Mulling this over as I look through job listings. I think for me it is enjoying fitness classes at different expensive studios, well pre covid it was. Not sure when we will be able to do that again! But I really enjoy it so much and it is definitely not an essential, I'm fortunate to be able to do so. We do live in an eye-wateringly expensive area so I guess that is partly a luxury, although we do need to live in this city for my partner's work.

What would you say is the most luxury aspect of your lifestyle?

Working not quite full-time...I work 31 hours (only because that's the least my boss will let me work, my ideal is 25!)

I could and 'should' work full time but I can afford not to so, I feel it is quite indulgent.

Can't afford anything else that's indulgent cos I only work part time ya know Wink

Usually holidays - we tend to do a summer and winter family holiday plus maybe two city breaks per year without DC. That is all currently on stop but we’re hopeful for next year.

Itsjustmee · 06/06/2020 22:58

Holidays. 2-3 long haul holidays 2-3 weeks each
I had managed to get a holiday for 3 weeks in Feb before all this started
I had one booked for 2 weeks time to for 2 weeks long haul but that’s not happening
Would have done 2 - 3 weekends away and had another holiday around Sept -Oct
Beauty treatments. Nails lip fillers Botox
My dogs.

Now atm it’s just my dogs

BitOfFun · 06/06/2020 23:02

Books for my kindle, I'd say. I buy them most days.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/06/2020 23:03

@ScarfLadysBag Nice!, I'm intrigued by the PJ one? Tell me more.

We have a coffee one, a cheese one, a beer one, and I have stationery and beauty ones.

I LOVE a surprise box.

Patriciathestripper1 · 06/06/2020 23:04

I would say my horses (mine, my daughters two, snd my husbsnds). They have kept us sane during the lockdown

Imnotcalledlola · 06/06/2020 23:04

I’m not particularly extravagant with anything. I guess if anything it’s working part time when I could work full time (assuming I could get wrap around childcare!).
My 2 days off give me time to sort the house, shop and exercise-thing ls which would otherwise take up time in evenings or weekends.
So I guess I buy myself time.
Aside from that I use the tumble drier for most loads Blush

Shadeslayer · 06/06/2020 23:04

Buying my children things they truly want

I don't buy them because they want in general but if they really want something and constantly ask for it over weeks or months I will buy it and I love to see them get that surprise it's better than buying for me.

NewAndImprovedNorks · 06/06/2020 23:07

Art books...oh I am a sucker for an art book.
A MASSIVE Louise Bougeois book arrived yesterday and I am eeeking it out so I don’t look at it all at once.

Travel....for the galleries. Oh I miss that so much. Just before all this bollocks, DS2 and I spent nearly nine hours in the Prado and it was BLISS

Art supplies. Jackson’s regularly suck ££££££ out of my purse

Treats for friends, children, parents at the moment is the biggest luxury. I am having fun sending flowers, hampers, chocolate to random people

EmmaC78 · 06/06/2020 23:08

My 2 horses. Cost a bloody fortune but keep me sane.

I am also surprised at the number of horse owners on this thread Smile

ScarfLadysBag · 06/06/2020 23:08

@ILikeyourHairyHands I've only had one delivery so far but basically it's a pair of new PJs and some beauty/pamper stuff, like moisturising gloves, bath salts, etc. I am a PJ fiend but quite set in my ways so I was hoping to maybe have my pyjama horizons broadened and get some slightly more stylish replacements for my tattered grey holey ones! Last month was giraffe-themed!

ScarfLadysBag · 06/06/2020 23:09

A cheese box sounds AMAZING

SecretSpAD · 06/06/2020 23:12

Teenagers 😂❤️

Oh and st Eval candles. I convince myself that I'm helping a local business.....

Linguaphile · 06/06/2020 23:13

We have three children, which I think some consider a luxury. They certainly cost enough! However I think our main “pure luxury“ spending is on frequent international travel.

BrownOwlknowsbest · 06/06/2020 23:14

My sponsored children!! To know that over the years I have helped 8 young people in the developing world to have an education and the chance to get out of poverty and make a decent life for themselves is more than worth the money they have cost over the years

Blackbutler86 · 06/06/2020 23:20

My hair extensions, I’ve had to remove them myself after having them regularly for 11 years because of the current situation. I worked out how much I’d spent on them (disgustingly it was the amount of a small house deposit). However it has made me wonder if I do really need them after all this. Other than that it would be my 5 dogs but they are worth every single penny of course.

Sceptre86 · 06/06/2020 23:20

For myself regular facials, massages and jewellery. For the kids trips out e.g. theme parks, zoo, theatre etc. We would normally do several weekend breaks a year to different parts of the UK.

BillyAndTheSillies · 06/06/2020 23:25

Holidays and a PT for me. DH's is his bloody supercar. It brings him joy, but only has two seats which is bloody ridiculous since we have two kids.

EmeraldShamrock · 06/06/2020 23:27

@BrownOwlknowsbest That's great. What charity would you recommend to do it through. Is it very expensive I'm not well off I'd love to do this if it was affordable.

FredAstaireAteMyHamSandwich · 06/06/2020 23:27

First class airline travel, and my garden.

IloveParmaViolets · 06/06/2020 23:28

Language classes
Food atm, getting deliveries from local independent shops
Glasses as I wear them f/t
£££ on footwear and coats from outdoor clothing shops. Don't need to now as I'll be wfh permanently.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/06/2020 23:32

@ScarfLadysBag the cheese one is, it's Pong Cheese, £23 a month and you get five great cheeses, generally a blue, a goats, a soft, a hard and a wildcard. Never had a dud.

LesLavandes · 06/06/2020 23:36

Travelling lots

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 06/06/2020 23:38

In recent years it's been nicer clothes and a few beauty treatments.
I used to only buy in sales and never have beauty treatments, probably because there wasn't a lot of spare money growing up so I never thought I'd be able to afford them.

Then I suddenly realised that DH and I could afford some luxuries so I decided to enjoy them! Grin

mathanxiety · 06/06/2020 23:44

@nonevernotever, so sorry Flowers

For me it's second hand books, and second hand handbags which I recondition. And I like candles too (new).
