Am I alone here?

I am utterly disgusted by what I have seen in the news.

but the unions and some head teachers are saying its not safe for the children back to school ??? lots of parents don't want their children to go back - so what is the answer?

I think anyone caught on protests (just during the pandemic) should have their furlough withdrawn . Or fined .

No problem with peaceful protests AFTER the pandemic is over .

@Tellmetruth4

I don't quite understand your argument ?

firstly science has not yet proved why certain people are more likely to experience severe symptoms ? It could be to do with blood groups for example and people with diabetes ( irrespective of race ) are more vunerable and elderly ( irrespective of wealth )

But if you know better and think its to do with living conditions high density population where is the logic in attending protests with thousands in close proximity ?

science is also investigating why New York has 30 thousand deaths with a population of 8.9million as opposed to the UK with around 40000 deaths with a population of around 70million- it is now suspected it could be to do with a mutation of the virus making it more infectious - nothing to do with the demographics of the population of New York

why are posters all such experts when the scientists are still learning themselves.

I’m assuming by your lame response you have NO medical knowledge. I do understand people are worried and rightly so. But for me and other recent threads on here that I read before have come to the conclusion that COVID is not going any where

I’ve been working throughout & my DC attended school throughout.

If shops can open the children should be back to school in September.

The amount of damage that is been done and people are like “the risk is not low enough”. What are you waiting for a miracle Sad

The BLM protests were cancelled due to racist groups saying they would come up.. the racists went anyway, ironically there are photos of them passing against war statues they claim others disrespected, they assaulted a female police officer and started fights and were giving Nazi salutes.

So this thread returns, but in response to a very different protest, a protest for the right to be racist. There was a violent majority on this occasion. Yet, I don't hear the same level of outrage...? Does a violent protest full of hate and rage sit more comfortably than 99.9% of people protesting peacefully for equality? I do hope not.

The irony of protecting Churchill's statue from violent protestors by

  1. Nazi salutes to Churchill (seriously obviously having statues in public has done nothing to educate the public on history if they cannot figure out how inappropriate that is).
  2. Protestors violently and purposely starting a fight with police.

I have also since found out that every major protest in London has resulted in defacing Churchill's statue but only BLM has been called out

Wonder why

Funny how there's not as much vitriol about the thugs out today.

SusieOwl4 are you serious?

A right to protest peacefully and freely is fundamental to any democratic society.

The large BLM demonstration planned for today was brought forward to yesterday to avoid clashes with racist counter-protesters.

There were lots of small, peaceful protests around the country.

The racist right there today, ostensibly to 'defend statues' ended up attacking the police and each other, and someone urinated next to the memorial in Parliament Square to PC Keith Palmer.

Besides, being furloughed wasn't a reward or a choice (in the most case, some could request it for childcare reasons). It's not a treat that should be taken away.

The pictures and scenes from today are sickening, and the silence on this thread is deafening.

The silence on this thread and MN is deafening.

I doubt there is any outrage at all about it.

I wonder why?

I was impressed this thread had got so many posts already. Then realised it was about last week's BLM protests, not today's fucking disgusting band of Nazis and thick-as-pig-shit white men fuelled by hate.

So yes, these 'protests' today are disgusting.

BristolProud · 13/06/2020 20:39

Oh sandy "no, not these protests, those protests". It would be comical were it not for all the violence and repugnant behaviour seen today.

TurquoiseDress · 13/06/2020 20:45

I do agree that the behaviour of a small minority today was totally unacceptable & should be severely punished.

The vast majority of protesters were peaceful.

Yes, some of the behaviour today was disgusting.

However, I find people who are racists and racism itself, totally disgusting.

On balance, YABU

Because this thread is about the overwhelmingly peaceful BLM protest last weekend @Smilethoyourheartisbreaking. A lot of people who may wish to comment on today will read the first post and probably assume it's not the place to post about whatever it was today (I mean it wasn't a protest, was it?).

From the brief snippets of the news I've seen tonight, it looks like the far right/English defence league got themselves out & about causing maximum amount of trouble.

These are the ones who I'd class as racists, and whose behaviours & principles are utterly disgusting.

Smile and sandy, I think you've a misunderstanding here in support of the same thing if you are both disgusted by today's violence.

Report
Sandybval · 13/06/2020 22:09

Oh I am a million per cent, all I was saying is that the reason this thread doesn't have much outrage on it is probably as many people who aren't following the thread already won't know the conversation has moved on if they just read the first post.

From what I've e seen today I feel ashamed and sickened. I do not support any violence or any large social gathering during a pandemic. However, after this week I've taken a media break because I just feel they are fueling and manipulating us at the moment and my mental health can't take anymore. I just want to see my friends and family and for my kids to go to school and for everyone to get along. I saw so much kindness during the lockdown and coming together and now we are broken and divided and I feel sad for the future.
