What is your biggest lifestyle indulgence?

Mulling this over as I look through job listings. I think for me it is enjoying fitness classes at different expensive studios, well pre covid it was. Not sure when we will be able to do that again! But I really enjoy it so much and it is definitely not an essential, I'm fortunate to be able to do so. We do live in an eye-wateringly expensive area so I guess that is partly a luxury, although we do need to live in this city for my partner's work.

What would you say is the most luxury aspect of your lifestyle?

Being able to do a job of my choice, because I want to, not because I need the money, so I actually get paid for enjoying myself.😊

Imonaplane · 06/06/2020 22:08

Business class flights a few times a year and nice cars. Oh and dogs - we spend a fortune on our pack of dogs.

Witchend · 06/06/2020 22:09

Cola. Proper cola. Grin

And lots of fabric to sew with.

oohyoudevilyou · 06/06/2020 22:09

Central heating. I'm one of those people who will turn up the thermostat rather that put on a jumper. I like a thin duvet, sleep naked and open windows for fresh air. My parents are appalled.

Pets!

MingeofDeath · 06/06/2020 22:10

My motorbike.

My dog is my luxury. I'm disabled so pay( happily) my lovely dog walker to take him for a run and play every day
He's worth every single penny for the love and companionship he gives me

I'm more than likely a good bit older than you lot! Took early retirement early fifties, happy package, out the door and saw all that money and thought WTF is this?

I travelled forever for the first two years, bought lovely food and wine etc. Didn't need work clothes anymore so I only need a couple of outfits for (sorry) funerals, and weddings now.

Spending was done when younger and couldn't afford it much, now that I can, I can't be bothered!

But am getting the house redone as soon as things get back to normal. Not looking forward to the disruption but hey ho.

Oh and I gave substantial gifts to my nieces and nephews a few months after jumping out the work door, and three weeks later won 5k on the Lottery OMG it's true, I couldn't believe it. That went to my favourite charity.

I'm no skinflint, but if I want something it will be of good quality now. Nearly 40 years of work, nighttime University, this course, that course got me here. Knackered now!

Lovely thread. Thanks OP

I have a personal trainer but that's for my health - I know I wouldn't do it of I wasn't paying her to make me do it!
Beauty treatments - can't wait til I can have a facial and massage.
Cleaner.
I used to live in a pricey area but moved so I could have a bigger house and money to do these things.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 06/06/2020 22:11

Multiple horses and dogs. I don't consider them an indulgence, more a way of life.

UnderTheBus · 06/06/2020 22:14

I buy my children expensive clothes. They're only little so they couldnt care less but I enjoy choosing their clothes, I love when people compliment their clothes and I think they look beautiful. If I was given money to spend on whatever I like, I would buy them clothes. Blush

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 06/06/2020 22:14

Second hand books. I mean, a LOT of second hand books.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/06/2020 22:15

Quality furniture's great ILove, but it's a 'once' purchase isn't it? I've just ordered a new dining table, I can pretty much guarantee it will be the last dining table I ever buy. I guess I am slowly upgrading furniture now the children are past the destructive age, I am now finding myself buying more 'mature' and considered pieces now I know I'm not going to have crazed marauders buzzing about.

Feckmesideways · 06/06/2020 22:18

My new MacBook Pro that I use to design, the software is expensive too. Also I’ve recently started investing in higher end skincare products.

AConvivialHost · 06/06/2020 22:18

I'm fairly low maintenance in the beauty/fashion stakes, but I happily spend on things that I use all the time. So, I have a nice car as I have a two hour commute, I have a nice phone, purse, work bag, and I have expensive glasses as I wear them all the time. I also spend a LOT on books.

PurBal · 06/06/2020 22:20

Hand soap. An unnecessary luxury.

soupmaker · 06/06/2020 22:20

Working part-time. Best decision I ever made. No money, but better work life balance and we have the essentials.

Hassled · 06/06/2020 22:23

Face slap. I'm a sucker for any and all recommendations for magic serums that will make me travel through time and look 25 again, or a moisturiser that will make wrinkles vanish, or the perfect foundation. I'm stupidly gullible and spendy when it comes to that sort of thing. None of it makes a difference - I look my age (50s) and should really just embrace that.

my house. I should downsize now that the dc are adults, make them pack up their stuff, instead I'm a woos and they still have their rooms, and come back every few years and stay until something better turns up! I've got one at home ATM, who was overseas (on and off) for 4 yrs, another due back next month after 2yrs working overseas and another who is overseas for 3yrs but still has all her stuff in her room.

I love the big house and the space and the garden. I love my garden, but I know I should really move into a nice little 2 bed bungalow with small bills.

somm · 06/06/2020 22:25

@nonevernotever

It was my horse. Now that he's gone (died just before lockdown) it's probably clothes and books.
Sorry to hear about your horse. That's a big loss.
toastfiend · 06/06/2020 22:26

Horse and clothes.

KingscoteStaff · 06/06/2020 22:27

Sending sheets to the laundry.
Ahhhhh ironed sheets......

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/06/2020 22:28

WHY should you move into a bloody bungaloid Dingle? If you enjoy your house, it brings you joy and you can afford it, stay!

Chochito · 06/06/2020 22:30

Travelling.

I love having my hair done or going to a spa or having a massage. If I had the time to book and go to more appointments, I definitely would.
