I’d change the kitchen cupboards and potentially install different doors out to garden... I really like it, DH thinks garden too small (family of 4).

In response to your first question I do think the garden is a bit small

Workerbeee · 07/06/2020 09:21

@Newbie1999 I would really have a look at Redhill- there is investment in the area and fast links to London - good luck!

OfTheNight · 07/06/2020 09:23

I think it’s a lovely house, it would be amazing to live in a house like that. I love the tree in the driveway, I even like the red cupboards in the kitchen! I feel like the garden could work with a bit of redesigning. I’d snap someone’s hand off to live in a lovely big house like that.

crusheddaffodils · 07/06/2020 09:32

I'm late to this but would like to share my thoughts anyway Smile
Plenty of room for 2 adults, 2 kids!
The kitchen would need to be changed for me too, but it's a nice house.
Garden could do with a revamp to be more child-friendly and appealing, but the size is fine (although you certainly could get bigger gardens for your budget if that was a priority).
If the main criteria are 40minutes from London and good primary schools (I assume), there are places I would consider before Crawley.

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 07/06/2020 09:36

I work in Crawley and live in Redhill. Personally I wouldn’t write Crawley off, it’s not great but it’s not awful and there are nice parts as others have said. The town isn’t amazing but It has everything you need, I would choose to shop there over Redhill. I do prefer Horsham or Reigate if I was moving but that’s because I’m a snob!
Redhill is ok, not as great as everyone seems to think, the town centre is dead apart from drunks loitering! However it is having a massive amount of regeneration atm so hopefully things will improve.
That house in particular, I think is lovely, perfect for a family of 4, I agree I would change the garden, but only to add some grass. Good luck OP.

Zeusthemoose · 07/06/2020 09:38

I think its nice Op although I think upstairs may feel a bit small and the lounge seems a bit pokey but you can certainly improve it. Garden could definitely improved. Looking at the sold nearby houses this house seems to be fairly reasonably priced but I'd be putting in a cheeky offer considering it's been on the market since October.

Barkingfuckingdogs · 07/06/2020 09:44

No concept, i think you're dead right. There's ways and means of commenting on a property without being over the top about it. The flip side is though that you're getting some very frank feedback on why your house might not be selling, unpalatable as it is.

atilathehut · 07/06/2020 10:01

Carolebaskins
They don't call it Creepy Crawley for morning. I wouldn't move there personally. Have a look at Horsham. 
Its called Creepy Crawley, because people are lazy....
Moving south you have Buggars (Burgess) Hill, Poohaven (newhaven or peacehaven, depending on how you are feeling).
Bumbridge (Tunbridge) Wells
You could say Whore-sham.

Nothing to do with the actual areas, just rhyming, or clever wordplay

Never heard any of the others except creepy Crawley. Crawley is renowned locally as the least appealing place to live hence the pricing - that's why it's called creepy Crawley

Redhill is ok, not as great as everyone seems to think, the town centre is dead apart from drunks loitering!

This made me lol as is so true. The residential areas are much much nicer than Crawley though

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/06/2020 10:43

I like it and don’t mind the red kitchen. Study/utility looks weird though.

Crawley is ok, esp that part. Easy to get to coast and London.

Redhill is a strange place ....

VivienScott · 07/06/2020 10:57

I’d be cautious of Crawley also. It’s known as Creepy Crawley locally, there’s an unpleasant undertone there and as previously mentioned, lots of jobs rely on the airport.

Spacepocket · 07/06/2020 11:00

House yes.
Crawley no if you have other options.

MMN123 · 07/06/2020 11:20

This is a nice option www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-92194838.html

The fourth bedroom has been made into a wardrobe but the three bedrooms are a good size. Nice layout with the utility etc. Very practical for a family!

RedTravellingSocks · 07/06/2020 11:40

I used to live on Churchill Road (the house MNN123 linked to). It's not Purley really, but it is convenient for transport. Parking is a PITA though and people use the road as a (completely pointless) cut through off the main road. It's the grottier bit of South Croydon though, tbh, although the greasy spoon at the end of the road is fab Grin

£475k is a lot of money for the area.

oohnicevase · 07/06/2020 12:22

I've just driven through Pound Hill , it's actually really pretty and lovely .. Crawley is very well equipped and has loads to do .

DENMAN03 · 07/06/2020 12:34

I live in Crawley. As with all towns there are good and bad areas. Horsham is just the same but has a nicer image. The same house will also cost you £50k more minimise. The train into London is also rubbish from Horsham.
Crawley has some great restaurants and shops. Lovely parks and is not as bad as people like to make out. Houses are great value for the area and commute to London in 40mins

LakieLady · 07/06/2020 12:44

The garden's awful, the kitchen's pretty grim and badly laid out, wtf is that mirrored wall and ... it's in Crawley.

There must surely be nicer places than Crawley within the same travel time from London. East Grinstead, Oxted, Lingfield, Edenbridge are all far nicer imo.

I also wouldn't buy in Crawley at the moment because a lot of people who live there work in travel/airline related roles. If that all goes down the Swannee, that will affect house prices.

Sadbridetobe · 07/06/2020 12:47

I think it’s perfect for a family of four! Around the size we’re looking for.

TARSCOUT · 07/06/2020 12:53

It's a generic relatively new build house, nothing out the ordinary. Why would you even need opinions?

whichteaareyou · 07/06/2020 12:53

Wow it's amazing! I am so jealous, we're in Bristol and the house prices are astronomical!

PoppyAnnie · 07/06/2020 13:48

Love the house. It's really great. I think many people would be very happy there.

I wouldn't likely personally buy it b/c I once compromised on a garden and it was a huge mistake and while I love our home, it's the thing I can't change, so while I got the "perfect" location, I feel like we don't have a garden and right now that's especially hard.

Having said that none of my neighbours have a big/bigger garden either and they love that - surrounded by families with 2-3 kids and they absolutely think what we have is enough and they are more likely to go out hiking, to beach etc., weekends than play in the garden. Different things are priorities for different people.

PoppyAnnie · 07/06/2020 13:50

Looked at it again, if you could spend a few thousand, you may make that garden more livable for a family. Clear up the back, prune, maybe even take up some of the slab stones. Leaving enough for a dining area and some nice outdoor seating but giving yourself a bit more garden space for little ones.

Zenithbear · 07/06/2020 13:59

Just about big enough for a family of four but personally I would want an extra bathroom. Hate the kitchen cupboards but door to garden is fine. Garden is a decent size, easy maintenance plenty you can add to it with pots etc. I'm not sure why enormous gardens are needed as they take up so much of your time for how much they are actually used.

atilathehut · 07/06/2020 14:15

Denmark - the difference between Crawley and Horsham or Crawley and almost any of the surrounding towns ie Redhill, Reigate, Dorking is that Crawley is deemed a predominately working class area and has probably more LA or ex-LA than private homes. The council estates that were built there are the size of a small village - and there are many of them. The others are predominately middle class with mainly private homes and small areas of LA homes. Crawley was built to service Gatwick and the town reflects that. That's why the houses are so much cheaper than anywhere else around. So it totally depends on whether you want - the bigger house in the less aspirational area or the smaller house in the posher area. That said it,s less appealing from the point of view of a Surrey/Sussex resident. It's probably still highly desirable versus many places in the U.K. !

Alsohuman · 07/06/2020 15:26

If I could work out that you were the buyer that did this I'd refuse to sell to you on principle

No you wouldn’t. You’d be the same as the rest of us and take an acceptable offer because you wanted to sell your house.

Babyroobs · 07/06/2020 16:18

Seems an amazing price for a house that size in London unless it's a bad area or something.
