Mulling this over as I look through job listings. I think for me it is enjoying fitness classes at different expensive studios, well pre covid it was. Not sure when we will be able to do that again! But I really enjoy it so much and it is definitely not an essential, I'm fortunate to be able to do so. We do live in an eye-wateringly expensive area so I guess that is partly a luxury, although we do need to live in this city for my partner's work.

What would you say is the most luxury aspect of your lifestyle?

Botox and treatments..

Now life is so different it’s probably nice skin care stuff, lounge wear and delicious things to eat when I do my shop, usually cheeses or seafood.

I’ve worked frontline since lockdown started initially so I get a lot of comfort from home comforts. Nice bedding, candles, throws ..

Wouldn’t mind a Botox filler top up but aside from that I quite enjoy my nest

Stovetopespresso · 17/03/2021 19:14

Nice coffee, flowers, a yoga class, pet insurance, reasonable wine, 4 kids, organic veg delivery.

God i sound a right pita/cliché

Marjar08 · 17/03/2021 19:14

@Shannith

Horse.
Yep, mine tooGrin
FreeButtonBee · 17/03/2021 19:14

Other than wine and a regular Ocado delivery, it’s my nanny for my 3 kids. Worth every penny but probably I spend more than strictly necessary. I have a 40 year old bathroom and shitty windows in my house. But I can go to work knowing they couldn’t be better cared for.

KisstheTeapot14 · 17/03/2021 19:15

Oh I do like the idea of pyjama subscription!

Lush items a few times a year. DS likes bath bombs as his luxury, as well as comics.

I would say books but can't feasibly fit any more into our house.

I guess little luxuries amongst the food shop - Guinness, jam doughnuts etc.

Not having access to shops bothers me very little, though I did have a dream last night about being in a giant Primark and just revelling in the novelty of trying on new hats of every shape and size. A kind lady there gave me make up advice. I woke up feeling really happy.

The sheer abundance of stuff in the shop made me feel it was the height of luxury. I'm easily pleased me - bring on the dream hats!

During lockdown, really nice house shoes slippers and a Toast dressing gown.

Mummadeze · 17/03/2021 19:21

Cleaner, gym, tennis lessons, various tv subscriptions. I also collect Barbie dolls and go through phases when I keep buying them which is quite extravagant and unnecessary. I also buy loads of nut bars which cost £1.30 each which adds up when I keep eating them all the time!

LeopardPrintKnickers · 17/03/2021 19:24

We have a real mixed bag, including

Subscriptions for flowers, whisky and coffee
A Peloton - game changer for mental health
Our cars
UK travel when allowed
Nails every three weeks
Hair every 6-8 weeks
Skincare and make up
Kids activities and clothes

We've relinquished a lot of costs during Covid as we've had to reduce our earnings to protect our business, and child care and the cleaner have gone, and I don't miss them at all. I'm happier working around the kids even though it can be a pressure cooker at times.

britinnyc · 17/03/2021 19:24

It was a membership to a very pricy hot yoga studio. Not sure I can ever go back to al those sweaty people in a small room

Sayamino · 17/03/2021 19:25

Flowers, plants & hanging baskets for the garden. Every spring I spend a fortune making the garden look pretty. It’s my feel-good hobby.

KisstheTeapot14 · 17/03/2021 19:26

@Toomuchtooyoung01 Don't worry that's you and me both chick.

I feel like it's a real treat to go for take out coffee.

Sometimes simple pleasures are taken for granted.

Not saying I don't admire things like make up or posh bedding but I would feel like I can't justify them. I suppose I've always been fairly frugal. Its a habit I think. Working pt as well, means we tend to want to stay in the black.

On my list of ideals are new carpets and decorating for our flat. Both badly needed.

I think I will really enjoy that if it happens.

Mary46 · 17/03/2021 19:38

Ragdale sounds fab scarby. I love nice bed linen. At moment I spend on coffees and takeaway at wend. I could have coffee here but its no break! Usually get one while on dog walk. Few cheapy clothes online asda etc

pinkhousesarebest · 17/03/2021 19:42

My old French farmhouse that inhales every penny we have but makes us so happy.
Pets.
DC's going to a uni abroad instead of one in our country.

SaltyAF · 17/03/2021 19:47

Yep, I feel completely inadequate too.

sugarlost · 17/03/2021 19:47

Eating out, going for drinks, take out hot drink whenever I want before lockdown. I'm grateful I am financially independent.

EmmaC78 · 17/03/2021 19:47

Horses for me as well. And somehow I ended up with two. Apart from that I don't really have any other luxuries. The odd takeaway but that's about it.

Toothpaste123 · 17/03/2021 19:47

A built-in sauna 😁 I love it, it's a real luxury

Turth · 17/03/2021 19:48

Waitrose food and endless books for my children

Changeythenamey · 17/03/2021 20:05

Expensive holidays, eating out and Botox. I’ve never been interested in ‘things’ or anything tangible or designer. In the 12 months I haven’t been able to do my favourite things I’ve saved nearly £50k. I think it will probably change my habits going forward.

Eileen101 · 17/03/2021 20:06

Ooh this thread has made me feel positively frugal Grin

Whilst I was working between DC1 and DC2 I had a cleaner every two weeks, which was totally worth it. I'm on mat leave now and going to be WFH on my return so won't continue, but I felt it was an indulgence.

My children are probably my biggest indulgence. I don't spend much on myself, but I love frugi clothes for them - they're so colourful and bright. To balance it out, I do source as much as possible from eBay.
Also toys and books - just gave my son his first set of grapat for his birthday, and I buy a lot of books for them as they get so much use in our house.

Having been on a tight budget before, I feel indulgent making mortgage overpayments and buying premium bonds for the children to help their future.

Other than those, we have a chippy tea once a month which I enjoy as an indulgence 😁 and I always buy good quality walking shoes - a definite must.

nickymanchester · 17/03/2021 20:09

I'm amazed at how many people say horses - but there again upkeep can be really expensive.

For me, it's yacht racing.

DH and I actually met while we were taking part in Antigua Race Week about 30 years ago.

We raced together for quite a while. Then the DC came along and we gave up competitive racing for a very long time.

We'd really given up on any sort of serious cruising plans but the lockdown over the last year has really changed our ideas.

Now we're in the process of buying a catamaran (a rather fast one that can compete in races) and the plan is to leave the UK for the next few years and go racing in various parts of the world.

DH has just got to the age where he can take early retirement and I'm in a position where I can work remotely as a contractor so we will still have money coming in.

33goingon64 · 17/03/2021 20:10

Probably having a cleaner, even though I work part time from home. DH and I decided together it was a luxury we were prepared to pay for. He says he doesn't expect me to do it (modern guy Hmm) and he definitely won't do it (maybe not so modern Wink) so we're both happy. I feel slightly guilty about it. But not too much.

KaleJuicer · 17/03/2021 20:15

I was going to say daily housekeeper but that allows me to work longer hours - it’s not like I’m watching Netflix. So in that case my indulgence is expensive hand soap for the endless hand washing.

tommyhoundmum · 17/03/2021 20:18
