortunate because the police aren't armed here. Can't believe someone of a "ethnic background" (horrible phrase BTW) could be that ignorant.

Tangerrenie · 08/06/2020 10:19

the number of black women who die in childbirth, 5 times the rate for white mothers

And many people, of all ethnicities, have been working tirelessly to bring this to the fore and try to address why this is the case, and ensure that teaching/training is inclusive of the sometimes unique ways in which pregnancy issues and symptoms manifest in black women; and to level out access to healthcare for all. People should be angry about these statistics, but they should also be aware that there is change being pushed and supporting that is probably of more benefit than the minority who are tarnishing it.

AKissAndASmile · 08/06/2020 10:20

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus I feel really sorry for your DC if that is the case

MadameMarie · 08/06/2020 10:21

Take the law into your own hands and attack police and damage property makes you a violent criminal and an anti social disorder vigilante. Colour or creed is beside the point.

Those guilty need to be charged and jailed if necessary.

Figmentofmyimagination · 08/06/2020 10:22

In fact Mrs Pankhurst directed that the violent protests should cease for the duration of the war because it would be better for the cause to be seen to recognise a wider national interest in defeating the enemy.

Not really, are you aware of how the strategic direction of the Met is set?

Did Khan bin 20 thousand police officers and cut the police to the bone the last 10 years? Or was it the Tories?

Nope, but numbers weren't the issue in London yesterday.

CorianderLord · 08/06/2020 10:26

@madamemarie I mean, while I don't approve of violence, white people said the exact same thing during the Civil Rights Movement. Rosa Parks was a criminal back then.

BovaryX · 08/06/2020 10:27

@GreytExpectations

There is racism in every country in the world. I have lived in many, I have experienced it from a variety of directions. I am viewing the situation in the UK from a distance. And many aspects 3this,
what is amplified, what is dismissed, what international events are highlighted, which are ignored indicative of a Western centric fixation. By the way, thanks for thinking you get to police the way I describe my background. I should have submitted to your approval for how I describe myself.

R1R2 · 08/06/2020 10:27

@Stuckforthefourthtime

Is a London cop with a broken collarbone, broken ribs and a collapsed lung property

Of course not, and the perpetrators should be prosecuted.
Presumably you are equally incensed about the number of black women who die in childbirth, 5 times the rate for white mothers, or the fact that BAME people have 2 or more times the risk of dying from coronavirus, driven significantly by systemic inequality? Because those people were killed by racism. That's a big part of the reason why people are so upset, and that's why they're shouting Black Lives Matter. The death of George Floyd is just a videoed and directly observed expression of another death of a black person that wouldn't have happened if they were white.

Really? www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/aug/02/dallas-police-officers-video-bodycam-tony-timpa

Doesnt matter who you are if you're poor you dont fucking matter to these people.
