Mulling this over as I look through job listings. I think for me it is enjoying fitness classes at different expensive studios, well pre covid it was. Not sure when we will be able to do that again! But I really enjoy it so much and it is definitely not an essential, I'm fortunate to be able to do so. We do live in an eye-wateringly expensive area so I guess that is partly a luxury, although we do need to live in this city for my partner's work.

What would you say is the most luxury aspect of your lifestyle?

It was travel. Nothing flashy (short haul flights and driving through Europe), but we travelled frequently. I’m reassessing this now, after seeing how the environment has benefited from lockdown. We will definitely limit flights from now on.

Expensive gym membership and a PT- worth every penny to help me maintain my weight and am currently in the best shape of my life.
Beauty treatments- lashes, nails and hair.
Up until this year I hardly spent anything on myself but my ds is 18 and we have a much higher income than we used to so I am treating myself. Obviously all on hold at the min!

£170 a week food and wine budget. we eat amazing local or seasonal produce and pay more for better farmed things.

yes, its a shit tonne but we don't do gym, manicures, botox, kitchen on credit cards, cars on finance or company cars etc (not knocking those things at all!!!!).

TigerDroveAgain · 06/06/2020 21:55

Holidays
Flower deliveries
Going to the pub and drinking £££ gin

merryhouse · 06/06/2020 21:57

Giving up work to look after my babies.

That's done now, so....

well, probably the gym (about £100? a month for three of us).

Free-range eggs and poultry.

Whenever these threads come up I’m always so surprised how many people have horses

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/06/2020 21:57

You are knocking them a bit though OnWheels, or why say it?

No need to justify your food-spend if that's how you choose to spend your cash.

My car and my cleaner.

My car makes me smile when I see it and my cleaner keeps me sane as I work all hours.

Travel and London theatre. I often combined them, as I live outside the UK. I miss it and it just hit me the other day that it is not likely to happen again anytime soon.

sergeilavrov · 06/06/2020 21:58

We spend a lot on travel, as our joint luxury. Business class flights, ethical safari, desert villas, yachting etc. Worth it. We have stressful jobs and I think my mental health wouldn’t be what it is without them. Some of these trips are subsidised.

My personal indulgence is probably skincare, perfume and bath stuff. We have separate bathrooms and if I wasn’t organised, DH would have questions about the quantity of face cream and bath foam I have.

For DH, it’s suits and gaming. For the kids, it’s books. I travel for work and bring back books written by the local community. Their playroom has a library wall that is stuffed, but they love them.

SevenOfNineTails · 06/06/2020 21:59

Makeup and tea , I’ve just ordered some tea pigs teabags and to me they are really expensive but my one indulgence ☕️
Makeup palettes , I’ll lust after one for a while and save up to order it and it makes me so happy 😊

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/06/2020 22:00

Travel. I spend about 25% of my income on it.

On a smaller scale, getting my nails done every month.

Tappering · 06/06/2020 22:01

Nice food and my two dogs.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/06/2020 22:02

I think horses always come up Can because horses are notorious money pits, and people on otherwise modest incomes prioritise them because they really bloody love horses. And if you have a DC whose hobby is horses and they really get into it, the only real way forward is to get a horse for them once they want to invest a lot of time to riding and being with horses!

Tartyflette · 06/06/2020 22:03

Business class flights for holidays. (Used to anyway) Flying is going to be very different 'afterwards'.....

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/06/2020 22:03

Children. Books. Cheese.

GallopingGreen · 06/06/2020 22:03

As I have aged, a really good quality hairdresser. Not been since February and dying for her to open in July

tangochutney · 06/06/2020 22:03

Coffees and take aways

Yambabe · 06/06/2020 22:04

My camper van. She's old and tatty and has no power steering but gets me to festivals and out-of-the-way places all year round.

BritWifeinUSA · 06/06/2020 22:04

We only fly business class. I’d rather compromise on the hotel than the flights, if a compromise had to be made. I just hate being uncomfortable on a plane.

ScarfLadysBag · 06/06/2020 22:05

Oh I forgot subscription boxes. We have four or five for various things (mostly for DD but I have a pyjama one!)

SerenDippitty · 06/06/2020 22:06

My hair stylist.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/06/2020 22:07

I like a subscription box Scarf, what do you have?

Ilovemybigallotment · 06/06/2020 22:08

Used to be a competition horse but woke up one dyad saw the light. Now its high end high quality home furnishings, and extensive travel and usually staying in top hotels. Still cheaper by miles than a competition horse. To quote:
Friend: "what's that hanging out of his mouth?"
Husband; "probably a £50 note".
Or Husband "he's better shod that we are; I don't spend £90 every 4 weeks on shoes, better dressed than we are I'm not wandering around my garden in a £300 coat (covered in mud) and I don't have 8 of them, no one spends as much time and effort over my nutrition and I don't have private medical insurance".
