I’d change the kitchen cupboards and potentially install different doors out to garden... I really like it, DH thinks garden too small (family of 4).

I don't think the garden is too bad a size looking at the satellite view, but would want to reduce the size of the patio and put some lawn down
I moved to Pound Hill/Worth area about 5 years ago and commute into London normally and obviously have heard all the negativity around Crawley but I have been really pleasantly surprised living here, moved out from South East London due to house prices.
Anywhere east of the train tracks in Crawley is actually nice, and quite leafy with the possible exception of Spring Platt estate. You aren't affected by the airplane noise as the flight path is east to west and Crawley is south of Gatwick and it's so handy having Gatwick on your doorstep. Commute to London Bridge is half hour, compared to about an hour for Horsham which is on the slow stopping train.
Loads for young kids to do round here; massive cinema and bowling complex with restaurants, Tilgate Park which is really nice. You are in the countryside 5 minutes drive any direction, there are a lot of country walks nearby, worth way down to East Grinstead is very good. Plus you are 25 minute drive down to Brighton, M23 junction round the corner. Or easy to get anywhere on the south coast.
The town centre is nothing special other than the size is pretty good and has all the shops you could pretty much need. If you want a more aesthetically pleasing town centre, drive into Horsham.
Your nearest secondary school is Hazelwood which seems OK/good. The estate that house is on is nice and in that particular street you do not hear the traffic. In fact it's a really nice estate.
Other parts of Crawley don't seem to be great, but to be honest I don't have a need to go there so I don't speak from experience.
I know that house has been on the market for a while and dropped it's price a couple of times so you may be able to get more off with an offer.

I hope people are commenting based on what you should be able to get for the money. Some of the comments are frankly ridiculous. I’d prefer a lovely period home with an acre and a gravel driveway but it’s not what we can afford in the area we live.
I think it looks like a nice spacious family home. The garden is a reasonable size for a modern home. Personally with a young family, I like an open space family area with the benefit of another area you can close off and keep as a nice adult space.
Yes it needs a bit work and if you are happy to do that and it’s reflective in the price fine.
You might be able to get away with changing the doors in the kitchen.
The pillars where walls have been knocked down might be a bit odd. Probably need to see in the flesh if it bothers you

Hoggleludo · 08/06/2020 18:04

My mum grew up I. Crawley. I grew up in Arundel. Horsham

Horsham is nice. But the prices reflect that. Pease pottage is also nice

I've suggested some already

Horsham. South water. Broadbridge Heath at a real push. Pease pottage. You want the places outside of Crawley. Not within Crawley.

Crawley is built up now. There is no forest area at all. I know that area very well

My mum went to hazel wick!

Hoggleludo · 08/06/2020 18:07

Someone posted a house from Billingshurst. Which is a nicer area.

Hoggleludo · 08/06/2020 18:08

@oohnicevase broadbridge Heath when I lived in Horsham. Was this vast wasteland. It now has houses chockablock next to each other. Like inches inbetween. It's not nice. I don't think

oohnicevase · 08/06/2020 18:35

The OP wants a big house for £475 k .. she isn't going to get that in Horsham bbh or Sw unless it's needs loads of work. Really I don't know where all you live that you turn up your noses at Crawley 🙄.. I work there and it's great , loads of facilities especially compared to bloody Horsham !!!!

Fizzysours · 08/06/2020 18:52

@Newbie1999 we didnot find Crawley that great for kids tbh...we moved when they were 7 and 8 and our kids became far happier. They are outdoor kids...Crawley is not an outdoor kids place at ALL. Also... Crawley is going to be slaughtered by Covid :(

Nosuchluck · 08/06/2020 19:00

Really? I've spent the last week walking near the play areas and sports facilities at Maidenbower, along the beautiful Worth Way and enjoying Tilgate.

