I’d change the kitchen cupboards and potentially install different doors out to garden... I really like it, DH thinks garden too small (family of 4).

The garden is probably on a par with most new builds, but that kitchen is a real shocker Grin

Newbie1999 · 06/06/2020 18:01

@viques That’s my evening sorted!!

The circular kitchen (with a blind spot) would do my head in. Too much walking round and round. If I had to live there, I’d be removing the tv from the ‘kitchen’ and keeping that whole section as a dining room.

I think it is a soulless house with no interesting features and I hate the bedroom wardrobes.

Ironically, the only thing I like is the garden - mainly because it’s got huge potential to be dug up and made into something lovely!

raspberryk · 06/06/2020 18:02

FFS no one can read or interpret photos or floor plans. The OP is a family of 4 not 6, only 2 kids.
The house is not completely open plan downstairs either. facepalm

howlatthetrees · 06/06/2020 18:03

I don’t think the gardens too small for a family of 4!

SockYarn · 06/06/2020 18:03

The mirrored wall with small children - just imagine the constant cleaning of grubby fingermarks. And it screams "this house is tiny so let's whack in a massive fuck-off mirror to make it look bigger".

altiara · 06/06/2020 18:03

I think the garden is probably a decent size, just need to take up some of the patio which seems huge.

Centaurpede · 06/06/2020 18:04

I think it looks lovely. I don't think the garden is too small but not very child friendly. With a bit of work and putting some lawn in there and flowers it would be really nice!

Elsiebear90 · 06/06/2020 18:04

@raspberryk what point is she trying to make? Surely when we’re talking budgets of half a million it no longer becomes about if it’s “good enough” for a family, it’s if it’s worth the money or if you could get better for the same price. I haven’t seen any snobbery on here at all, understandably people have higher expectations with higher budgets.

clarehhh · 06/06/2020 18:05

Easy enough to take up paving

Ikeameatballs · 06/06/2020 18:08

Which direction does the garden face? Something about it suggests north facing to me which would massively put me off.

It’s an ok house and is definitely big enough for a family of 4. I think it would look a lot better downstairs without their furniture in it and with a change to the kitchen doors.

Sexnotgender · 06/06/2020 18:08

I don’t hate the kitchen but I’d be cautious with the lack of photos of the rest of upstairs. The 2 bedrooms pictured are REALLY dated and the 4th bedroom is tiny.

Lonelycrab · 06/06/2020 18:08

Wouldn’t live in Crawley myself. Grew up about 8 miles outside and although my memories are from way back I’ve not heard good things since. Pound hill is def the nicer/est part but as pp have mentioned the airport plays a big part in the local economy. I’d sooner be looking in Redhill and I don’t particularly like there much.

It’s a lot of house for the money, but the gardens are paved and patio’d to within an inch of their lives. Changing that would be a huge pain in the arse.

oohnicevase · 06/06/2020 18:10

Pound hill is one of the better parts of Crawley but it does have quite a high crime rate although maybe not compared to London . I like Crawley , there is loads to do .

monkeyonthetable · 06/06/2020 18:10

The garden is 50ft - it's just they haven't made the most of it. If you take out most of that huge patio and all the gravel to replace them with lawn and swings, then just leave some patio outside the doors to the garden, for a table, chairs, sand pit etc, it will be perfectly big enough for two kids to play in.

I don't much like the layout of the kitchen - wrapped around that central block so even though it's open plan you are often cut off from seeing what DC are up to or from chatting with guests. But it's a great size and I expected it to be a lot more expensive.

HappyDinosaur · 06/06/2020 18:11

I think it could definitely be made into a lovely family home, with a bit of a change of decor. I don't think the garden is a bad size, you could take up some of the patio for more green area if you wanted. Good parking too which is always good. Can you go and see it? Sizes etc can be difficult to really imagine without seeing in real life.

MMN123 · 06/06/2020 18:11

Take a look around Wallington area. You won’t get a four bed detached, but you will get a nice home for your budget - schools are excellent and transport links pretty good. If moving out of town it’s not a bad spot.

Newbie1999 · 06/06/2020 18:11

Those who don’t like Crawley, what other areas should I consider? I do really like Horsham, but I’ve found the houses a fair bit more expensive and smaller.

raspberryk · 06/06/2020 18:11

@Elsiebear90 presumably she was responding to the few (and the OP's DH) comments that some elements of the house (such as the garden, or the 4th bedroom) were small. Neither of them are actually small, they are what a lot of people would consider quite large. Even with the half a million budget - which in some areas I understand is the cost of 4 bed houses and not necessarily for a premium/luxury house.

MMN123 · 06/06/2020 18:12

Where do you need to commute to for work?

fairlyplump · 06/06/2020 18:14

I think its awful, all to open in my opinion and garden is too small.

Hollyhobbi · 06/06/2020 18:17

In the description it says the master bedroom has access to an ensuite. But I can't see it on the floor plans?

TheletterZ · 06/06/2020 18:17

I think it has been over extended for the size of upstairs and the house plans feels very unbalanced. Which is why the garden feels too small, as it was designed to be a lot bigger.

I’m not a fan of these very large extended kitchen dining rooms and I also worry that as they are very fashionable now they could go out of fashion again.

SummerDayWinterEvenings · 06/06/2020 18:17

I tihnk the realities are it will be smaller than it looks -looks of mirror techniques in the photos. Family of 4 - I would say too small -but we live on a huge plot

ShinyMe · 06/06/2020 18:19

I agree with posts upthread that said it looks cold and unfriendly. It's not warm and inviting and cosy. But people's tastes are different, and you could make it more inviting, if that's what you want. I hate the lack of garden. But size wise it's absolutely fine for a family of 4,
