Mulling this over as I look through job listings. I think for me it is enjoying fitness classes at different expensive studios, well pre covid it was. Not sure when we will be able to do that again! But I really enjoy it so much and it is definitely not an essential, I'm fortunate to be able to do so. We do live in an eye-wateringly expensive area so I guess that is partly a luxury, although we do need to live in this city for my partner's work.

What would you say is the most luxury aspect of your lifestyle?

@Number16

Wine (only £5 bottles from the supermarket but we get two a week so it's a lot over a month), good quality outdoor gear for the DC, take away once a month, expensive facial sunscreen for my oily skin
This is true re wine. DH and I were adding up the cost of his wine subscription, and my prosecco habit and it comes to circa £3 k a year. If we got a 3k post tax salary rise we would be thrilled! So we have decided to cancel them and cancel all wine purchasing and to re-direct those funds to our family holiday savings account.
peaceanddove · 17/03/2021 12:55

When hospitality re-opens, DH and I will go back to eating out at least twice a week at one of our local gastro pubs, and our teens still often join us which doubles the cost! We've really missed our long, lazy lunches.

oohyoudevilyou · 17/03/2021 12:57

Cakes and daily bread from our (artisan and expensive) local bakery. My friends are incredulous that I spend £2.50 on a loaf, and 35p each on baps, but we love them and the baker is a fantastic chap who kept us all supplied with all sorts of basics and treats during lockdown.

oohyoudevilyou · 17/03/2021 13:00

And I smoke ...nuff said Blush

AdoraBell · 17/03/2021 13:01

I’ve been putting my coffee habit money aside, it’s not 3 grand though 🤣

SeptemberGurl · 17/03/2021 14:29

It used to be travel for me, but not so these days obviously. These days I'm inclined to spend some extra money at smaller/local shops to support them.

We also have Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+ and Sky but I don't really need them all, so I should tidy that up for sure and save a few pounds a month.

Moanranger · 17/03/2021 14:41

When I saw this thread, I thought “Oo I’ll post on that one, I wonder how many others will share mine?” Second one in did:
Horse
Surprising how many horse owners there are! I always say - it’s cheaper than psychotherapy, but I am actually not sure it is. Love him, tho

What is your biggest lifestyle indulgence?
2020Won · 17/03/2021 17:27

Horses here too. Big ones. But I have a rule that I don’t add up the cost.
The thing that is making me cringe at the moment is the daily cost of running the hot tub. I’m pretty sure it’s not worth it but I have been overruled for now!

Yogalola · 17/03/2021 17:30

Currently just enjoying my local countryside walks, total luxury and costs nothing. Prior to lockdown touring holidays especially safaris

SmoggieC · 17/03/2021 17:31

Lip and tear trough fillers

Lavanderrose · 17/03/2021 17:34

Interior shopping

devilish · 17/03/2021 17:35

Botox and nice holidays Disney world & Caribbean mainly. can’t wait to start enjoying it all again

Ddot · 17/03/2021 17:36

Cat, car, good chocolate.

OhMyMirror · 17/03/2021 17:37

Expensive trainers. I'll mull over a £7 pair of primark leggings but won't think twice on dropping £200 on nice trainers.
Also skincare and makeup.

mrbreezeet1 · 17/03/2021 17:40

Not mine,
But I know some people that most of their money goes to beer, vodka, and whiskey and wine, and weed.
Then they don't have money for other bills.
X girlfriend for that matter.
Was trying for us to save money for a nicer rental,
But was told "she was not in a position to save money ATM"
(YEAH, because all your extra money was being squanderd on alcohol and weed!)
Partly why we are not together.
Plus, me not relishing the idea of intimacy with a sloppy drunk.
(But I would hear about that all the time too. )
Anyways, that's OT.

Lavanderrose · 17/03/2021 17:41

Also interiors include things like candles, cushions, f&b paint, serveware, etr lol

Camdengal · 17/03/2021 17:41

I send sheets and towels out to a commercial laundry - they come back beautifully laundered and pressed, smelling great. Would be hard pressed to give it up.

MadHattersTeaPartee · 17/03/2021 17:45

I’ve just ordered a Tesla. I know there are cheaper EVs I could have but I really wanted one.

Twattergy · 17/03/2021 17:51

Only do these occasionally but:

Lash extensions
Personal trainer
Decent Furniture/homeware

I look at real luxe items such as carrier watch, designer bags as I could afford them here and there. But I just can't do it. I can't see how a bag is really worth £800+ just seems immoral. If I can spunk that on something as unecessary as a bag I really should be giving £700 to charity and get myself a perfectly decent £100 bag?

kimf1963 · 17/03/2021 17:51

I do my weekly shop at M & S but only me and daughter at home now.
Expensive Rhubarb Gin
£25 on month on home magazine subscriptions,
Think nothing of spending £200 on stuff I don’t need at Burford Garden Centre at least once a month.
I’m not well off work in NHS.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 17/03/2021 17:57

I feel like a right loser reading through these and admitting my "indulgence" is getting a takeaway coffee from the Costa machine at the garage, and OH regulalry chastises me for this saying we cant afford to chuck money away like that!

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 17/03/2021 17:59

Pre being a SAHM it was getting my nails/pedicure/eyebrows/hair done, and bloody lovely bottomless brunches woth my friends.

BeagleEagle · 17/03/2021 18:03

Clothes, fabric, yarn, I spend more than people on my income level spend. I don't drink or smoke though so it balances out.

Dowser · 17/03/2021 18:11

Holidays
By this time last year I’d had 4.
It’s a year today that tenerife was in lockdown and a year tomorrow we were evacuated home

Dowser · 17/03/2021 18:15

@countingto10

Horse here too 😁 DH has shares in 4/5 racehorses so even more expensive. We’ll be living in a tent in our old age😂. It’s that old joke - How do you become a millionaire? Start off as a billionaire and buy a horse! 🤔
Gosh, what do these horses eat that makes them so expensive I mean it’s got to be the food..hasn’t it?