Fizzysours · 08/06/2020 19:13

Haha do not get me started about Maidenbower!!!!!! No offence meant to anyone...but my kids really did not enjoy life in Crawley. But all kids are different. Mine need to be outdoors. Tilgate was awesome for them until aged 4-ish though

Wavey123 · 08/06/2020 19:55

I’d scroll right past that on Rightmove.

Bettybunny23 · 08/06/2020 20:00

Have you thought of going North of london, rather than South.....I live in Bedfordshire, trains are 30-45mins into KingsCross, house prices are cheap, lovely countryside.

funinthesun19 · 08/06/2020 22:46

Yeah it’s alright.
The size of that back garden wouldn’t bother me. I’d make it brighter with grass and flowers though. It has a lot of potential to look nice.
The kitchen is awful but again it can be changed and it doesn’t have to stay that colour.
The living room looks cluttered and dull with those dark brown sofas.
Bedroom is lovely.

The house a lot of potential definitely. If I was to buy it I wouldn’t keep it the way it is now, especially that ugly red kitchen.

Wauden · 08/06/2020 22:51

The gardens front and back have been paved over which I dislike a lot. That means that rain water cannot drain away so that floods increase.
Just looks horrible.

nannybeach · 09/06/2020 07:20

You cant say because here is paving its going to increase floods, presumably they have acro drains, maybe permeable paving, so that rainwater doesnt drain into the road, Ifield was build on marsh land, friends with new builds in the early 80s had damp and mould. having lived in Pound Hill, Three Bridges, never saw any flooding, we had a detached victorian house, which was actually a council house, shock horror! Theres now a block of flats there, my DD lives there, loves it, but privately renting costs an arm and leg, she wants to move nearer me, much cheaper property (near the sea)and the childcare of course.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/06/2020 23:01

I’m in scotland was expecting 40 mins from London would but you a shed

I think it’s a great looking house. Nicely extended. Kitchen is a bit bright but you can live with it. Spend a couple of grand sorting the garden.

@drknmky I’d ask for that comment to be deleted if I was you

Casschops · 15/07/2020 08:01

Its funny about people's perspective about what is to small for a family of four kids. Im in a two up two down and to me that is like a mansion! The garden is ace and lots of room inside. I think you need to view it somehow and see how you feel. I hope its what you want.Smile

IKEA888 · 15/07/2020 08:09

I find the big hallway v v strange .
the garden is fine .

KatherineParr4 · 15/07/2020 08:12

I think it’s lovely but I hate the garden. I would have to change that. Otherwise I really like it.

Krabapple · 15/07/2020 08:21

Wow! Strange comments on here. I think it’s lovely. The garden seems okay. I wouldn’t have chosen that colour for the kitchen but I like the style and layout. Nice and modern. I would need an en-suite for that money, especially as the kids get older. That’s my only negative. I don’t know the area but a house like this in a good area of my Northern city would be a similar price (maybe a bit cheaper but not much).

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 15/07/2020 08:42

As others have remarked. Kitchen nice layout, horrible "in your face" dominant red Hmm what were they thinking! also don't like range cookers, take up too much space, but that's a personal preference. It seems to have a nice flow throughout the downstairs, although houses to me always looks souless with just wide screen tvs, the ubiquitous brown leather sofas and a lack of books Sad The garden is awful if you've spare cash after purchase, assuming you go ahead with this house, do something about restoring some grass. Good size for a family of four though. I don't know Crawley, I gather it's a bit of a concrete jungle. I've been looking around Horsham nearby and Southwater a couples of miles due south.

Ultihapper · 09/09/2020 13:08

We are looking to relocate from swindon to somewhere southwest London, preferably Surrey. I have 3 year old son and Our criteria is to have outstanding primary and secondary school, could you pls provide few post codes to look at for that catchment area along with school names which is great for families. Our budget is 600K but happy to downsize a little to get in the catchment.

Some areas I heard are Epsom, Wallington, Wokingham ( which is closer to reading) .

Since I all new to all these areas, appreciate area names which come under catchment
